THIRTY - FIRST SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME SUNDAY COLLECTION BASKET OCTOBER 23, 2016 $ 10,424 OCTOBER 25, 2015 $ 9,779 OCTOBER 30, 2016 First Reading: Wisdom 11:22 12:2 In this reading, we are reminded of the love God feels toward every creature, or else he would not have created them. God shows mercy on our sins and hopes we will repent and have faith in him. Second Reading: 2 Thessalonians 1:11 2:2 Paul tells the Thessalonians that God will make them worthy of his call, so that they can be glorified in Christ. Paul also tells them he is unsure when Christ will come again, but urges them not to believe people who falsely state that Jesus has returned. Gospel: Luke 19:1-10 Zacchaeus, the wealthy chief tax collector in Jericho, was very excited when Jesus came to town and asked to stay with him. People were angry that Jesus would go to a sinner's home. Zacchaeus then told Jesus he planned to give half of his belongings to the poor, and repay any person he had cheated. Jesus was delighted since his mission was "to search out and save what was lost." HERE S WHAT S COMING UP THIS WEEK OCTOBER 30th - November 5th MONDAY -10/31 - Vigil Mass - 5:30P.M. 50TH ANNIVERSARY DINNER-DANCE A HOME RUN! Our Friday evening, October 21st 50TH Anniversary DinnerDance at the Hilton was enjoyed by a huge crowd of almost 200 people and was the parish social highlight of the year. As anticipated, the social hour consisted of a delicious selection of hors d oeuvres, served at carving stations, buffet tables and butler style. The dinner was simply fabulous with a choice of filet mignon, salmon or chicken breast. Throughout the evening (and after), we heard nothing but rave reviews. Many thanks to our dedicated and hardworking committee who worked on this special, three-pronged, project - the anniversary journal, the 50-50 raffle drawing and the gala dinner-dance. Our DJ, Jimmy Schutz, provided a nice variety of music and songs throughout the evening, including some of the top hits of 1966 and the decades that followed. After dinner the dancers among us got right up on the dance floor and had a ball. Our parishioner, John Flaherty (YES TV s Voice of the Yankees) did a great job as our MC. Our Dinner coordinator, Fran Amendola worked tirelessly with a great team which included Maria DiBlasi, Pat Shannon, Rita Reers, Bob Reers, Kay Quinlivan, Sister Peggy Scarano and Elaine Backman. Our 50th Anniversary Journal exceeded our expectations. and we are especially grateful to our design and layout specialist, Catherine Mazzocchi and, of course, to our sponsor & advertising coordinators Maria DiBlasi and Rita Reers. During the dinner, we paused to recognize and to honor our retired pastor, Msgr. Joseph Penna who joined us for the evening; Deacon Jim Maher; retired Administrative Assistant Gloria Albert and our MC, John Flaherty who so generously agreed to be with us on his birthday. All were presented with a custom designed 50th anniversary souvenir wooden carving of Saint Aedan Church. (These will soon be available to anyone who would like a 50th souvenir at the modest cost of just $20.00.) By the time we picked the winning tickets out of the drum, our anniversary 50-50 drawing also far exceeded our expectations with a grand total of $14,288.00. The 50% we gave away as prizes amounted to $7,144.00. Congratulations to the lucky winners. First Prize (30%) $4,225.00 Eileen Urban Second prize (15%) $2,114.00 Mary & John Scanlon Third Prize (5%) $ 705.00 Mary Ellen Tash + PARISH MEMORIAL MASS + ANNUAL PARISH MEMORIAL MASS WEDNESDAY NOVEMBER 2ND 7 PM During this Mass, we will have a special Ceremony of Remembrance and read aloud the names of all those who died and who had their funerals held here at Saint Aedan Church during the past year. Families or their designees will be invited to process down the aisle and place a flower in the vase in front of the altar as their loved ones name is called out. We will also remember, in our prayers, any of our other beloved deceased who died elsewhere during the past year and whose names are sent to us. Our Parish Memorial Mass will be held on All Souls evening, Wednesday, Nov. 2ND, at 7:00 PM. The mass will be concelebrated and will be followed by a light reception in the parish hall. Please contact the parish office at 845-735-7405 or email your information to staedan@optonline.net In the morning at the rising of the sun and at its setting, we shall remember. PARISH ALL SOULS NOVENA. These envelopes, containing the names of our loved ones, will remain on the altar throughout the entire month of November. Envelopes are still available at our exit doors for those who did not receive them in the mail. (AED) AUTOMATED EXTERNAL DEFIBRILLATOR NEW VOLUNTEERS ARE NEEDED 911 call, dispatch these emergency responders and have them arrive on scene and begin treating the heart attack victim. In the case of a cardiac arrest, every minute is precious. We realize that some of you have previous training in basic CPR, including the use of the AED. It will not be necessary for you to attend a training session. Just let us know who you are. New volunteers will be asked to attend an evening training session offered right here in our parish hall date to be announced. The defibrillator unit (AED) is actually quite user friendly. A computerized voice guides the responder every step along the way and so it is fairly close to foolproof. Remember, this unit is designed to be used by non-medical personnel who are responding to a medical emergency involving a possible cardiac arrest. Please RSVP and let Msgr. Nevin know if you are willing to be added to our parish list of trained AED responders (735-7405) or staedan@optonline.net. Health care personnel and those who already have a current CPR card are especially welcome to join our team. PLEASE JOIN OUR EMERGENCY RESPONSE TEAM. The person saved could be YOU! VIRTUAL PILGRIMAGE TO LOURDES SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 12TH SAINT AEDAN S CHURCH 2:00 PM The shrine of Our Lady of Lourdes, France, is one of the most well known and revered pilgrimage sites in all of Christendom. Some of us, like our own Father John Palatucci and I have been fortunate enough to have traveled to Lourdes but most of us will never have that opportunity. Now, you are invited to join us for a 90 minute virtual pilgrimage of Lourdes. From the very beginning when Saint Bernadette first spoke of the apparitions of Our Lady right up to the present time, millions of faithful men and women have made the journey to Lourdes to seek comfort and healing both physically and spiritually. On November 12th, you may enjoy a taste of The Lourdes experience at St. Aedan s. Touch a rock from the grotto, loaned to us by the bishop. Be blessed with Lourdes water, pray, sing, light a candle and imagine yourself right there with pilgrims from around the world singing the praises of Mary, the Mother of God. Those who attend come away spiritually renewed and many express a desire to make a pilgrimage to the actual shrine of Lourdes in France. The Holy See has allowed the privilege of a Plenary Indulgence for those who participate in the pilgrimage. Following our Virtual Pilgrimage, we will gather in the parish hall for some light refreshments. You need not RSVP, just commit yourself to being there. Perhaps you will consider offering a ride to someone who doesn t drive. Our Lady of Lourdes, pray for us! THE PATRIOTIC ROSARY At this time, we would welcome additional volunteers to step up and join our team of trained volunteer AED responders. Defibrillation cannot assure survival, no matter how rapid the treatment. In some patients, the underlying problem causing the cardiac arrest is simply not survivable despite available care. We presently have AED s on the rear wall of the church and in the gym lobby. They are stored in RED Will be recited at St. Aedan's in the Church on Tuesday, November 8th at 7:00P.M. There will be patriotic songs between each decade. Everyone is welcome! cases, inside highly visible white metal cabinets. The survival rates for sudden cardiac arrest are often directly related to how soon victims are defibrillated. For every minute of delay, the chance of survival declines by 7% to 10%. Our local police, ambulance and paramedic units carry AED s. However, it takes several minutes to process a There is a Pro Life Mass celebrated every 1st Monday night of the month at 7:30 pm at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 12 Parrott Road in West Nyack.
