As we have done in the past, the Board of Outreach is asking the congregation to nominate programs and projects for funding as part of our outreach efforts. We are asking applicants to consider asking for funds not only for institutions but also for outreach (service) projects in which the entire congregation can participate. The application form is available in your Friday Update and paper copies are available in the narthex. We are particularly interested in nominations that are supported by more than one Binkley member, so please be sure and let us know if more than one person is supporting the nomination. Applications must be submitted by Friday, September 9th, but we urge you to get them in earlier so that we can start our work as soon as possible.
BINKLEY BAPTIST CHURCH PRESENTS Cultivating the Faithful Child: At Home and in Church August 27, 2016 Dr. Karen-Marie Yust Children need a brighter light than the glimmer of their own candles or the glow from a few family candles to find their way with God in this world. Supporting the spiritual lives of children takes teamwork! At Cultivating the Faithful Child, parents and educators can explore ways to help children grow in their lives of faith, both in church classrooms and at home. This day-long event includes a morning session for parents, a catered lunch, with time for conversation and resource-sharing, as well as an afternoon session for Christian educators. Come for the entire day or just for the morning or afternoon. Please register at office@binkleychurch.org and indicate the session(s) you will attend, and if you would like to join us for lunch ($10.00 per person). Otherwise, the event is free. 9:30 am Coffee & Light Refreshments 10-noon Event Schedule Cultivating Faith: Families and Spiritual Formation (designed for parents) Every day, contemporary families face major challenges as they try to live faithfully in an intercultural, multi-religious, secular world. ABOUT TODAY S MUSIC When folks talk about the Yard Sale they talk about the astounding amount of stuff that is sold, the tremendous amount of money that is raised, and, of course, the Holy Chaos, but the most striking thing that people talk about is COMMUNITY. The sense of togetherness, of oneness, of community that is generated by the Binkley/Barbee s Yard Sale is palpable and contagious. As the yard sale date has drawn closer the Music Ministry has been thinking about how we could, in some small way, mirror that sense of community and togetherness in our music on this the Sunday after the Yard Sale. We knew that if there is was any day of the year for a Come one come all Summer Choir this would be it, but we wanted to include something new and different, and something that would involve more of our beloved community. Therefore with joy and thanksgiving we present our first Yard Sale Band.
