Ministry with a Mission Game Plan for a Ministry on Mission through Sunday School! Maysville Baptist Church Leadership Training October 18, 2015
MINISTRY: Identified & Multiplied As vitally important as the Bible lesson is, the MOM (Ministry On Mission) Sunday School class does not function only as a one-hour-per-week group. In fact, if the Bible lesson were the only aspect of a Sunday School class, you could simply meet in the sanctuary and have the best teacher in the church teach the whole congregation. As wonderful as the Bible lesson would be, it would fail to accomplish one of the great objectives of Sunday School: MINISTRY
MINISTRY: Identified & Multiplied HANDS - ON ministry was one of the hallmarks of the first century church. Acts 2:42-47 The book of ACTS clearly shows the early believers caring for one another. When one had a NEED, the others shared their possessions.
MINISTRY: Identified & Multiplied Where is the best place for ministry NOT to take place? In our WORSHIP service. WHY??? A. No one would be AWARE of the need for ministry B. No one would feel a particular RESPONSIBILITY to respond to ministry. C. Accountability would be null and void. Remember our goal is to CARE for those in the body of Christ. NOONE needs to fall through the cracks.
MINISTRY: Identified & Multiplied Our PASTOR is not the only one responsible for ministry. Our STAFF are not the only one s responsible for ministry. As our church continues to grow, the demand for MINISTRY continues to grow as well. Ephesians 4:11-12
MINISTRY: Identified & Multiplied Where is the best place for ministry to take place? In our SUNDAY SCHOOL classes. A. Ministry through the Sunday School class assigns RESPONSIBLITY. B. With responsibility comes accountability. Who will take a MEAL? Who will make a PHONE CALL? Who will send a POSTCARD/EMAIL/TEXT? Who will make a VISIT?
MINISTRY: Identified & Multiplied Remember: Our Ministry of Mission Statement is Loving God, Loving Others & Serving the World. And our purpose statement is Connecting People to Jesus Christ and to Each Other.
MINISTRY: Identified & Multiplied For ministry to occur it will require recruiting and training Sunday School leaders who accept the responsibility to lead the class to minister to the MINISTRY ROLL. We need PICers!!! It is not SUFFICIENT to merely minister to the regular attendees. Although we need to minister to the body as a whole. It is the personal touch of ministry that begins to draw and activate the NON ATTENDING ENROLLEE. Remember, this is our Ministry Roll!
MINISTRY: Identified & Multiplied Why should we MINISTER to them, when they don t even come to our class? A. You perform ministry because CHRIST said to. B. You perform ministry because you have the HEART of Christ. Matthew 20:28 C. If you perform ministry, they just MIGHT start coming. D. Remember many that do not come are lost without Christ.
Evangelism flies farther and faster on the wings of Ministry. David Sharpton
The Importance of our Ministry Roll REASON ENROLLMENT ENROLLMENT is a list of people that we commit to minister to. NOT: A list of people that attend the class. Attendance should be 40% - 60% of our Ministry Roll. Less than 40% of attendance indicates deficiency in care, contacts, ministry and/or assimilation. More than 60% of attendance indicates deficiency in outreach, evangelism, visitation and/or prospect discovery.
The Importance of our Ministry Roll REASON (cont.) ENROLLMENT An incorrect definition and application of enrollment can become a barrier to Sunday School growth. Sunday School exists for those yet to COME. RULES Effective Sunday Schools practice OPEN ENROLLMENT. Anyone can be enrolled, anywhere, anytime as long as they wish to be enrolled.
The Importance of our Ministry Roll RULES (cont.) ENROLLMENT Anyone may be enrolled at any time, even before they visit. No one is removed unless they die, move away from the area, join another church, or request to be removed. They are removed when they can no longer be MINISTERED to. Sunday School members visiting another class are to be listed as guest to your class.
The Importance of our Ministry Roll RULES (cont.) ENROLLMENT Sunday School members moving from class A to class B can only be moved when prompted by class B. First time GUESTS must fill out a guest form in its entirety. (Teachers names must be on these forms) This will list the guest on your Ministry Roll as a prospect. Your class now has accountability for this guest and ministering to them.
The Importance of our Ministry Roll RULES (cont.) ENROLLMENT Returning guest should have their names written down on the last page of the roll until they are enrolled in a class. A class should have as many prospects as they do members on a roll. FAITH is an excellent way of doing outreach and ministry through the Sunday School.
The Importance of our Ministry Roll RESULTS ENROLLMENT MINISTRY needs will be discovered Class and church roles/needs will be filled. Great Commission God s Kingdom will increase. Remember we are Kingdom Builders! Kingdom Builders focus on OTHERS. We will not just be making CONVERTS, we will be making DISCIPLES.
