I would like to thank all of you that entered. 1st place was awarded to Mike Ray, 2nd place went to Wendy Banks and 3 rd place went to Charles Braswell. Congratulation to all the winners for their great chili entries it was a lot of fun. We celebrated the American Legion's 91st Birthday with a ceremony and a Birthday Cake. Congratulation to Hughie Cooper he received his 50-year Pin and 50 year Certificate. Thanks for your contribution. We are now serving Lunch's Monday - Friday from 10:30am to 1:30pm at the Post. Thanks to Jennie our daytime bartender. Please check at the Post for the great menu and help support her efforts. Page 2 Post News Volume 4, Issue 3 Financial Report: We can finally report an outstanding monthly financial picture with the March results, un-audited of course. On the revenue side, we show a monthly increase, over January and February in nearly every category. Total sales were up over $6,000 from February alone. Our Food sales continue to rise, thanks to the efforts from Lorie to build the business on Wednesday and Friday nights and Jennie for starting and growing the weekday lunches. Not only are they delicious, but they also offer our members a great value and they make us money. What a terrific concept! I would also like to thank Debbie for working on our increased number of Open Sundays. That business is continuing to grow and we can see the increased revenue in the bar and gaming areas. On the expense side, we have also done a great job. Gail has been working hard to control our costs. Nearly every category in March was equal to or below our previous 6-month average. The lone exception was Insurance and that is attributable to our negotiation of a new Property & Casualty policy. The new policy actually gives us increased protection and costs $3,000 less than the 2009 coverage. However, the March premium is higher than normal because our Worker s Compensation portion is paid up front for the year. Even with these positive figures, we need to continue to come up with new ideas to increase our revenues and maintain our financial health. Please let any officer know of your ideas that can help us achieve this. We will listen to any idea no matter how strange it may be. Page 3 Post News Volume 4, Issue 3 Hi Everyone, This year seems to be going so quickly. First, I will talk about the Easter program. It surely was a success. The children obviously had a great time and there were no tears! Yeah! We had three juniors who helped this year, Caitland Platt and Susan and Sarah Keller. Caitland was some bunny who loves us and the Keller sisters helped put extra eggs in the little ones baskets, they found missing eggs and brought in our signs. We thank you young ladies for all your help and support. Also helping were, Rose Neiten, Shirley Brown, Karen Todd, Gloria Willaert and my co-chair Joan Hause. Thanks ladies, without you it would not have been done. The ladies mentioned above, along with Beatie Cummings did the stuffing of the eggs. We will have nominations for officers at the April meeting and elections will be in May. Then we will have a joint installation meeting in June with a memorial service following for our members who have passed on this past year. We will also have a service along with the VFW on Memorial Day at five cemeteries. Please watch for these ceremonies, come, and observe. As always, we are always proud of all we do. If you cannot make it to the meeting before the summer please try to attend beginning again in September. Your input is very important to us. Amen Dear Members: I want to begin by mentioning that the next S.A.L. regular meeting will be on Monday, May 24 th and the agenda will include voting on officer candidates for the 2010-2011 officer terms. The vote on nominated candidates will follow open floor nominations. Thanks to all squadron officers for their commitment to serve and I look forward to working with the next group of officers in the new term. The June S.A.L. regular meeting will be on Monday, June 28 th and all regular meetings convene at 7:00 pm. I hope that everyone has enjoyed the S.A.L. Steak Dinners so far this year. The weather is nice and the S.A.L. will continue to use the outdoor grill to host its monthly dinners for members. The next two dinners will be on Saturday, May 1 st and Saturday, June 5 th from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. The S.A.L. Steak Dinner includes a New York Strip accompanied with a baked potato and a generous salad bar for $12.00 per person. Page 4 Post News Volume 4, Issue 2 As many of you know, the "organizations" take a bit of a summer recess following elections, but the activity continues. In spite of the many options available in the spring and summer months, it is a good time to stay engaged at the post. The patio is always open, the horseshoe pits will be buzzing, and there is a rumored fire pit in the works. The Second Wind Trio, whom you may remember from New Year's Eve, will be playing following the SAL steak dinner on Saturday, May 1st. They play a wide variety of covers from the 60's right up to today. There will be good music to listen to and great dancing. That day is an Open Post day and the public, (especially, potential members) are invited. The following day, Sunday, May 2nd, we will have a casual golf outing, Mohawk Mayhem, at Mohawk Hills Golf Course. Trophies, prizes and just good times await you. It looks like we will have over 35 players for a 4-person scramble format. The cost is $32.00 each for 18 holes with cart and tee off is at 10:00am. Nothing planned yet, but a trip to the horse track, more beer pong, and perhaps an Indians game may be lurking over the horizon. In the meantime, join us at the Post # 155 for summertime of fun, camaraderie, and an adult beverage or two this summer, and keep your eyes peeled for other activities coming your way. *******BREAKING NEWS******* Saturday, May 15th has been set for the 1st Annual Mo Harrelson "all you can eat" Pancake Breakfast, (which includes an order of sausage), to benefit the scholarship fund. Mo has been a teacher, coach, and mentor of youths in our area for decades and currently serves on the Scholarship Committee. Plan to join us for a worthy cause. The hours are 8:00am - 10:30am and the cost is $5.00. Our goal is to serve 100 meals, which will cover about 10% of the scholarships awarded last year. For those of you who do not know, Jennie is now serving lunch from 10:30am - 1:30pm, Monday through Friday. Big ol' burgers, tenderloins, appetizers, quesadillas, shrimp baskets and great prices. Thanks to her for initiating this effort and volunteering to make the Post a little more convenient for the members. See you around the old watering hole and do not forget the elections coming up on Saturday, May 8th. Page 5 S.A.L. Membership Update: Post News Volume 4, Issue 2 Here is an update on the 2010 SAL Membership. As of today, we have 222 members of the SAL. Our goal was set at 224 members for 2010. We are at 99% of our goal! I wish to thank all of our members for their loyalty and their active participation in our events. The end of the membership period for 2010 is May 15, 2010. If you or someone you know has not paid their 2010 dues, there is still time to do so. We will begin taking membership renewals and new member applications for the 2011 year around July 1, 2011. Sign up early and you are an "Early Bird" which means a nice meal for you in the fall.
