The Bible Spirituality is Healing Humanity June 8, 2016 Hymns 178, 434, 442 I Tim. 2:1-3 (to God), 4 I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men; For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty. For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth. I John 3:19 And hereby we know that we are of the truth, and shall assure our hearts before him. I John 3:11 For this is the message that ye heard from the beginning, that we should love one another. I John 3:18 My little children, let us not love in word, neither in tongue; but in deed and in truth. John 8:31 (to Jesus), 32 ye Then said Jesus ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free. Matt. 9:35-38; 10:1 And Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every sickness and every disease among the people. But when he saw the multitudes, he was moved with compassion on them, because they fainted, and were scattered abroad, as sheep having no shepherd. Then saith he unto his disciples, The harvest truly is plenteous, but the labourers are few; Pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he will send forth labourers into his harvest. And when he had called unto him his twelve disciples, he gave them power against unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal all manner of sickness and all manner of disease. Matt. 9:27-30 (to ;), 32, 33 And when Jesus departed thence, two blind men followed him, crying, and saying, Thou Son of David, have mercy on us. And when he was come into the house, the blind men came to him: and Jesus saith unto them, Believe ye that I am able to do this? They said unto him, Yea, Lord. Then touched he their eyes, saying, According to your faith be it unto you. And their eyes were opened; As they went out, behold, they brought to him a dumb man possessed with a devil. And when the devil was cast out, the dumb spake: and the multitudes marvelled, saying, It was never so seen in Israel.
I John 4:4 (to 2nd,), 4 because, 6 (to ;), 7, 11, 12 If Ye are of God, little children, because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world. We are of God: he that knoweth God heareth us; Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God. Beloved, if God so loved us, we ought also to love one another. If we love one another, God dwelleth in us, and his love is perfected in us. II Tim. 2:1 (to 1st,), 1 be, 2, 7, 15, 22-24 follow Thou therefore, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus. And the things that thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also. Consider what I say; and the Lord give thee understanding in all things. Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. follow righteousness, faith, charity, peace, with them that call on the Lord out of a pure heart. But foolish and unlearned questions avoid, knowing that they do gender strifes. And the servant of the Lord must not strive; but be gentle unto all men, apt to teach, patient, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, by Mary Baker Eddy SH 454:17-18 Love for God and man is the true incentive in both healing and teaching. SH 494:10 Divine Love always has met and always will meet every human need. It is not well to imagine that Jesus demonstrated the divine power to heal only for a select number or for a limited period of time, since to all mankind and in every hour, divine Love supplies all good. SH 138:9-22, 27-30 On this spiritually scientific basis Jesus explained his cures, which appeared miraculous to outsiders. He showed that diseases were cast out neither by corporeality, by materia medica, nor by hygiene, but by the divine Spirit, casting out the errors of mortal mind. The supremacy of Spirit was the foundation on which Jesus built. His sublime summary points to the religion of Love. Jesus established in the Christian era the precedent for all Christianity, theology, and healing. Christians are under as direct orders now, as they were then, to be Christlike, to possess the Christ-spirit, to follow the Christexample, and to heal the sick as well as the sinning. Our Master said to every follower: Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature! Heal the sick! Love thy neighbor as thyself! SH 34:18-20 Through all the disciples experienced, they became more spiritual and understood better what the Master had taught. SH 95:6-10, 12-13 We approach God, or Life, in proportion to our spirituality, our fidelity to Truth and Love; and in that ratio we know all human need and are able to
discern the thought of the sick and the sinning for the purpose of healing them. Whoever reaches this point of moral culture and goodness cannot injure others, and must do them good. SH 99:23-29 The calm, strong currents of true spirituality, the manifestations of which are health, purity, and self-immolation, must deepen human experience, until the beliefs of material existence are seen to be a bald imposition, and sin, disease, and death give everlasting place to the scientific demonstration of divine Spirit and to God s spiritual, perfect man. SH 494:15 Jesus Jesus demonstrated the inability of corporeality, as well as the infinite ability of Spirit, thus helping erring human sense to flee from its own convictions and seek safety in divine Science. Reason, rightly directed, serves to correct the errors of corporeal sense; but sin, sickness, and death will seem real (even as the experiences of the sleeping dream seem real) until the Science of man s eternal harmony breaks their illusion with the unbroken reality of scientific being. SH vii:13-17 Truth Truth, independent of doctrines and time-honored systems, knocks at the portal of humanity. Contentment with the past and the cold conventionality of materialism are crumbling away. SH 216:9 Spirituality (only) Spirituality lays open siege to materialism. SH 36:14-18 The earthly price of spirituality in a material age and the great moral distance between Christianity and sensualism preclude Christian Science from finding favor with the worldly-minded. SH 352:8-11 To Jesus, not materiality, but spirituality, was the reality of man s existence, while to the rabbis the spiritual was the intangible and uncertain, if not the unreal. SH 117:15-27 Our Master taught spirituality by similitudes and parables. As a divine student he unfolded God to man, illustrating and demonstrating Life and Truth in himself and by his power over the sick and sinning. Human theories are inadequate to interpret the divine Principle involved in the miracles (marvels) wrought by Jesus and especially in his mighty, crowning, unparalleled, and triumphant exit from the flesh. Evidence drawn from the five physical senses relates solely to human reason; and because of opacity to the true light, human reason dimly reflects and feebly transmits Jesus works and words. SH 343:21-24 It would sometimes seem as if truth were rejected because meekness and spirituality are the conditions of its acceptance, while Christendom generally demands so much less.
SH 270:31-5 The life of Christ Jesus was not miraculous, but it was indigenous to his spirituality, the good soil wherein the seed of Truth springs up and bears much fruit. Christ s Christianity is the chain of scientific being reappearing in all ages, maintaining its obvious correspondence with the Scriptures and uniting all periods in the design of God. SH 494:30-3 Our Master cast out devils (evils) and healed the sick. It should be said of his followers also, that they cast fear and all evil out of themselves and others and heal the sick. God will heal the sick through man, whenever man is governed by God. Truth casts out error now as surely as it did nineteen centuries ago. SH 356:9-11 Jesus reasoned on this subject practically, and controlled sickness, sin, and death on the basis of his spirituality. SH 51:28 His His spirituality separated him from sensuousness, and caused the selfish materialist to hate him; but it was this spirituality which enabled Jesus to heal the sick, cast out evil, and raise the dead. SH 114:32-8 Apart from the usual opposition to everything new, the one great obstacle to the reception of that spirituality, through which the understanding of Mind-science comes, is the inadequacy of material terms for metaphysical statements, and the consequent difficulty of so expressing metaphysical ideas as to make them comprehensible to any reader, who has not personally demonstrated Christian Science as brought forth in my discovery. SH vii:27-2 (to ;) Since the author s discovery of the might of Truth in the treatment of disease as well as of sin, her system has been fully tested and has not been found wanting; SH 242:15-20 In In patient obedience to a patient God, let us labor to dissolve with the universal solvent of Love the adamant of error, self-will, self-justification, and self-love, which wars against spirituality and is the law of sin and death. SH 201:9 Passions, selfishness, false appetites, hatred, fear, all sensuality, yield to spirituality, and the superabundance of being is on the side of God, good. SH 471:13-17 The facts of divine Science should be admitted, although the evidence as to these facts is not supported by evil, by matter, or by material sense,
because the evidence that God and man coexist is fully sustained by spiritual sense. SH 455:3-10 A mental state of self-condemnation and guilt or a faltering and doubting trust in Truth are unsuitable conditions for healing the sick. Such mental states indicate weakness instead of strength. Hence the necessity of being right yourself in order to teach this Science of healing. You must utilize the moral might of Mind in order to walk over the waves of error and support your claims by demonstration. SH 251:24-30 This process of higher spiritual understanding improves mankind until error disappears, and nothing is left which deserves to perish or to be punished. Ignorance, like intentional wrong, is not Science. Ignorance must be seen and corrected before we can attain harmony. SH 455:30 The higher your attainment in the Science of mental healing and teaching, the more impossible it will become for you intentionally to influence mankind adverse to its highest hope and achievement. SH 368:2, 14 The confidence inspired by Science lies in the fact that Truth is real and error is unreal. Error is a coward before Truth. Divine Science insists that time will prove all this. Both truth and error have come nearer than ever before to the apprehension of mortals, and truth will become still clearer as error is self-destroyed. When we come to have more faith in the truth of being than we have in error, more faith in Spirit than in matter, more faith in living than in dying, more faith in God than in man, then no material suppositions can prevent us from healing the sick and destroying error. SH 471:18-20 God is infinite, therefore ever present, and there is no other power nor presence. Hence the spirituality of the universe is the only fact of creation. SH 469:30-5 With one Father, even God, the whole family of man would be brethren; and with one Mind and that God, or good, the brotherhood of man would consist of Love and Truth, and have unity of Principle and spiritual power which constitute divine Science. SH 467:8 Thou Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself. It should be thoroughly understood that all men have one Mind, one God and Father, one Life, Truth, and Love. Mankind will become perfect in proportion as this fact becomes apparent, war will cease and the true brotherhood of man will be established. Having no other gods, turning to no other but the one perfect Mind to guide him, man is the likeness of God, pure and eternal, having that Mind which was also in Christ.
SH 224:22 A higher and more practical Christianity, demonstrating justice and meeting the needs of mortals in sickness and in health, stands at the door of this age, knocking for admission. Will you open or close the door upon this angel visitant, who cometh in the quiet of meekness, as he came of old to the patriarch at noonday?
