Culinary Learning Journey of Israel March 7 14, 2018 Wednesday, March 7th 2018 - Arrive in Tel Aviv, Israel. You will be met at the airport and driven to the David Citadel Hotel, in Jerusalem We will start our program with a spiritual twilight tour of Mt. Zion s hidden courtyards in the Jewish quarter in the old city. After following our guide and wandering around, we ll end this magical experience at the Western Wall. Dinner tonight will be a tasting menu at the one of Jerusalem s toprated restaurants Chakra. Thursday, March 8th 2018 - Breakfast will be at the hotel Today starts with an overview of Jerusalem from the Mount of Olives, where we will enjoy a taste of local "champagne" and fresh strawberries. We will then move on to visit Gat Semane the church and the garden. We will then enter the old city via the dung gate, walk the Western Wall tunnels which ends at Via Dolorosa. We will have a casual Humus lunch at Abu Shukri before heading out to visit the Austrian hospice rooftop for an intimate overview of Temple Mount and the old city, option for a great apple strudel and cappuccino in the charming garden of the hospice
Our walk will take us through the markets to the church of Holy Sepulcher, including the hidden cisterns of the church and the actual room of the Last Supper Tonight we are going to have a Biblicalstyle dinner at Eucalyptus with Chef Moshe Basson. We ll learn about the ingredients which were available and their uses in biblical times a dinner entitled From the Bible to the Table. After dinner, we ll take an evening walk through Mea Shearimn to visit the bakeries that prepare the special bread and cakes for Shabbat. Overnight: David Citadel Hotel, Jerusalem Friday, March 9th 2018 After breakfast at the hotel we ll make a morning visit of Yad Vashem. We ll visit the traditional market stands of the Machne Yehuda market in small groups where we ll be able to nibble and learn about interesting local ingredient combinations In the late afternoon we plan a visit to the Western Wall to view the yeshiva boys who greet the Shabbat with dances. After which, we ll be hosted for a Shabbat dinner in a beautiful and picturesque locality in Jerusalem with a young, innovative chef, Ein Kerem. Overnight: David Citadel Hotel, Jerusalem Saturday, March 10th, 2018 After breakfast, we leave Jerusalem and travel to MASADA, a rock fortress in the Judean desert, built as one of Herod s many winter palaces, and later the last stronghold of the zealots as they rebelled against the Romans.
We will then continue on to the DEAD SEA to enjoy the floating and mud experience. We will then travel along the Jordan Valley to Nazareth. For lunch, we ll be tasting the local Arab cuisine in Nazareth and be able to spend time with Duchul of Diana, possibly with a chef friend from Tel Aviv in the kitchen. We will also visit the Church of The Annunciation The evening dinner will be at Mitzpe Hayamim Here you will be able to visit the amazing organic farm of the hotel. The farm grows vegetables, herbs, and fruit, and raises livestock among the ponds and streams. They even have their own dairy and we ll get to sample some of the cheeses along with a wine tasting with local chefs. Overnight: Mitzpe Hayamim Hotel, Rosh Pina Sunday, March 11th, 2018 After breakfast at the hotel, we ll depart for a boat adventure on the Sea of Galilee heading to Capernaum and to visit Tabgha & The Mount of Beatitudes. From there, we will be traveling by jeep along the fountain route with Syrian bunkers overlooking the Hulla Valley and the upper Galilee, where we will visit the famous wine cellar of Golan Wineries to taste their wines served with local cheeses and artisan breads. We will partake in a vegetarian lunch with the Druze on this day. The afternoon will allow us to visit Tzfat the center of Jewish mysticism, where we will meet locals, walk through the old city and the artists colony, and the cheese cave, to taste some homemade calzones of the old ladies of Tzfat. Dinner: Levona Orchard. Once we arrive at the Levona Orchard we will be planting a fruit tree in honor of the International Caterers Association. Dinner will include the hospitality of some local chefs with a wine tasting of boutique wineries of the region.
Overnight: Mitzpe Hayamim Hotel, Rosh Pina Monday March 12th, 2018 After breakfast at the hotel we will continue on to Akko, to meet up with a local guide to explore the amazing, vibrant markets. We ll walk through the tunnels the Crusaders used and explore the secrets of the old city. After exploring the Crusaders Halls, we will meet Uri Yarmias, better known as Uri Buri in his fish restaurant. We will also visit Caesarea including the theater and the old port Tonight s Dinner will be hosted by Tova Wald, who organized this entire trip. Our chef for the evening will be Paul Assenheim another one of the young, talented chefs of Israel. Overnight: Dan Hotel, Tel Aviv Tuesday, March 13th, 2018 After Breakfast at the hotel, we will walk Rothschild Boulevard to learn about Bauhaus architecture, learn about the development of the first Hebrew town 110 years ago and enjoy the tastes and snacks in the kiosks and trendy restaurants of the boulevard. We will have escorted food walks through the Lewinski and Carmel Markets. At twilight, we will walk in Jaffa the old city and the port, the native restaurants, the trendy bars and the amazing home-cooking restaurants all nested in picturesque and multicultural Jaffa. Tonight we will have our Festive Farewell Dinner to say Shalom to those not joining the rest of the group in Jordan, for the next few days. PETRA MARCH 14 16 ADD ON OPTION Wednesday, March 14, 2018 Fly to Eilat, where we will cross the border into Jordan. We will then travel to Wadi Rum for an amazing jeep tour along the famous Laurence of Arabia deserts including authentic Bedouin style lunch in a remote tent. From there we will travel on to Petra where we will enjoy a cooking workshop. Overnight: Petra Movenpick Hotel Thursday, March 15, 2018 Our full day guided visit to Petra will include lunch. In the late in the afternoon we will once again cross the border back into Eilat, Israel. We will then fly to Tel Aviv and have dinner there.
