THE EPISTLE (For the Twenty-First Sunday after Pentecost) O Lord, how magnified are Thy works. In wisdom hast Thou made them all. Bless the Lord, O my soul. The Reading from the Epistle of St. Paul to the Galatians. (2:16-20) Brethren, you know that a man is not justified by works of the Law but through faith in Jesus Christ. Even we have believed in Christ Jesus, in order to be justified by faith in Christ, and not by works of the Law, because by works of the Law shall no one be justified. But if, in our endeavor to be justified in Christ, we ourselves were found to be sinners, is Christ then an agent of sin? Certainly not! But if I build up again those things which I tore down, then I prove myself a transgressor. For I through the Law died to the Law, that I might live to God. I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ Who lives in me; and the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, Who loved me and gave Himself for me. THE GOSPEL (For the Fifth Sunday of Luke) The Reading from the Holy Gospel according to St. Luke. (16:19-31) The Lord said, There was a rich man, who was clothed in purple and fine linen and who feasted sumptuously every day. And at his gate lay a poor man named Lazarus, full of sores, who desired to be fed with what fell from the rich man s table; moreover the dogs came and licked his sores. The poor man died and was carried by the angels to Abraham s bosom. The rich man also died and was buried; and in Hades, being in torment, he lifted up his eyes, and saw Abraham far off and Lazarus in his bosom. And he called out, Father Abraham, have mercy upon me, and send Lazarus to dip the end of his finger in water and cool my tongue; for I am in anguish in this flame. But Abraham said, Son, remember that you in your lifetime received your good things, and Lazarus in like manner evil things; but now he is comforted here, and you are in anguish. And besides all this, between us and you a great chasm has been fixed, in order that those who would pass from here to you may not be able, and none may cross from there to us. And he said, Then I beg you, father, to send him to my father s house, for I have five brothers, so that he may warn them, lest they also come into this place of torment. But Abraham said, They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them. And he said, No, father Abraham; but if someone goes to them from the dead, they will repent. He said to him, If they do not hear Moses and the prophets, neither will they be convinced if someone should rise from the dead. DONATIONS Salma Isaac: For the health of Father George, Kh. George by THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 20, DAYLIGHT SAVING TIME Ends in the wee hours of next Sunday, November 2nd, 2014. Before retiring this coming Saturday night, set your clocks BACK one hour. Holy Bread Bread has special significance in our life. It is a symbol of food and of the work which is necessary to earn it. God told Adam, "In the sweat of your face you shall eat bread" (Gen. 3:19). There is religious symbolism in bread too. Our Lord Jesus Christ called himself "the bread of life" (Jn. 6:35); he also said, "If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever" (Jn. 6:51). And finally He blessed bread which by its content is very close to a human body to be transcended into His Body during the Great Eucharistic Mystery: "Jesus took bread, blessed and broke it and gave it to the disciples, and said, "Take, eat; this is My body" (Mt. 26:26). Made up of multitude of grains, bread embodies the Church One Church made up of multitude of its members.

ARCHDIOCESE DUES FOR 2014 Please make sure to pay your family dues for the year 2014 (It is $ 35.00/Baptized Soul). Our Church has to pay for the one s who consider themselves members but don't pay. Please make it a priority to pay before the end of November, 2014. Thank you & God bless you all General Parish Meeting On SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 30, 2014, there will be a General Parish Meeting and the Election of New Officers following The Divine Liturgy. A Lunch will be provided in the Church Hall. All St. George Parishioners Please contact Fr. George or any member of the Nomination Committee (Sub-Deacon Michael Sifuentes, Salma Isaac, Dr. Hassan Salloum & Allen Borschow) if you want to nominate anyone for the new parish council members to serve for the year 2015-2016. Deadline for nomination is Thursday, November 20, 2014. FUTURE PARISH COUNCIL MEMBERS As leaders of the community, parish council members are on the front lines and are able to have a long-term effect on their parish and community. To serve on the parish council is a ministry. Mission of the Parish Council The mission of the parish Council is to keep, practice and proclaim the Orthodox Christian Faith pure and undefiled. We believe that in Orthodoxy we have the fullness of the Truth, then we have the great responsibility to share it with everyone. Choosing Suitable Candidates for the Parish Council The best parish council members are those who are Church-oriented and Christ-centered. To be a good council member, one must be active in the worship and sacramental life of the Church. The best candidates are easy to findthey are in the Church. The Priest is head of the Parish, and is charged with the guidance of the total Parish program. The parish council consists of the Priest, and the elected lay members, and is referred to as Parish Council. This is because one of the identifying traits of the Orthodox Church is that we are conciliar-decisions are made in council. Setting An Example for the Parish The duties of a parish council member include regular attendance at divine services and participation in the sacramental life of the Church,...thereby setting an example for the parish. A Commitment to Serve In the Oath of Office, the parish council members affirm that they...will fulfill faithfully and sincerely the duties and the obligations required of a member of the Parish Council No contract is signed, but a promise is made which rests on the shared commitment of all council members to serve the Church, which is the Body of Christ on earth. We are His hands, feet, eyes and more. To serve on the council is a ministry and a mission. We are called to use the gifts with which we have been blessed to carry out the work of the Church.
