News & Notes September 16, 2018 Welcome! We re glad you re here today. If you are new to Messiah, please stop by the Welcome Center in the Gathering Space for your gift. Good Stuff to Know: The Welcome Center is located right outside the Worship Center. Feel free to ask the volunteer any questions you may have or pick up some information on Messiah. Restrooms are on the south side of the Gathering Space in the coat rack area. If you would like to receive Holy Communion and are unable to approach the Altar area, please talk to an usher before the service. Difficulty Hearing? We have hearing impaired assistance available at the Welcome Center. For Those with Children: Busy Bags are filled with quiet activities for your children to use during the service. They can be found in the entryway of the Gathering Space. Children s Sermon: During the 8:45 and 11:00 a.m. services there is a Children s Sermon where all children are invited to come up. If your child doesn t want to come up alone, please feel free to come up and sit with them or sit in the front pew. Family Restroom: A family restroom is located by the coat racks across from the women s restroom. The Nursery is available for parents and their children three years of age and younger and is located in the hallway across from the rear of the Sanctuary. Sunday School: Sunday School is available downstairs for ages 3 through 5 th Grade. If you would like directions, stop by the Welcome Center. Middle School and Senior High Youth: Meets across the street at Luther Hall during the education hour. Blue Cards: Whether you are a long-time member or a first-time visitor, please be sure to fill out one of the blue cards found in this folder. Please give the card to the ushers/acolytes during the offering. Gluten Free Wafers: So those with gluten allergies or Celiac Disease can fully partake in communion, we have individual wrapped gluten free wafers. If you would like a gluten free wafer, ask the person distributing the wafers when you approach. Disclaimer: The wafers are certified gluten free and are individually sealed, however, some gluten may be on the wrappers due to being in the proximity of gluten wafers. ( 1 )

WEDNESDAY EVENING MEALS On the menu for the week is: tater tot hotdish, corn, bread, fresh veggies, fruit, dessert and beverage. Meals are served 4:45 6 PM. MESSIAH BOOK CLUB will meet on Thursday, September 20 at 2:00 in the Cross Roads. The book selection is THE LIFE WE BURY by Allen Eskin. Copies are available at your local library. Come join us. Please join us on Sunday, September 23rd, in the Crossroads area for cake following all services. MESSIAH SENIORS WEDNESDAY MORNING BIBLE STUDY resumes this Wednesday, September 19 at 9:30 a.m. NEW! FRIDAY AM BIBLE STUDY BEGINS THIS WEEK with a study of John's Gospel. We will meet 9:30-10:45 in the east end of the Blue Room. Why is this Gospel so different from the rest? Come join us and find out! Led by Denise Rust, 763 221-1466. CARE GIVERS SUPPORT We are exploring the possibility of starting a Care Givers Support Group and are looking for two different types of people! 1) Are you a care giver who could benefit from this? 2) Do you have experience in care giving and would be willing to help lead? If you can answer yes to either question, please call the church office and talk to either JoElla or Heather. CORE (Cancer Support and Prayer Shawl Group) meeting, Friday, September 21 at am in the Fireside room at church. All are welcome - come to learn how to knit or crochet a Prayer Shawl and support in prayer those dealing with cancer. Questions contact Linda Schwanbeck or Dayle Boyce. Attendance: Sunday: 422; Wednesday: 21 ( 3 ) BAZAAR PROCEEDS have been selected. They are: Habitat for Humanity, Global Health Ministries, LINC, carpet fund, playground replacement fund, and the Audio Video Upgrade fund. See the October Newsletter for details on these and other projects partially funded. XYZ: Our September event will be on Sat. 9/29. A cruise on Lake Minnetonka on the historic Steamer Minnehaha for a fall colors tour. An hour cruise to see the lake sites from a vintage steamboat. We will be including in the day a lunch at our own expense. Check the XYZ location near the elevator for sign up and cost. Signup deadline 9/22.

GOLFERS AND FOOT GOLFERS: Please join us at Messiah's 20th annual golf scramble on September 23rd starting at 2:00. Sign up sheets are on the bulletin board by the elevators. Sign up as a foursome or as individual golfers, sign up as foot golfers, or sign up to be a hole sponsor. Not a golfer? Join us for the banquet and silent auction! Tee times will be posted Sunday morning, September 23rd. If you have any questions, please contact Cindy at 651-402-0399. MESSIAH SENIORS WILL BE MEETING ON WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 3, 1:00 P.M. AT Elva Besel s home (7735 Silver Lake Road, #218, Mounds View). XYZ-Rub an elephant skull, play the mating game, ooh-and over mussels, all eyes on starry skies. Monday, Oct 22 you will have the opportunity to do all of these things at the new Bell Museum. Because of the popularity of this event, I will need "I intend to come" list by Sunday, Oct 1. We leave at 12:45, return 4:00. Price is $30. It includes a guided tour, a visit to planetarium and transportation. TRUNK OR TREAT THIS YEAR WILL BE ON Sunday, October 28. Support the stores who are already selling their Halloween candy and purchase some for us to hand out. Donations can be left in the church office! COME AND BE INSPIRED! A special viewing of the St. John s Heritage Bible will be held at Benedictine Health Center (1101 Black Oak Drive, New Brighton) on the following Sundays: September 23, September 30 and October 7, from 1-4 PM. The Bible is comprised of seven volumes and has over 160 illuminations by Master Scribe, Donald Jackson. It took over 15 years to complete and is the only hand-written Bible in English.
