We welcome, serve, and educate.

Dear Parishioners, If God is willing to give us what we ask for, why do we have to keep on asking? It is not about God. There is no reluctance on the part of God. It is about us and what we ask for. I am sure that some of our prayers are out of mere politeness, like the prayers for the poor or the lonely or the unemployed or those who suffer from war or violence. Often these prayers do not come from the heart because these tragedies do not really affect us. They are just polite expressions. For our prayers to be answered, it has to come from our heart. Often, we do not really want everything we ask for. We want only part of our prayers, that which will make us comfortable. We want only part of what we ask for because we want to be in control of our lives. Faith means entrusting ourselves completely into the hands of God. And when we have that kind of faith our prayers will change and they will be from the heart. Yours sincerely, Fr. Jose Shaji, Pastor. CARE FOR OUR COMMON HOME -Pope Francis The first book of Sacred Scripture, dating back some 4000 years, is devoted not to the Ten Commandments (or any commandments, for that matter), but to the work of a loving God in drawing out of blackness and void an extraordinary universe, full of plants and animals and people. And He saw it was good. Against the background of this beautiful story in Genesis, Pope Francis has sent an urgent call to people of all religious beliefs and no religious beliefs to open their eyes and acknowledge what is happening to their extraordinary universe. Laudato Si, the Pope s encyclical on the Care of Our Common Home, opens the dialogue on pollution and climate change, loss of biodiversity, issues of available water, and the decline in the quality of human life. Laudato Si is not simply a scientific paper, although it is full of irrefutable scientific facts. It is a challenge to each of us individually to take responsibility for our immediate environment, yes, but no less for the lives of people in many parts of the world who are in jeopardy because of decisions and practices over which they have no control. Here at St. Anselm Parish we are joining with parishes throughout the Archdiocese in addressing these issues. A Parish Green Team is being formed to raise awareness and initiate eco-friendly practices by reducing waste, recycling, and lowering energy consumption. We invite you to join us in whatever way you can join the committee, send in your suggestions, pray for Our Common Creation. The Green Team committee will meet on October 11 at 10 am, and the parish will celebrate Mass for the Care of Creation at 10 am on this Sunday, October 16 th. The urgent challenge to protect our common home includes a concern to bring the whole human family together to seek a sustainable and integral development, for we know that things can change. The Creator does not abandon us Humanity still has the ability to work together in building our common home. Pope Francis, Laudato Si (13)
