We welcome, serve, and educate.

Dear Parishioners, In the first reading we heard Moses establishing a covenant between God and the people of Israel. The prophets often compared the covenantal relationship between God and his people to a marriage relationship. God has always been faithful, but his people weren t always faithful. Jesus established a covenant with his people at the Last Supper when he gave his body and blood to be our food and drink. Every Eucharistic celebration is a renewal of that covenant. Today we celebrate the solemnity of the body and blood of Christ. May this Sunday s Eucharistic celebration be a renewal of our Commitment to Christ and our belief in the presence of Christ in the Eucharist! MASS INTENTIONS Mon. June 4 8:00am Linda Gill (D) Tues. The pollen counts have been very high; as a result, more adults have been diagnosed with adult onset Asthma. I hear many people say they are just having an allergy problemsneezing, running eyes and nose. If you then start having a cough, pay attention. If the cough persists and turns into a panting cough, you may have asthma. Asthma is the Greek word for panting. Asthma is a condition that causes inflammation and obstruction of the airways, and usually occurs in attacks or episodes. During an attack, the person makes a wheezing or whistling sound while breathing, coughs a great deal and spits up mucus. Learn as much as you can about asthma and what triggers or causes the attacks. The summer is coming; beware of ticks and mosquito bites! God Bless, Rose TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION The origins of today's solemnity lie in thirteenth-century Belgium. In those days, people seldom received Holy Communion, and never from the chalice. A nun in a troubled convent, Juliana of Liège, devoted her life to stirring up love for the Eucharist, lobbying for a feast day to honor the Blessed Sacrament with Masses and processions. Juliana may have been inspired by the Ascension Day processions in nearby Bruges. Crusaders brought a treasure home to Bruges from Constantinople in 1204: a reliquary said to contain a cloth from Joseph of Arimathea with which he had helped prepare the body of Jesus for burial. The stain on the cloth was said to be the holy blood itself, and so the people of Bruges built a great basilica to house the relic. Bruges became a great center of pilgrimage because of this treasure, and the procession of the Holy Blood is still one of the greatest festivals in Belgium today. The bishop carries the relic through the narrow streets, and the people wear medieval costumes and act out scenes from the Bible. Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion for the Homebound --NEEDED Bring the Blessed Sacrament to those unable to attend Mass- to homes, assisted living facilities, or hospitals. After signing up, a training session is provided. Please contact the Rectory Office if you are interested in being a part of this very special ministry. Parishioners in Need of Holy Communion at home: If you know of a parishioner who is unable to attend Mass but would like to receive Holy Communion, please contact the Rectory so that arrangements can be made for a Eucharistic Minister to bring the parishioner Holy Communion. Homebound includes anyone who is unable to attend Mass on an ongoing basis or anyone who is temporarily unable to go to Mass due to, for instance, a surgery, illness or injury. Cursillo Weekend Women s Cursillo November 8-11 Men s Cursillo November 15-18 Cursillo, a Spanish word meaning a short course in Christian Living, is a unique retreat experience that is presented largely by lay individuals who share their Christian walk in life through a series of informal talks and discussions. It is open to adult men and women of all Christian denominations and provides an opportunity to reflect on values and goals as Christians. It is filled with music, great food, and tremendous humor. This year s Cursillo weekends will be held at the San Francisco Theological Seminary in San Anselmo. Questions? Please email Cathy Cunningham at info@saintanselm.org. You get about 27,375 days on earth. Can you spare 3 of them with whom you ll be spending eternity? A BIT OF CHURCH HUMOR Thank God for church ladies with typewriters or computer keyboards. These sentences, with all of the bloopers, actually appeared in church bulletins or were announced in church services: -The Fasting and Prayer Conference includes meals. -Ladies, don t forget the rummage sale. It s a chance to get rid of those things not worth keeping around the house. Bring your husbands. -Don t let worry kill you off-let the Church help. -Miss Charlene Mason sang I will not pass this way again, giving obvious pleasure to the congregation. -For those of you who have children and don t know it, we have a nursery downstairs. -A bean supper will be held on Tuesday evening in the church hall. Music will follow. -At the evening service tonight, the sermon topic will be What is Hell? Come early and listen to our choir practice. -Eight new choir robes are currently needed due to the addition of several new members and to the deterioration of some older ones. -Please place your donation in the envelope along with the deceased person you want remembered. - The ladies of the Church have cast off clothing of every kind. They may be seen in the basement on Friday afternoon. -This evening at 7:00pm there will be a hymn singing in the park across from the Church. Bring a blanket and come prepared to sin. -The Pastor would appreciate it if the ladies of the Parish would lend him their electric girdles for the pancake breakfast next Sunday. -Low Self Esteem Support Group will meet next Thursday at 7:00pm. Please use the back door. -Weight Watchers will meet at 7:00pm at the First Presbyterian Church. Please use the large double door at the side entrance.
