Center, St. Peter and his wife are in front, his reflecting astonished joy mixed with the grief of denying Jesus three times...st. James and St. John (with his arms raised) sons of Salome and Zebedee stand behind her in awe. Standing middle right, is Mary of Jerusalem. She was an early disciple, possibly a widow of means. Her face reflects courage and firm faith. After escaping prison, St Peter went directly to her home. Her son, John Mark stands below and to St Paul for the mission to Antioch. Standing far right is Zaccheus and the Samaritan woman, listening and deeply alive to Jesus s presence. They represent all who have engaged, questioned and believed. Kneeling lower right is St Mary of Bethany, who anointed Jesus with the costly nard at the home of Simon the Pharisee. Next is her brother Lazaarus, and her sister St Martha, who recognizes Jesus as the messiah, the Christ: Yes, Lord, I believe that you are the Messiah, the Son of God, the one coming into the world. Augustine Spotlight July 22, 2018, Sixteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time The Service Committee met recently to plan for the upcoming year. We will focus on one service opportunity each month starting in September. In the meantime, there are ongoing service opportunities that we d like to bring to your attention. Let s start closest to home at church at Mass. There are six liturgical ministries, and every one of them has need for more volunteers. Altar Servers. Being an altar server is not just for kids. You probably noticed that there are many adults who assist with Mass at the altar (even I 60 years old serve when needed). Altar Servers should be able to maintain a reverent and attentive disposition during the Mass. Music. Music is integral to our beautiful liturgies. Singing or instrumental talent is needed, as is time for practice. Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion. You don t have to be a saint to be a communion minister. You should have reverence for the Eucharist in giving the Body and Blood of Christ to your brothers and sisters. Lectors. One should be familiar with Sacred Scripture, pray with scripture regularly, be comfortable speaking before a group, and maintain proper reverence for the Holy Mass.. Altar Guild. The Altar Guild assists with maintaining and beautifying the physical aspects of the church for the liturgy. Guild members change and launder altar linen and albs and arrange flowers and adornments for liturgical seasons. Hospitality. Although hospitality ministers help with the collections, our goal is to have one or two at each entrance to the church greeting people as they come to Mass and as they leave. We want to make St. Augustine s as welcoming a faith community as is possible. Ideally, every parishioner would be a hospitality minister regularly. Each of these ministries has its own special training, usually a theological component to better understand the ministry and its role in the liturgy and a practical component to know what to do. Please see the liturgical minister information on the web page (http://www.catholicgators.org/ministries). You re at Mass anyway. Please prayerfully consider taking part in a deeper and more helpful way through these lay ministries. It will change your spiritual life. You can serve in more than one ministry. To all of our new parishioners student and non-student consider this your invitation to get involved. There someone asked you! Paul A. Gulig, Chair Service Committee and Parish Council 3

Catholic Student Center and Young Adult Ministries Questions about God, your soul, Catholic teachings, becoming Catholic, preparing to receive the sacraments -- especially the questions you feel you should already know or that no one knows! To get the questions flowing, the RCIA will be showing episodes from Bishop Barron's renowned series -- such as the Catholicism Series, Pivotal Players, and his newest on the Mass -- starting July 1st at 4:00pm in the newly redecorated parish lounge every Sunday until August. Then we will be hosting a Q&A. There will be coffee and doughnuts. All are welcome. 5
