Catholica Summer Program Forming Young Men into Confident, Catholic Gentlemen

Program Overview Catholica Summer Program is an immersion program in Rome, Italy for boys aged 14-17. With a campus just next to St. Peter s Basilica, Catholica students explore the wonders of Western civilization for a period of three weeks, deepening their knowledge and love for the Catholic faith. In 2018 we re operating one session: June 8th - June 26th. The session is limited to twenty-five boys and the cost is $4995.00. Registration is now open and an early bird discount of $500.00 is available. Dates - Explore Rome - Catholica Summer Program is a real immersion in the Eternal City. From the underground crypts and catacombs of the Eternal City to the beautiful forums, churches and basilicas, our boys get to see it all. June 8 th - June 26 th, 2018 Cost - $4995.00 - Great Classes - Every morning Dr. Mark Clark teaches the boys Church History and Latin. The Church History course examines the stories of the Roman martyrs - saints such as Peter, Paul and Sebastian. In Latin class the boys learn to speak and comprehend in Latin through proper immersion. The program also features a course in "survival Italian." - Daily Mass - Every day will begin with morning Mass in St. Peter s Basilica. Catholica program chaplains celebrate both the ordinary and extraordinary forms of the Mass for the boys. - Awesome Sports and Day Trips - We play a lot of sports at Catholica Summer Program, such as soccer, frisbee, basketball and swimming. We also visit beautiful places outside of Rome, such as Assisi, Orvieto, Castel Gandolfo and Ostia Antica!

Catholica Summer Program offers a chaperoned group flight to and from Rome, Italy. The flight is direct on Alitalia from JFK to FCO (Rome). What if my son does not fly with the group? Simply provide the arrival and departure information and Catholica staff will meet your son at arrivals in Rome, FCO and see him off at departures at Rome, FCO. Is ProRome Tours insured? Also, is there travel insurance available? Yes. We are fully insured with the International Advantage Commercial Insurance Policy through ACE American Insurance Company. And yes, travel insurance can be purchased through ProRome Tours. Can you tell me a little bit about the Catholica staff s qualifications? Is Italy safe? What happens if there is a threat or an attack of any sort? Italy is safe. The American and Italian authorities are doing an excellent job of keeping Italians and their visitors safe and comfortable. Catholica remains in close contact with the American embassy in Rome, who issues safety and security messages for Italy on their website found here: https://it.usembassy.gov/u-s-citizenservices/security-and-travel-information/. In the case of an emergency, we will first ensure that all of our students are safe and able to communicate immediately with their parents. We will then follow the instructions of the local Italian and American authorities and make an informed decision on how to proceed. Each staff member is a dedicated Catholic with a Bachelor of Arts from a Catholic institution. Each staff member is CPR and AED certified. Each staff member has undergone background checks and is Virtus certified. Are classes designed for students of a certain skill-level? I am worried that my son will not be able to keep up. Classes are designed so that each student can learn at his own level. There is no homework or exams. Will my son be safe at Catholica Summer Program? At Catholica Summer Program, safety is our #1 priority. With a 1:5 staff to student ratio, our policy is 24/7 adult supervision. The only exception is campus, where our students can spend time together without adult supervision.

From the Director Our goal is to help young men grow into confident Catholic gentlemen, capable of understanding and communicating their Faith with others. Every day our boys are immersed in the history of the Church. They hear the stories of the martyrs and imagine the trials that they endured. They visit their homes and venerate their relics - the arrows that pierced Sebastian - the grill that burnt Lawrence - the nail that pierced Christ. These things become real to our boys, and the Christian calling of self-sacrifice becomes visible and even desirable to them. Rome is a portal, a time-machine through which our boys become more Catholic by experiencing the truth in person. All of this is complemented by lots of fun. At Catholica we play a variety of sports such as soccer, Frisbee and basketball. We also go hiking, swimming and biking. Top this off with awesome day trips throughout Italy, and Catholica truly is a once-in-alifetime experience. In 2014 Joe Long completed a graduate degree in Church History at the Pontifical University of the Holy Cross in Rome. He then decided to dedicate himself to educating Catholics through travel. As the executive director of ProRome, Joe directs a variety of summer programs and pilgrimages throughout Europe. Rachel Long has a BA in Theology from Ave Maria University and helps to take care of the many logistical details of the program. Joe and Rachel were married in December of 2016. Since then they have been living in both Italy and the United States. From the Academic Dean Catholica Summer Program combines an exciting Catholic curriculum with a program of activities that inspires the hearts and minds of the young men taking part. Dr. Mark J. Clark received his Ph.D. in Medieval History from Columbia University in 2002. Currently the Associate Dean of Undergraduate Studies at Catholic University of America, Dr. Clark is also a professor of Theology, History and Latin at Catholic University. Dr. Clark comes to Rome every summer with his wife and family in order to teach young men in the history and language of the Faith. Living in the heart of Rome, only a few short steps from St. Peter s Square, the boys begin each day with Mass in St. Peter s Basilica. They then enjoy breakfast followed by two hours of intensive instruction in Latin and Church History. This is my chance to teach the boys everything that I know about the great martyrs and history of the early Church. After lunch the day really begins! Joe and his staff lead the boys through every corner Rome, pagan as well as Christian, combining real fun with a hands-on experience of the treasures of Christianity. There is truly nothing like it. Come and see for yourself! Owing to the resounding success of this past year s inaugural program, Catholica will offer two sessions during the summer of 2018, each nearly three weeks long.
