In the Gospel, Jesus says: This is how it is with the reign of God. A man scatters seed on the ground. He goes to bed and gets up day after day. Through it all the seed sprouts and grows without his knowing how it happens. Through your almsgiving you are sowing seeds that grow far greater than you know. Your gift placed in the St. Vincent de Paul poor box (located at the rear of the church in the main aisle) brings Christ s love and compassion to the poor. EUCHARISTIC ADORATION It is only by means of the Eucharist that we are able to live the heroic virtues of Christianity, such as charity to pardon one s enemies, the love which enables us to suffer, the capacity to give one s life for another; chastity at all times of life in all situations; patience in the face of suffering and the apparent silence of God in human history or our very own existence. Therefore always strive to be Eucharistic souls so as to be authentic Christians. John Paul II COME AND SIT WITH JESUS! IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO BECOME AN ADORER PLEASE CALL JENNIFER @ 636-940-9858 OR JAN 636-947-4654. IF YOU WOULD LIKE ONE OF THESE HOURS: TUESDAY 1PM and 2AM, WEDNESDAY 11AM & 4AM. PLEASE GIVE US A CALL. THANK YOU!

Eleventh Sunday in Ordinary Time June 17, 2018 IS THIS YOUR DAD TOO? A happy Father s Day to all you guys! We are most grateful for your loving kindness, not only for your role in bringing us to life but also for how you have shaped our lives! What you will find below is a eulogy given for a man named Stanley Shylanski, the father of our parishioner Ann Tansey. The eulogy below was given by his son, Mark, Ann s brother. As I heard it (we celebrated Stanley s funeral here at St. Cletus), I was most touched by Mark s words, but, as I heard it, it struck me how it could be a tribute to any father with the changing of a few details so I asked Mark for a copy of his words. May this praise of a son for his father remind us all of the praise we all owe to our dads: Over the years, I m sure many folks have become familiar with my father s signature accessory: his Pearl Harbor Survivor baseball cap. But from my perspective, my Dad wore many hats. Some of his hats could be seen quite plainly: Husband, father. collector, traveler, gardener, proud veteran. But some of his hats could not be seen with a quick glance, but were eventually visible to those lucky enough to spend time with Stanley J. Shylanski. When I think about the wonderful family life my siblings and I enjoyed growing up, I d say the most important "invisible hat he may have worn was the hat of a teacher. By quiet example, my father taught us about the most important values in life. Not that Dad was always quiet. Enthusiastic debates at the dinner table were boisterous enough to make a new visitor uneasy. When my father sought to express a strongly felt idea, his voice could be loud, and yet I d say my Dad had a gentle, warm demeanor. Watching him interact with other people, I could see he had a rule: he would treat everyone he met with respect. And I also saw that he could mix pride and humility in perfect proportion. My father taught us by example of how to balance hard work and enjoyment of life. He didn t just stop to smell the roses but worked the soil to grow the roses in his beautiful rose garden. The stories my father s younger days filled us with wonder. He delivered telegrams by bicycle. He raised rabbits. He played stick ball in the streets of the old Polish neighborhood. He hopped trains to save money when traveling to and from his work at a Civilian Conservation Corp camp in Iowa. Dad was a real witness to history, living through the deprivations of the Great Depression and fighting the war in the jungles of the South Pacific. When my siblings and I were growing up, we saw that Dad could play the role of a photographer, a carpenter, a fisherman, or a plumber. He could use a butane torch and solder to join copper pipes. He could do woodworking and automobile maintenance. He could clean a crappie or shuck a raw oyster. We saw him in the role of a reverent parishioner of Sts. John and James Church, and he made it clear he wanted us to really strive to excel in school. He loved to collect stamps, coins and postcards. He loved to dance at wedding receptions. Nearly every summer he would pack a bunch of us in the car and explore large swaths of North America, from Atlantic to Pacific and from Tijuana to Quebec. So the lessons my father taught through his actions included how to pursue adventure and have fun. But when Dad was wearing the invisible hat of a teacher, the clearest lesson he taught us was how to live a life based upon a foundation of love for and dedication to family. To sum it up, my father played many different roles, and he did so with grace, dignity and style. So if anyone should ask us, "how come he always wore that same hat?, we really ought to make it clear: We will remember Stanley J. Shylanski as a man who wore many hats. Again hearty congratulations to all you dads as well as to all of you men who played the role of father to us!! A BLAST FROM THE PAST, A PAST FATHER S DAY: A KISS, A CROSS AND A HUG : The following is a Father s Day reflection from the folks at Our Sunday Visitor Publications: As I race off to work each morning, I do my best to say proper goodbyes to each member of my family. My five year old son, Geoffrey has named my daily morning ritual as a "Kiss, Cross, and a Hug." I kiss each of my three children, bless them by tracing the cross on each of their foreheads, and give them each a hug. If I forget one part of this trio, Geoff gets very upset. In addition, he too must return these loving gestures, which is the most special part of the moment for me (he routinely changes the location of where he applies the cross--on an ear, an eye, etc.). As I celebrate Father's Day this year, I am particularly blessed to know that my young children are beginning to understand daily Catholic moments. It is the greatest Father's Day gift I can receive. If they haven't done so already, invite your families to create their own "Kiss, Cross, and a Hug" moments. They will be so glad they did. This reflection is from the June 2009 issue of Teaching Catholic Kids, an online series entitled by Our Sunday Visitor Publications. Teaching Catholic Kids is described by OSV as Online help for parents, catechists, and teachers every month from Our Sunday Visitor. You'll find (free) PDF downloads, teacher advice, articles and more! To link to Teaching Catholic Kids, use the OSV web address: www.teachingcatholickids.com.

Eleventh Sunday in Ordinary Time June 17, 2018 A GOLDEN FRONTIER TRIP TO NEW ORLEANS AND CAJUN COUNTRY WITH FR. JIM BENZ My priest-friend Father Dennis Port and I are planning to travel with Golden Frontier (more formally called Catholic Shrine Pilgrimage ) this September 8-14 to New Orleans and surrounding areas. Golden Frontier s website www.goldenfrontier.org describes this trip as follows: New Orleans and Cajun Country are two centers on the seven-day trip via coach. Two nights and days in New Orleans shows the heart of Creole country. Creole food, and a history that shaped westward expansion are all parts of one of the most colorful cities in America. We ll spend two nights in this beautiful city. Lafayette is the heart of Acadiana and Cajun Country. Our visits here begin from a time when the Acadians arrived from present day Canada with their Catholic faith and French heritage. Today the heritage lives on through their music and lifestyle. Two nights each in New Orleans and Lafayette, plus Vicksburg, entrance fees, all meals, except two lunches are included. One of the places that Father Port and I plan to visit in New Orleans in our free time is the World War 2 Museum, described as New Orleans #1 attraction. You can learn at Its website: www.nationalww2museum.org. What a truly impressive place about a truly impressive undertaking: the US effort in helping to win the Second World War! If you are interested, I have some brochures about this trip, or you can call Golden Frontier at (618) 234-1445. I am sure that we will have a great time! (This museum s website is quite truly impressive itself!) St. Patrick Center is in need of flip flops in all women's sizes for the women in the agency's night program.
