You led us to the true faith through them. O Most Bountiful Lord, glory to You! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ How the Son proceeds from the Father our words cannot express; but having two natures, He was born of a woman. We do not reject His icon when we behold it, but in faith we venerate and honor it. And the Church professes it as true belief when she honors the icon of Christ s Incarnation.

THE SEVENTH ECUMENICAL COUNCIL Held in Nicea, Asia Minor in 787 under Empress Irene, with 367 Bishops in a endance. It centered around the use of icons in the Church and the controversy between the iconoclasts and iconophiles. The Iconoclasts were suspicious of religious art; they demanded that the Church rid itself of such art and that it be destroyed or broken (as the term iconoclast implies). THE SEVENTH ECUMENICAL COUNCIL (Con nued) The iconophiles believed that icons served to preserve the doctrinal teachings of the Church; they considered icons to be man s dynamic way of expressing the divine through art and beauty. The Iconoclast controversy was a form of Monophysi sm: distrust and downgrading of the human side. We define that the holy icons, whether in color, mosaic, or some other material, should be exhibited in the holy churches of God, on the sacred vessels and liturgical vestments, on the walls, furnishings, and in houses and along the roads, namely the icons of our Lord God and Savior Jesus Christ, that of our Lady Theotokos, those of the venerable angels and those of saintly people. Whenever these representa ons are contemplated, they will cause those who look at them to commemorate and love their prototype. We define also that they should be kissed and that they are an object of venera on and honor, but not real worship, which is reserved for HIM Who is the subject of our faith and is proper for the divine nature, which is in effect transmi ed to the prototype; he who venerates the icon, venerated in it the reality for which it stands.

Aspiring filmmakers Mel Funn (Mel Brooks), Marty Eggs and Dom Bell go to a financially troubled studio with an idea for a silent movie. In an effort to make the movie more marketable, they attempt to recruit a number of big name stars to appear, while the studio s creditors attempt to thwart them. The film contains only one word of dialogue, spoken by an unlikely source. Don t miss Silent Movie!

Pill Bottle Collection Status This new philanthropic project is off to a great start. Over 175 bottles have been collected for the safe distribution of medicines in developing countries. Thank you for all your efforts. To improve the success of the program, please keep these things in mind: Bottles must be empty, clean and unlabeled. Include a quarter for each bottle to help with the shipping costs. There will be a canister next to the collection basket for your spare change. Every little bit helps. Glass bottles will no longer be accepted, due to the high cost of shipping them. Please recycle glass bottles locally. If you have questions, please see Carol Telehany. Brought to you by the Ladies Altar Society THANK YOU! Thank you all for creating such a terrific Summer Toy Basket for our Spring Raffle. SQUEAKY CLEAN is our next basket. Each parish family is asked to donate a bar of luxury soap. Craft fairs offer numerous kinds of homemade soaps as well as different area shops. We ll be collecting for this basket until Thanksgiving.
