One teacher lead orderly free play. 4:00 4:10 ACTIVITY SHEET / ARRIVING ACTIVITY: Activity Sheet: Distribute activity pages and instruct the kids to complete the challenge. (On the back of the coloring sheet) INTRO ACTIVITY: Immediate Obedience Give the kids a command, such as sit down, untie your left shoe, or clap three times. Try to watch for who is able to obey the command the fastest. Whoever is the fastest to obey will give the next command. Continue until all kids have had a chance to give a command or as time allows. Say: When God tells us to do something, we should obey immediately. Do we always obey immediately? No! We do not! Today we will learn about a man named Jonah, who did not obey God immediately or joyfully. I can t wait to hear what happened next! 4:10 4:15 CLEAN UP / GO OVER RULES & CONSEQUENCES: Rules are on the wall by the door 4:15 4:50 KIDS LIVE: Have the kids sit together. Keep an eye on them and the door for more kids. 4:50 5:00 CRAFT: Craft: Jonah and the whale Items needed: printout of Jonah and the whale, crayons, clothespin, scissors, glue Instructions: (1) Give each child a printout of Jonah and the whale. Have them color and cut them out. (2) Have them cut the whale in half. (3) Have the child glue the two piece of the whale on the clothespin. (4) On the back side of the clothespin have the child glue Jonah. (5) Use the example to show the child to open the clothespin so they can see Jonah in the whale. Say: Jonah had a very important message from God, but he didn t want to deliver it. He went the opposite direction God told him to go! Despite Jonah s disobedience, God showed compassion and gave Jonah a second chance to obey. God sent a giant fish to change Jonah s plans into God s plans. God wanted to help the people of Nineveh. God made and loves all people. 5:00 5:10 BIBLE STORY REVIEW: Story: Read the Bible Story provided in the teacher aid bin. Say: Jonah chose to flee from God instead of obeying Him. Jonah faced consequences for his sin, like being thrown into the ocean and swallowed by a fish! But God still gave Jonah another chance to obey. God made and loves all people! Let s take a look! Lesson: Go over Classroom Rules: Play the Intro-Video Timeline View: This week, we will be hearing the story of Jonah, Prophet to Nineveh. Main Point: That leads us to our main point: God made and loves all people! Show the Main Point Everyone say that with me (Have them repeat the MAIN Point) Very interesting! Let s take a look at how he did this! Bible Story: Play the Bible Story Video: Jonah had a very important message from God, but he didn t want to deliver it. He went the opposite direction God told him to go! Despite Jonah s disobedience, God showed compassion and gave Jonah a second chance to obey. God sent a giant fish to change Jonah s plans into God s plans. Sadly, even after Jonah had obeyed, he showed that he didn t really understand God. You see the Ninevites were enemies of God s people. Nineveh was an evil city, and Jonah didn t think they deserved God s mercy. And well, technically they didn t! Jonah was angry when God showed mercy to the Ninevites. But God made people, and He cares about them. We are all sinners who need God s mercy, and none of us deserves it. God loves to be merciful! He showed mercy to us by sending Jesus to us while we were still His enemies. Jonah wanted to see his enemies punished, but Jesus wants to see us repent and be restored to God. Jesus died on the cross and rose again to make the way for that to happen. Show Main Point (Have them repeat the MAIN Point!) God made and loves all people!

Application: Let s watch our discussion starter video and see what it might have to do with our story. Play the Discussion Starter Video: Jonah did not want to take God s message to his enemies, and he was angry when God showed mercy to the Ninevites. God explained that He cares about all people. God showed mercy to sinners when He sent Jesus to die for us when we were His enemies. When Jesus rose again, it made the way for us to be with God. Because God has shown mercy to us, we can show mercy to others. Show Memory Verse: Repeat after me 2 Peter 3:9B God wants everyone to change his heart and life. Show Main Point: Let s review our Main Point one more time. God made and loves all people! (Have them repeat the MAIN Point!) Dismiss kids to class:

Bible Story: Video Jonah, Prophet to Nineveh Jonah 1-4 God told the prophet Jonah, Go to the great city of Nineveh. Tell them to stop doing evil things. Nineveh was the capital of Assyria. The people there were enemies of God s people. Jonah did not go to Nineveh. He got on a boat heading the other way! God sent a terrible storm, and the sailors were afraid! They cast lots, like flipping coins or tossing dice, to figure out who caused this trouble. The lot fell on Jonah. They asked Jonah, Who are you? What are you doing here? Jonah replied, I am a Hebrew. I worship the one true God who made everything. What had Jonah done to make God angry? The sailors did not know what to do, so Jonah told them to throw him into the sea. When they did, the storm stopped. From that moment on, the sailors worshiped the one true God. God sent a big fish to swallow Jonah, and Jonah was in the belly of the fish three days and three nights. Jonah prayed and thanked God for sending the fish to save him. Then the fish vomited Jonah onto dry land. God said to Jonah, Go to Nineveh and preach My message. So Jonah went. He walked around the city shouting God s message: In 40 days, Nineveh will be destroyed! The people turned from their evil ways. Everyone put on sackcloth and did not eat. Even the king repented. God decided not to destroy Nineveh. I knew it! Jonah said. I know You are a gracious God. You show mercy to people. You are slow to anger, and You are loving. I knew You would decide to not destroy Nineveh. I am so mad! Is it right for you to be angry? God asked. Jonah left Nineveh and made a shelter where he could still see the city. God taught Jonah a lesson. He provided a plant to shade Jonah from the sun. Jonah was glad to have the plant. But the next day, God sent a worm. The worm attacked the plant, and the plant died. Then God sent a dry east wind. Jonah was so hot, he almost fainted. I want to die, Jonah said. God asked Jonah, Is it right for you to be angry about the plant? Yes! Jonah said. It is right. I m so angry, I could die. God said, You cared about the plant, but you did not take care of it or make it grow. It only lasted one day. But Nineveh is a big city with thousands of people. I created them and care about them. Aren t they more important than a plant? Christ Connection: God called Jonah to go to his enemies and call them to turn away from their sin, but Jonah refused. Instead, he ran away. Later, God sent Jesus to His enemies to call us to repentance. Jesus willingly obeyed. Jesus died on the cross to rescue us from sin.
