Archdiocesan Pastoral Youth Council Application Office of Lifelong Formation 3525 S Lake Park Avenue Chicago, IL 60652 Dear Colleague in Ministry with Youth, One of the goals of Catholic Youth Ministry stated in Renewing the Vision: A Framework for Catholic Youth Ministry, (USCC 1997) is to invite young people to responsible participation in the life, mission and work of the Faith community. We are proud to tell you that the Archdiocese of Chicago is reportedly the only diocese in the United States that has youth representation on the Archdiocesan Pastoral Council (APC) which is an advisory board to Archbishop Blase J. Cupich. The APC is comprised of adults from parishes and two youth delegates. The candidate may be entering their Freshman, Sophomore, or Junior year of high school in the Fall of 2016. YOUTH REPRESENTATIVE ON APYC In order to expand the feedback and communication base for the delegates, the Office for Lifelong Formation is in the process of selecting high school youth, three from each of the six Vicariates and three from the Polish community, to serve as representatives on the Archdiocesan Pastoral Youth Council (APYC). The Youth Council will gather information from peers in their parish/school/youth group settings regarding a specific topic designated by Archbishop Blase J. Cupich. This feedback and these insights are then shared with the youth delegates at the quarterly meetings. It is very important that the young people applying are willing and able to make a consistent commitment to a quarterly meeting (November, January, February, May) held at different locations throughout the Archdiocese. It is also of utmost importance that the Vicariate APYC representatives be willing to gather and organize feedback prior to the meetings. Our 2016-17 Meeting Dates are November 6, January 8, February 26 and May 21. The date for the final luncheon with the cardinal will be announced shortly. YOUTH DELEGATE ON APC Any APYC Youth Representative may consider applying for the position of APC Youth Delegate. For 2016-17 our youth delegate spots have already been filled. The Youth Delegate is responsible for: Developing the agenda for the quarterly meetings with the Vicariate Representatives on the APYC Presenting the feedback at the APC meetings with Archbishop Blase J. Cupich Attending the APC meetings as well as the APYC meetings. Communicating and being in contact with the reps, sending them reminders for upcoming meetings, etc. The APC meetings are held in September (overnight), November, January, March and May.
