Already Gone by Ken Ham & Britt Beemer Statistics Results Sample: n=1000, 20-30 years of age, balanced by populations and gender; all grew up regularly going to church but seldom or never go today. 95% attended church in elementary/middle school 55% attended church in HS 11% attended church in college. 90% were lost in middle/hs with 40% leaving in elem/middle 39.8% doubted the truth of bible studies in middle school; 43.7% doubted in hs, and 10.6% doubted in college. Sunday school is actually more likely to be detrimental to the spiritual and moral health of our children. Those attending Sunday school are more likely 1. to not believe in bible stories 2. doubt the bible b/c written by men 3. doubt bible b/s translated incorrectly 4. defend abortion 5. defend premarital sex 6. accept that gay marriages and abortion should be legal 7. believe that god used evolution to change one kind of animal into another 8. double bible b/c of secular dates of billions of years 9. questions the days of creation as 24 hours 10. view the church as hypocritical 11. to become anti-church 12. to believe the good people don t need church Less than 2/5 believes the bible stories to be true and accurate: 2/5 says the bible contains error; 38% believe; 44% don t; 18% don t know. Two Groups Group 1: Point to scientific objections and bible reliability. The bible is irrelevant and the people of the church are too. Group 2: Object to hypocrisy, legalism, and self-righteousness. The bible is relevant to them, but the church is not. At least half those that leave church, haven t left to faith rather the fellowship. 47% of the sample believes that church is relevant 4/5 instructors in school taught them that the earth was obviously millions of years old. 3/5 taught that life evolved from lower forms of life to more complex forms. 3/10 left hs believing the bible is less true 4/5 felt their college professors had an ungodly influence on the students and imposed their philosophy and moral agenda. 1/3 admitted something they were taught at an academic institution caused them to doubt the bible. Why they don t believe in the bible 1. written by men 24% 2. not translated correctly 18% 3. Contradicts self 15% 4. Science show the world is old 14% 5. Bible has errors 11% 6. So much suffering in the world 7% 7. Christian don t live by the bible 4% 8. Evolution proves the bible is wrong 4% Willow Creek research shows that progressive worship, dynamic small groups and seeker-sensitive (watered down) sermons didn t keep members, but rather teaching absolute authority of the bible did. General Info Since 1969, 1500 churches in England closed. Regular churchgoers amount to 6.3% of the total population. Average Sunday congregation is 84. Top 10 Reasons for not attending church: 1.
