Enter this Church not as a stranger, but as a guest of God. May the blessings of God rest upon you, both in your coming in and your going out. We are delighted to have you in worship. We ask that you please sign the Fellowship Pad at the end of the pew. For your convenience, we have a warm and loving nursery adjacent to the sanctuary, complete with an available paging system. We also have a Cry Room at the back of the Sanctuary (near the usher s table) on the pulpit side with windows and a speaker so that you can see and hear the service. If you have any questions or need literature regarding the life of Bethany Presbyterian Church, please visit the Welcome Center, located next to the sanctuary. Please turn off cell phones before worship. Thank you. *Indicates all who are able, please stand. Diemer The Call to Worship *The Hymn No. 72 Great is Thy Faithfulness *The Prayer of Confession Lord, You provide for our deepest needs; we focus on our wants. You provide us with blessings to share; we want to keep them for ourselves. You provide a world and neighbors who need us; so often we miss the opportunity to serve. You shower us with Your rich grace; we think of the things we do not have. Forgive us for wanting more instead of giving more, for holding back instead of pouring out. Free us to accept Your grace, count Your blessings, and serve Your children. In Christ s name. Amen.

National Family Promise Week: October 19-26, 2014 This week, Family Promise affiliates celebrate the uniting of the faith community to help children and their families who are homeless. Family Promise (IHN) was founded in New Jersey in 1988 on the belief that people are compassionate and want to make a difference. Today, Family Promise has grown into a national organization with 185 programs across the United States who are hosting families and keeping children safe while their parents re-build their lives. Since opening in Washington, PA in 1995, and with the addition seven years ago of our Pittsburgh program, Family Promise of Southwestern Pennsylvania, with the assistance of our congregation, has served nearly 500 local families, over 1650 individuals, including more than 900 children. In 2014 to date, we ve served 26 families; 80% have successfully moved from our program to homes of their own. Family Promise SWPA is so grateful to Bethany Presbyterian Church and your FP coordinator, Christine Comancho, for all you ve done to support the families God has entrusted to our care. For more information on Family Promise of Southwestern Pennsylvania and how YOU can help, talk with your FP coordinator or visit www.familypromiseswp.org.

In October 1776, with his wife and four young daughters, Reverend James Power became the first Presbyterian minister to permanently reside in western Pennsylvania. His family settled into a cabin near Brownsville, PA. Within a month of their arrival a fifth daughter graced their home! Power was a circuit riding pastor preaching at Laurel Hill, Mt. Pleasant, Sewickley, Tyrone and Unity. His travels often exposed him to unfriendly Indians who frequently raided settlements in the area. On several occasions he was reported killed by the Indians but the hand of Almighty God must have protected him as he continued to reappear in the scattered churches of the area. After three years as an itinerating minister, he became the settled pastor of the Sewickley and Mt. Pleasant congregations in Westmoreland County.
