Large Group Series at a Glance for Kid-O-Deo About this Series: Everyone, even the biggest and strongest person in the world, gets scared sometimes. If we re going to get scared, what can we do about it? The good news is, Jesus knows what it s like to be scared. He went through sadness, hurts, and even huge storms. With His help, every one of us can be brave. Memory Verse: Psalm 138:3- When I called out to you, you answered me. You made me strong and brave. Weekly Overview: Lesson: Topic: Big Idea: Lesson 1: August 4/5 Why we re brave Gospel story, John 18-21 I can be brave because of Jesus. Lesson 2: August 11/12 Facing my fear Jesus calms the storm, Luke 8:22-25 Jesus is in control. : Jesus love Jesus accepts a woman, John 4 Jesus loves me just the way I am. Lesson 4: August 25/26 What if I fail? Jesus and Peter, John 13, 18, 21 Jesus loves me, even if I ve done something wrong. Lesson 5: September 1/2 When I feel sad Jesus and Lazarus, John 11 Jesus understands when I feel sad. 2

Series at a Glance for Kid-O-Deo (continued) Lesson 1: Why we re brave Being brave doesn t mean not being afraid. It means making the right choice, even when you feel afraid. The greatest example of this is Jesus! God wanted him to do something super scary, and Jesus chose to be brave. The great news is, because of what Jesus did, we can be brave, too! Lesson 2: Facing my fear Jesus disciples were feeling afraid. They were trapped in a boat, on the sea, in the middle of a huge storm. As lightning flashed and thunder rolled, they saw Jesus. He was sleeping! When they woke him up, Jesus showed them why he wasn t afraid: he was in control, even in a huge storm! We can be brave, because Jesus is still in control today. : Jesus love Jesus didn t act like everyone else. He went places and talked with people that others would stay away from. Even when people made fun of him, or said bad things about him, Jesus did his best to be a friend to everyone. He wanted them to know that he loved every person on earth. Knowing how much Jesus loves you is a great reason to be brave! Lesson 4: What if I fail? It s not fun to make a mistake. You might feel sad, or like you want to give up. How does Jesus feel when you make a mistake? You might be surprised. This week, we ll see how Jesus love can help us be brave enough to try again, even when we fail. Lesson 5: When I feel sad What do we do when sad things happen? When someone gets sick, or even dies? This week, we ll hear what Jesus did when one of his friends got sick, and think about how we can be brave, even when we feel sad. 3

Opening Song 3:00 (Roll when directed) Kid-O-Deo Theme Song Video (Auto advance) Kid-O-Deo Slide Introduction and Rules 2:00 Hey everyone, welcome to Kid-O-Deo! My name is! We are going to have a great time learning, singing, and even going Kid-O-Whampus together! Before we can do all that, though, we need to all learn three rules. When we do these three things, it helps everyone have fun! Rule #1: When I m talking you are listening! Everyone put on your listening ears, and on the count of three, let s practice listening! Rule #2: Keep your hands and feet to yourself! Do a little clap and place your hands in your lap! Rule #3: Stay in your spot! Let s take our special glue sticks and put some glue on our spot to help us stay in the right place! Great job, Kid-Os! There s one more super important thing I want you to know. Value 1:00 God made you so wonderful. You are so special to him, because he made you and loves you! Can you repeat this after me? I can be, I CAN BE, who God made me to be. WHO GOD MADE ME TO BE. Worship 3:00 5

God is so amazing, and we get to follow and learn more about him every day. Let s stand and sing about how amazing our God is! Song 1: My God is Number One (Auto advance) Series Title Slide: Bible Adventure 5:00 I love singing with you! You can sit down, but get ready for an adventure. Everyone feels afraid sometimes. Even the biggest and strongest people in the world can feel afraid. Maybe you re scared of bats, or of being in the dark. To help us find out how to face our fears, Rocky is going on an adventure. Let s see where he is today! Rocky Forest Video #1 The video will freeze on the final frame, with a Bible Adventure sign on screen. Rocky is exploring in a forest! It looks like fun to discover new things in the forest! The sign he found says it s time for us to go on an adventure, too! It s time for a Bible Adventure! Bible Adventure Jingle Do This: Show kids the Bible. Kid-Os, I have a super important question for you. Are the stories in the Bible real or pretend? REAL! That s right, these stories actually happened. Today, we get to see how much Jesus cares about every person on earth. Do This: Get the Bible storybook out and sit down in the chair. This story you are going to hear comes from the Bible, but we use this storybook because the pictures help us imagine what it might have looked like back when the 6

Bible was written. The pictures you see in here are the same as the ones on the screen. Let s get started! Do This: Have kids help you turn the pages on the screen with an exaggerated arm wave. Picture 1: Jesus and his disciples traveling One day, while Jesus and his friends were traveling, they stopped in a city in a land called Samaria. The people in this land didn t like people from Jesus country. They fought and argued and were very mean to each other. When they stopped, Jesus sat by a well, and his friends went to get some food. Picture 2: A woman comes to the well. When a woman came to the well to get water, Jesus asked her for a drink. She was surprised, because most people from Jesus homeland wouldn t even talk to her. Jesus kept on talking to her, and learning about her. Picture 3: The woman and Jesus talk. Jesus knew that this woman had done some wrong things, but when he told her about them, he wasn t angry. He still loved and cared about her. She asked Jesus who he was, and he said he was the one God sent to show people that he loves them. Picture 4: The woman tells others about Jesus. When she realized who Jesus was, the woman ran to tell everyone in the town about him! She said He told me everything I ve ever done! She invited everyone to meet Jesus, and a lot of them believed that he was the savior, God s son. Series Title Slide: Great job listening, Kid-Os. Jesus accepted people, even if they had done wrong things, even if they weren t the most important or popular. He loves and accepts all of us, too, no matter what. That s one great reason we can be brave. Let s adventure a little further into the forest with Rocky, and see what s next! 7

Rocky Forest Video #2 The video will freeze on the final frame, with a Memory Verse sign on screen. It s time for our memory verse! Memory Verse 3:00 Memory Verse Jingle (Auto advance Memory Verse) Psalm 138:3- When I called out to you, you answered me. You made me strong and brave. Do This: Read the verse from the screen. This is a great verse to remember when you feel afraid. We can call out to God, and he will always listen to us! He may not take away the thing we are afraid of, but He will help us be brave. Let s practice saying that verse together! Do This: Practice the verse with the Kid-Os 2-3 times. Begin with your quiet voices, then do it in your normal voices, and finish with your super-duper loud voices! Know This: The verse with actions goes like this: Psalm 138:3- When I called out to you (hands cupped around mouth), you answered me (hands cupped around ears). You made me strong (flex arms) and brave (arm/fist across chest). Great job practicing your Memory Verse, Kid-Os! Worship 3:00 Jesus showed us God s love by being a friend to everyone. God really is super amazing and wonderful! That s what this song is about. Let s sing it together! Song 2: Super Wonderful 8

(Auto advance) Series Title Slide: Application 5:00 Do This: Make sure the Mystery Box is on stage before the Application begins. You could bring it out now, or leave it on stage the whole time if you think it will get kids interested in what s inside without distracting them. I love singing and praising God with you. You can sit back down! Now it s time for the mystery box! Inside is something interesting, something unexpected, something mysterious! Let s find out what it is. Do This: Take a Sorry board out of the box. I love this game! It s called Sorry. Have you ever played it before? It s fun to play games with people! Playing a game is a great way to make someone feel good, and be their friend, like Jesus did. Kid-Os, the most important thing I want you to know today is that Jesus loves you, no matter what. Even if other people have been mean to you, or you are feeling lonely, Jesus cares about you. Even if you ve done something you know is wrong, Jesus loves you. Nothing can stop him from loving you, and he wants you to share that love with other people, too! I think these cards can help us think of ways to share Jesus love. Let s see what they say. Do This: Draw card #1. This card has a picture on it! It looks like we have to decide whether these kids are being good friend and accepting others, or whether they aren t being kind and rejecting others. If you think the kids are being good friends, give me a thumbs up! If you think they aren t being good friends, give me a thumbs down. Kids playing on a playground Do This: Read the card. Know This: The card reads: These kids are playing on the playground, and see a kid sitting on a bench. They invite him to play with them! 9

Were those kids being good friends? Thumbs up! Yes! They invited him to play with them, which is a great way to make someone feel like a friend. Let s read the next card. Kids playing a game Do This: Read the card. Know This: The card reads: Jimmy and Lola are playing their favorite game, and their little sister Lily wants to play, too. They tell her she can t play, just because they don t want her to. Were they being good friends to their sister? No, that s a thumbs down. It doesn t feel very good to be told you can t play with someone. If we can include someone, that s usually a good choice. There s one more card for us to read! Kid-O-Deo kids Do This: Read the card. Know This: The card reads: These kids try to welcome others who come to Kid-O-Deo, and ask if they want to color or play with them! Are these kids being good friends? Yes! It can be really great to have someone ask to play with you, especially if you haven t been somewhere before. All of you can be good friends to other kids here in Kid-O-Deo, too! Kid-Os, you can do something really amazing by being a friend to someone. One of the best ways to be a good friend is to accept others. Let them play a game with you, or even just ask them what their name is, if you haven t met before. One great way for us to be like Jesus is by remembering that God loves and cares about everyone, so we can, too! Great job listening! Let s see where Rocky is on his adventure! Rocky Forest Video #3 The video will freeze on the final frame, with a Big Idea sign on screen. That must mean it s time to learn the Big Idea! 10

Big Idea 2:00 Big Idea Jingle Get on your feet, and get ready to learn with Ranger Ron! Know This: The Big Idea is, Jesus loves me just the way I am. Big Idea Video (Auto advance) Series Title Slide: Thanks Ranger Ron! That is so great to remember! Jesus loves me just the way I am. Jesus cares about you, me, and every person we meet! That reminds me, I wonder how Rocky is doing on his adventure? Let s see! Rocky Forest Video #4 The video will freeze on the final frame, with a Kid-O-Whampus sign on screen. Kid-O-Whampus 2:00 Rocky made it through the forest! Let s celebrate with him by going Kid-O- Whampus! Kid-O-Whampus: Animal Moves (Auto-Advance) Let s Pray. 11

Prayer 2:00 That was a lot of fun! You can all sit down. Since God loves us so much, he loves listening to us, too! You can talk to God anytime, and anywhere, and he ll hear you. We call talking to God prayer. You can pray when you feel afraid, when you feel awesome, and any other time, too! God cares about you all the time. Here in Kid-O-Deo we fold our hands in our laps and close our eyes, to help us only think about the words we are saying to God. If you want, you can repeat the words of this prayer after me. Dear God, we love you. Thank you for loving us. Help us to love others like Jesus does. Amen. Kid-O-Deo Slide I have loved spending time with you, Kid-Os. Now it s time for you to go back to your classrooms where you will get into groups with your leader and other Kid-Os, have a snack, and do a fun activity. See you later! 12
