Wednesday Shared Supper 5:15 pm You CAN memorize scripture. Do you know your address without pulling out your driver s license? Case closed. In Matthew 4, Jesus used Scripture to stand firm against temptation in the desert. He didn t pull out his pocket Torah and leaf through it until he found the verses he needed. He had them hidden away in his mind and heart, ready to use. The Word of God is powerful: during dark times, the Holy Spirit will call out verses to bring you wisdom, strength, and hope. But you have to hide them away first. Here is your: Memorizing Tip of the Month First Letter Prompt This is a great and super effective technique to use, especially with school age kids. Print only the first letter of each word on an index card with spaces between the words. Those first letters are the clues to the next words. After using this to recall the verse, you will be amazed at how quickly you will be able to say the verse from memory without the first letter prompts. Thank you to everyone who makes our meal possible! Cost remains $4 per plate, children 2 and under eat free, and the family maximum is $15.* Find the full monthly menu right here and the weekly menu in your Sunday bulletin. RSVP or Standing RSVP is required but no one is ever turned away so by all means, bring a guest! *Family maximum applies to immediate family only: head of households and dependent minor children. On the Menu this Month 3-7 Meatloaf, Mashed Potatoes, Succotash, Fresh Salad & Fruit Bar, Brownie with Vanilla Bean Ice Cream 3-14 Baked Potato & Garden Fresh Super Salad & Fruit Bar, Banana Pudding 3-21 Pizza Bake, Italian Side Salad Bar, Garlic Bread, Dessert 3-28 Chili, Chips, & Cheese, Pizza, or Mac & Cheese, Side Salad & Toppings Bar, Banoffe Parfaits Page 2

Upcoming.... Men of Faith Join us Friday, March 9th at 7:30am at Connie s Kitchen, Seymour. Contact Thomas Hill at 607-6689 or thomashill@att.net for more information. SCRAPBOOKING Join us for scrapbooking, Friday, March 2, 6:00 10:00 pm in the Fellowship Hall. Soul Sisters Soul Sisters will meet Tuesday, March 6, 6:30 pm, at the home of Kathleen Buttolph, 552 Man O War Drive. Kathleen, Brenda Cunningham, and Margaret Remp are hosting. Please bring a salad or dessert. Shelby Johnson will be the guest speaker. She will give information on Sex Trafficking: who it happens to, how it happens, and provide you with simple resources to help address the problem. Sex Trafficking happens globally, including in the US, and in our state. In 2011 the state of TN collected data and found that, of our 96 counties, 85 reported at least one case of sex trafficking; 21 counties reported 16 or more cases of minor (those under the age of 18) sex trafficking; including SEVIER County. Please bring an old purse filled with the following sample size items: hand lotion, hand sanitizer, shampoo/ conditioner, toothpaste/toothbrush, soap/washcloth, chapstick/lip balm, nail clippers/emery boards, comb/hairbrush, feminine hygiene items, Kleenex/tissue, wet wipes, denture cleaner, etc. The following donations are also needed: women's pant size 2-6; women's winter clothing; reliable car; KARM gift cards, or gift cards for food, gas stations, Wal-Mart, etc. Our speaker will take all donations to Community Coalition Against Human Trafficking (CCAHT) the agency that serves East TN. Coffee with Pastor Paul - Sunday, March 11. If you are new to our church and would like to learn about our ministries and how to get more involved, or if you simply have questions, please come to Coffee with the Pastor at 10:00 am in the choir room. This will also be a great time to get to meet others who are newcomers to Seymour United Methodist. You can RSVP by emailing office@seymourumc.org. However, no reservation is required. All are welcome. Spring Family Hike & Picnic Lunch March 17 th Spruce Flats Falls is a lesser-known but beautiful waterfall located in the Tremont section of the Great Smoky Mountains. The short hike to the falls is well worth the effort and suitable for most abilities and ages. Perfect for families with kids! The somewhat little-known trail is only a 2. miles roundtrip but does includes some steep, rocky sections, particularly the final descent to Spruce Flats Falls itself. Because of its location and low visibility there is rarely much traffic. The Hill family will be leading a hike to the falls on March 17 th (icky weather date will be the 24 th ). Families will meet at the church at 9 am and travel to the trail head. At the falls there will be a short time of prayer, devotion, picture-taking and then we will eat a brown bagged lunch. For more details and to let them know you are going, see Thomas or Rebekah Hill. Page 3
