THE GOOD NEWS SEASIDE UCC NEWSLETTER NOVEMBER 2017 PASTORAL SEARCH UPDATE Hi, Seaside. I'm going to utilize this space to keep you updated on our Pastoral search. Even though this is relatively new, we do have exciting news to share with you. As you may already know, the Rev. Don Whitcomb will be with us from October 29th through November 26th. He prepared a special sermon for us Sunday, October 29th, and we encourage you to listen to the podcast if you missed it. He has a brand new four-sermon series for November that will coincide with Stewardship Season. In December, we are fortunate enough to have secured the Pastoral services of Rev. Elaine Schoepf. Rev. Elaine comes to us with years of service to the Disciples of Christ in churches from California to Hawai i. She is aware of our current transitional state and is looking forward to worship and fellowship with us through Advent. Additionally, the Search Committee has had its first meeting and is hard at work on developing our church profile so that we can actively begin the search for a permanent pastor. WORDS FROM OUR MODERATOR, DAYNA KOSINSKI Happy November, Seaside. Big changes are upon us! I hope everyone enjoyed the last two weeks with the musical performances from Megan and Carlos. Hopefully we will be filling our Worship Leader role in the very near future. In the meantime, please be sure to send your thanks to Victor and Lynn, who have so graciously stepped up in our time of need to lead us. I provided an update on the Pastoral search on the front page, which I'm sure you have read already, so feel free to reach out if you have any additional questions about the two incoming Pastors. Things are changing, Seaside, and things are going to continue to change. This is an opportunity for us to grow and move forward. I ask that everyone be open minded to new things and understand that anything different is not meant to confuse, but to help strengthen the heart of Seaside. Lastly, we'll talk more about this on upcoming Sundays, but it s that time of year again... Stewardship Season! I have jokingly nicknamed our stewardship drive this year "Seaside, Alive!" I'll be telling you more about that, and you'll hear from other members of the congregation in the weeks to come. As always, please prayerfully consider what you are able to give to support our ministry here at Seaside. See you all on Sunday, Dayna WE LOVE MAKING NEW FRIENDS! @SeasideUCC @SeasideUCC Seaside Community United Church of Christ Seaside UCC SeasideCommunityUCC

CLASSES, OUTREACH & NEWS COMMUNITY S CHILD WARM UP COLLECTION Community s Child needs your help to keep South Bay families warm this winter. They are seeking donations of clean, gently used/ new blankets, jackets, sweaters, scarves, caps, mittens and gloves. We will receive your donations at Seaside UCC on Sunday, November 5th. If you need to bring your items to the church office before that date, please call ahead to (310) 375-4441 to make those arrangements or drop them off during office hours: Tuesday-Friday 10am-2pm Thank you for remembering these families. THANKSGIVING COLLECTION Our annual collecting of nonperishable food and grocery gift cards will occur on Sunday, November 12, 2017. The outreach committee will then supplement those donations with funds from our budget line item to provide Thanksgiving meals for needy families in the South Bay. Our collective gifts will support the efforts of Love INC, Harbor Interfaith Service (HIS) and Toberman Neighborhood Center. If you and your family like the idea of actually purchasing food for these meals here is a list of nonperishable items that have been requested by Harbor Interfaith: We encourage you to fill a box with these items and The Outreach Team will provide a turkey for each box made! Turned out, that was the night of the third World Series game between the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Houston Astros, played in Houston. We wanted to accommodate those ladies who are baseball fans or avid Dodger fans who would prefer to spend the evening watching the game. Turns out, everyone was fine on postponing our meeting until November 10th. And, we will not be meeting on the fourth Friday of November or the fourth Friday of December. We take a break every year to accommodate the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays. We will resume our gatherings on January 26, 2018. In the meantime, we will have our meeting on November 10, 2017 to discuss how finding meaning in our lives might be more fulfilling than just the pursuit of personal happiness,. This is such a compelling topic we hope all of you are able to come and share your thoughts. It should be a fascinating evening. A reminder email will be sent out to you all the Monday before the gathering.
