There will be a slideshow featuring a photo of each of our young graduates. Please submit a digital photo to aburkhow@messiah-lutheran if you would like your graduate included. Names may be submitted for the bulletin to JoElla or Heather in the office. CHURCH WORKER SCHOLARSHIP Each year our Stewardship Ministry Team makes available a scholarship program, approved in 1996 by our congregation, which provides financial assistance to members and former members who are preparing for a career in church work. Applicants must be enrolled as a full-time student in a Lutheran school of higher education beyond high school. The purpose of this fund is to assist in affirming an individual s vocational decision by giving aid and encouragement to such students. In order to apply for this scholarship an individual must each year submit an application to our Stewardship Ministry Team Leader (Bill Kath). All applications will be reviewed and awarded by our Financial Aid Committee composed of the Stewardship Team Leader, The Senior Pastor, the Leadership Council chair and an at-large member designated by the Leadership Council. The necessary application can be obtained in the church office. Applications for the 2017 2018 school year should be submitted by May 15th, 2017. 2

Because the 1st and 2nd phases are so crucial to the over - all performance of the organ, we are trying to raise enough funds to allow the work to be done at the same time, also saving on cost and down-time for the organ. We currently have $45,000 in the repair fund. The two phases together are around $63,000. Please continue to keep the repair fund in your giving so we can raise the remaining funds to begin the repairs in early 2018. 5

Highlighting Messiah s Many Volunteer Ministries Q: What is 9 acres, has 21 flower beds, and over 75 trees and shrubs to mow around? A: Messiah s property! No.. This isn t a joke! Messiah is blessed to have an extensive property with beautiful trees and plants. When you drive up to Messiah, do you ever stop and wonder how it is so beautifully maintained? We have a host of volunteers that help us with that! Our lawn mowing team is gearing up to start with their summer task to take turns with the weekly lawn mowing duties. Of our 9 acres, over 2 of those acres need to be mowed. When I asked Curt Flor why he thinks his mowing team likes to volunteer, he said, We have fun, fancy equipment that is big, red, and shiny! Who wouldn t want to play with a faster than average lawn mower that can go up to 4.7mph with power steering and locking rear differential, right? In addition to our wonderful lawn mowers, we have a group of landscapers that we rely upon. Our volunteers are each assigned an area around our grounds that they are responsible for. They trim, weed, and design the area if they wish. Each area involves approximately an hour a month during gardening season to maintain. Although we are just out of snow season, there is another group of volunteers that help us in the winter: our snow shoveling team! Our custodial staff works Monday Friday and does a wonderful job of clearing our snow during the week, but what happens when we get some fluffy inches on the weekend? In swoops our snow shoveling team to save the day! There is approximately 1,000 feet of sidewalk that gets cleared every time it snows. This group of volunteers wakes up early to make sure that those sidewalks are cleared so everyone can safely walk into church. God has truly blessed Messiah with the beauty of our property and the volunteers to maintain it. If you are interested in helping on any of the above teams, please contact Curt Flor who will be able to assign you a task. In his hand are the depths of the earth, and the mountain peaks belong to him. The sea is his, for he made it, and his hands formed the dry land. Psalm 95:4-5 6

In the words of Martin Luther, He richly and daily provides me with all that I need to support this body and life. In response to God s great love for us and His bountiful gifts to us, we, in faith, share with others the wealth that has been given to us. God uses us as conduits of His love and His goodness so that we can help those in need. 9

Curt Flor s 30th Anniversary For 30 years Messiah has been blessed with the service and talents of Curt Flor. On Sunday, June 4th, Messiah Leadership Council and staff invite you to help celebrate Curt with a cake reception following all three services. Thank you Curt for your faithful service to Messiah and may we continue to be blessed with many more years with your servant heart and talent. Donations Needed to help Olivia Schwerr Many of you have probably heard that one of our young Messiah members, 6-year-old Olivia Schwerr, has been fighting cancer. In addition to praying for her regularly, there is also another way that we at Messiah can help. On June 24 th Olivia is going to be having a carnival benefit at the Schwerr s house. There will be lots of fun things to do, including pony rides, a bounce house, games, cotton candy, police cars/firetrucks, a silent auction, and more. The family is anticipating a big crowd! One of the ways that we can help is by donating cases of bottled water and bottled Gatorade to be served at the carnival benefit. If you are interested in helping/donating bottled water/gatorade, you can drop some off in the wooden donation bins in the hallway outside the offices. Thanks for your support! GOT STUFF?? WE NEED LOTS OF STUFF!!! The Annual Garage Sale will be held Wednesday, May 17 through Sunday, May 21. Please drop off your used but in good condition items beginning Friday, May 5. The proceeds will go to the Senior Youth and the Organ Repair Fund. This is a churchwide activity since it will benefit both groups here at church. All hands on deck as we really need a lot of volunteers to help with set up/sort/price/sell/clean up. Kay Knutson has the volunteer sheets. If you could donate even an hour or two during this sale, or offer some help in any area, it would be GREATLY APPRECIATED! If you have questions, contact Kay Knutson in the church office. 11

WOM SPRING TEA All women of Messiah and their guests are invited to attend Women of Messiah s Annual Tea on Saturday, May 13 from 1-3 PM. It will be held in the Gathering Space. This year s theme is A Walk Into Spring. We will have a style show with clothing provided by Clothes Mentor and Plato s Closet, both from Roseville. Due to the nature of afternoon teas, ladies are encouraged to wear a hat. If you have none, an assortment of them will be provided if you wish to wear one. Opportunities to serve as hostesses, to prepare food, to help clean up will also be listed. There is no charge to attend but a free will offering will be appreciated.
