We hope that you are uplifted by the Gospel at our worship service. We invite you to join us every Sunday. Please sign our guestbook in the entry. Preparation for Worship: Read Psalm 119:129-136 (Lutheran Service Book or Pew Bible) Opening Hymn: 867 Let Children Hear the Mighty Deeds LSB 867 SERVICE OF THE WORD (Worship Supplement, p. 12) Invocation We invoke ( call upon ) the name of the one true God Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. P In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. C Amen. 1

Confession and Absolution We come before our Holy God recognizing that we are sinful and daily need His forgiveness. P We have come into the presence of God, who created us to love and serve Him as His dear children. But we have disobeyed Him and deserve only His wrath and punishment. Therefore, let us confess our sins to Him and plead for His mercy. C Merciful Father in heaven, I am altogether sinful from birth. In countless ways I have sinned against You and do not deserve to be called Your child. But trusting in Jesus, my Savior, I pray: Have mercy upon me according to Your unfailing love. Cleanse me from my sin, and take away my guilt. P God our heavenly Father, has forgiven all your sins. By the perfect life and innocent death of our Lord Jesus Christ, He has removed your guilt forever. Through faith in Him, which was created in you by the Holy Spirit, you are His own dear child. May God give you strength to live according to His will. C Amen. Kyrie Latin for O Lord. We approach our Lord with a cry for help in all the needs of our earthly life. W.S. p. 13 Lord have mercy on us. Christ have mercy on us. Lord have mercy on us. Gloria in Excelsis Latin for Glory to God in the highest. W.S. p. 13 Glory to God, we give You thanks and praise; Of heav nly joy and peace on earth we sing. We worship You, to You our hearts we raise, Lord God, almighty Father, heav nly King. Lord Jesus Christ, the Father s only Son, You bore for us the load of this world s sin. O Lamb of God, Your glorious vict ry won, Receive our prayer, grant us Your peace within. Alone, O Christ, You only are the Lord, At God s right hand in majesty most high: Who with the Spirit worshiped and adored, With all the heav nly host we glorify. 2

Prayer of the Day P We pray: Lord Jesus Christ, You have entrusted to Your people the task of teaching all nations. Enlighten with the wisdom of Your Holy Spirit those who teach and those who learn that the joyous truth of the Gospel may be known in every generation. We pray this through Jesus Christ, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. C Amen. First Reading Deuteronomy 6:1-9 (NKJV) 1 "Now this is the commandment, and these are the statutes and judgments which the LORD your God has commanded to teach you, that you may observe them in the land which you are crossing over to possess, 2 "that you may fear the LORD your God, to keep all His statutes and His commandments which I command you, you and your son and your grandson, all the days of your life, and that your days may be prolonged. 3 "Therefore hear, O Israel, and be careful to observe it, that it may be well with you, and that you may multiply greatly as the LORD God of your fathers has promised you -- 'a land flowing with milk and honey.' 4 " Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one! 5 "You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength. 6 " And these words which I command you today shall be in your heart. 7 "You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up. 8 "You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. 9 "You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates. Gospel Reading P The Gospel reading is from Luke 18:15-17. C Sanctify us by Your truth, O LORD. Your Word is truth! Luke 18:15-17 (NIV) 15 People were also bringing babies to Jesus to have him touch them. When the disciples saw this, they rebuked them. 16 But Jesus called the children to him and said, "Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. 17 I tell you the truth, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it." 3

P Blessed are they who hear the Word of God and keep it! Alleluia and Verse When God speaks to us in His Word it is natural for us to respond. We sing Allelujah! meaning, Praise the Lord! Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia! These words are written that we may believe That Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God. Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia! Apostles' Creed We boldly confess what we believe. W.S. p. 15 C I believe in God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth. And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried. He descended into hell. The third day He rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty. From there He will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Christian Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen. Hymn of the Day: 862 Oh, Blest the House LSB 862 4

Sermon: God Wants the Best for Our Children & Our Parents Text: Ephesians 6:1-4 (NIV) Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. 2 "Honor your father and mother"-- which is the first commandment with a promise-- 3 "that it may go well with you and that you may enjoy long life on the earth." 4 Fathers, do not exasperate your children; instead, bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord. Offertory W.S. p. 16 Create in me a clean heart, O God, And renew a right spirit within me. Cast me not away from Your presence, Take not Your Holy Spirit from me. Restore to me the joy of Your salvation. Uphold with Your Spirit free. Offering We offer our gifts to the Lord, remembering that He has first given to us that we might have to give to Him. Sermon Hymn: 866 Lord Jesus Christ, the Children s Friend LSB 866 Prayer of the Church / Prayer Requests We bring our prayers to God. CLC News Immanuel Lutheran, Mankato MN, has called Pastor David Schaller, of Redeemer Lutheran, Dowagiac, MI, to serve as co-pastor. <> Kayla Wendt of Immanuel Lutheran, Mankato, MN has accepted the congregation s call to serve part-time teaching Choir, PE, and Spanish. Hurricane Irma Update Immanuel Lutheran - Winter Haven, FL From Pastor Sam Rodebaugh: As you know, Hurricane Irma is headed for Florida/Georgia, affecting a number of CLC congregations. There is some concern and stress among our members in Winter Haven, but everyone is well prepared. Jess and I decided to evacuate north to Logansville, GA, where we're staying with Pastor Gantt and family [Sam s wife Jess is pregnant with twins]. The rest of the congregation is staying put. The church council found it necessary to cancel services this Sunday for our members' safety. We'd like to request your prayers on behalf of our congregation, as the storm should be hitting us Sunday morning during your congregations' worship services. We take heart knowing that He Who said, "Peace, be still," to the wind and the waves is in control of this storm too. In Christ, Pastor Sam Rodebaugh Please keep this congregation, and Pastor Luke s brother, Neil, and his family in your prayers. Neil is the principal at our CLC Christian Day School at Immanuel. I will keep you posted if opportunities arise to help our CLC members affected by Hurricane Irma. In Him, Pastor Luke KINSHIP Sponsors Update - We thank the Lord for moving the members of the CLC to fill the requests for KINSHIP sponsors so quickly! Your generous and swift response to the needs of the orphans and students of our overseas brothers and sisters is truly heartwarming and inspiring! All of the sponsorship requests that have been made at this time have been FILLED. Praise the Lord for His goodness! In the service of our Savior, The KINSHIP Committee 7
