` ISSUE 158 August 2015 WRITE TO EDITOR CONTENTS FEATURE>THE PRAYER OF JEHOSHAPHAT... CHURCH NEWS>USGA CHURCH DEVELOPMENT AND SACRED WORK UPDATE CHURCH NEWS>CHURCH DEVELOPMENT IN NEW ZEALAND... INTERCESSION... ONE DOLLAR ONE SOUL..... Feature The Prayer of Jehoshaphat Dn. Richard Solgot Then Jehoshaphat stood in the assembly of Judah and Jerusalem, in the house of the LORD, before the new court, and said O LORD God of our fathers, are You not God in heaven, and do You not rule over all the kingdoms of the nations, and in Your hand is there not power and might, so that no one is able to withstand You? Are You not our God, who drove out the inhabitants of this land before Your people Israel, and gave it to the descendants of Abraham Your friend forever? And they dwell in it, and have built You a sanctuary in it for Your name, saying, If disaster comes upon us sword, judgment, pestilence, or famine we will stand before this temple in Your presence (for Your name is in this temple), and cry out to You in our affliction, and You will hear and save. And now, here are the people of Ammon, Moab, and Mount Seir whom You would not let Israel invade when they came out of the land of Egypt, but they turned from them and did not destroy them here they are, rewarding us by coming to throw us out of Your possession which You have given us to inherit. O our God, will You not judge them? For we have no power against this great multitude that is coming against us, nor do we know what to do, but our eyes are upon you. Modern day believers can learn some good lessons from Old Testament prayers. When

Jehoshaphat beseeched God for help, he struck a balance between asking the Lord to meet his needs and proclaiming His greatness. Likewise, our requests should be made with recognition of who God is. Otherwise, the focus of our prayers becomes need, weakness, failure, or fear. Jehoshaphat cried out to God about his terrible predicament, but he also exalted the Lord s attributes, acknowledging the great things He had done. When we pray like this, we become stronger, bolder, and more forthright. That s why knowing the Word of God is so important. When we read about how the Lord worked in the lives of others, we understand His awesome power and might. Then we can look to the men and women of the Old Testament as an example and begin to pray in a similar way. God s wonder-working power is still available today, and He wants His children to access it. By proclaiming Power and might are in Your hand so that no one can stand against You (vs 6), Jehoshaphat was praising God and at the same time reminding himself of the Lord s greatness. As you pray, remind God of His mercy, talk to Him about His grace, and recall His mighty power. If you focus as much attention on declaring the attributes of the Lord as you do on making requests, your prayers will take on a whole new dimension. They ll cease to be self-centered and instead will become God-centered. Church News USGA Church Development and Sacred Work Update Hallelujah, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, we would like to share with our brothers and sisters around the world recent developments in the holy work of the USGA and among the churches in the United States. Raleigh and Maui Houses of Prayer The Raleigh House of Prayer in North Carolina and Maui House of Prayer in Hawaii were recently been established as of April 1 this year. May the Lord guide the church growth in these new areas. Dallas Church The Dallas Church broke ground on September 25, 2014 for its new church location. The size of building is 14,000 sq ft. including a dining room, 10 RE classrooms, a pastor room, and 10

showers. The chapel can seat 180-200 people. The dedication service is scheduled for November 1st, 2015. The Dallas Church is currently still in need of $217K to complete this project. So, they are once again asking for your financial support and prayers. Architect s rendering of the new Dallas Church building Philadelphia Church The Philadelphia Church found a new chapel location after several years of searching. it has ample classroom space and large areas for fellowship meals and services. Because the newly purchased building has not been in regular use, it has fallen into disrepair and requires repairs and renovation. The church projects to complete renovation and start using the building in 2016. Philadelphia Church s newly acquired chapel Washington, D.C. House of Prayer Washington D.C. was formally established as a House of Prayer in October 18, 2014. The current membership in these areas totals about 50. There is an average of 35 members who regularly attend Sabbath services and 27 of them are adult members.

Brothers and sisters of Washington D.C. House of Prayer Glendale Church The former El Monte church has sold the previous chapel and officially moved in to Glendale church, which was purchased earlier this year. The first service was held on June 14, 2014, and the building dedication was on May 17 th, 2015. Exterior of Glendale Church and Sabbath worship service

Dominican Republic The chapel construction in the Dominican Republic was completed on November 1, 2014. The Dominican Republic congregation held its first service in the new chapel on the same day. Many thanks to all the brothers and sisters who had devoted their time, energy, efforts, and prayers to our Dominican Republic congregation, and may God remember all your labor of love. New church building in the Dominican Republic Church News Church Development in New Zealand Fu-An Shi We have three churches in New Zealand. Auckland Church and East Auckland Church, which was established last year, are located on the North Island; Christchurch Church is located on the South Island. The total membership of the three churches is 449. There is one resident preacher, assigned by the Taiwan GA, whose time is divided into residing in the three churches. These three churches have not yet formed a coordination center. However, there is a Holy Work Coordination Committee, which consists of church council members from the three churches. This Committee holds a regular meeting in June once a year to coordinate and pass resolutions on relevant holy works of the three churches. Each church also takes turns to be in charge for communicating with churches overseas.

Each of the three churches holds a Spring ESSC, an Autumn ESSC, and Bible seminars. Each church is also engaged in evangelical work at its chapel. In addition to these events, there is a Student Spiritual Convocation every year. There are 233 members and one deacon in Auckland Church. In the northern area and the western area, a rented venue serves as the regular gathering place for service in each area. In the northern area, the service was only held on Tuesday evenings; however, a proposal was just passed at a general meeting to hold an additional service on Friday evenings. The average number of service attendants is about 15 people. Pastoring is the main focus. In the southern area, the service is held on Tuesday mornings, with outreach as the main focus. The average number of service attendants is about 60 people. Besides the 10 church workers, one-third of the attendants are the newly baptized and two-third are truth-seekers. Most of them are seniors from China who immigrated to New Zealand with their children. Nearly 20 people have received the precious Holy Spirit. There are 110 members and two deacons in East Auckland Church. Even though the church is newly established, the operation of holy work is fairly stable. Except Sabbath morning services, each service has progressed on schedule. There is a gathering place for service in the southern area, with mainly three households of believers in the area; pastoring is the main focus. A service is held every two weeks on Saturday evening, because some members need to work on Saturday. There are 106 members and two deacons in Christchurch Church. Two sessions of services are held on Saturday mornings. The second session is in the form of group fellowship, which has Bible study as its main activity. Monday evening services are also conducted in the form of Bible study. On Friday evenings, a hymnal worship & prayer service is held if the preacher is away. Currently, Christchurch Church has purchased two residential houses next to the church. One is rented out. The other is used for receiving members, and it can accommodate about 20 people. In addition, more than 20 members are scattered over seven townships on the North and South island. They can attend live services online. Church workers also carry out pastoral visitations every year for them. Some of them also attend the two ESSCs held within the year. The three churches in New Zealand also work together to conduct pastoral visitations in Tonga and Samoa. Ten groups of workers are assigned every year, 6 groups visit Tonga and 4 to Samoa.
