The Creation of Man and Woman A Choral Reading Girls: God created the entire universe in six days. On the sixth day, God created the land animals and the first people. Boys: God created the first man in a very special way. First, he took some dirt from the ground and molded it into the shape of the man s body. Girls: Then, God blew the breath of life into the man s nostrils, and he became a living person with an immortal soul. God named him Adam. Boys: God made a beautiful garden, called Eden, to be Adam s home. God expected Adam to work in the garden and take care of its trees and plants. Girls: Two special trees grew in the center of the garden. One was the tree of life. The other was the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. God told Adam, All: You are free to eat from any tree in the garden, but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. If you do, you will die. Boys: God brought all the animals and birds to Adam, and Adam gave each one a name. Girls: But Adam realized that there was no creature like himself among them. Then God said, All: It s not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper for him. Boys: So God caused Adam to fall into a deep sleep. Then he took a rib out of Adam s body. Girls: From the rib God made a woman. God brought her to Adam to be his wife. When Adam saw her, he said, Boys: This is now my wife. I will call her woman because she was taken out of man. Girls: In this way God started the first family on earth. God blessed Adam and Eve and told them, All: You will have many children. From your family will come so many children that someday they will fill the whole earth. And every living thing on earth will serve you. Boys: Adam and Eve were happy in their beautiful home. They trusted God. Girls: They knew God loved them, and they loved God and each other. There was no sin in their world. All: Everything was perfect. Praise God Psalm 104, selected verses Something Special for Someone Special One day a delivery man brought a beautiful bouquet of flowers to Joey s mother. She told Joey that the flowers were from his father. So Joey went to his father and asked, Dad, why did you send flowers to Mom today? His dad said, It s our anniversary. I want to show her how much I love her and that I m thankful God sent her into my life. That evening Joey saw that the Academy Awards show was on TV. He asked his mother, What are Academy Awards? Why does God deserve our praise? GRADES 3-4 SS YEAR 2 FALL LESSON 1 THE CREATION OF MAN AND WOMAN COPY MASTER 7.1 2013 Northwestern Publishing House. 11 She answered, They are awards given to people who have made the best movies in the past year. Months later Joey noticed that Father s Day was coming. He thought about all the nice things his father did for him. Joey was thankful God blessed him with such a wonderful dad. He wanted to do something special for his father. Whenever someone is loved, is the best, or deserves praise, we want to do something special for that person. From today s Bible reading, you will find the answer to the question,
Psalm 104, selected verses 1 Praise the LORD, O my soul. O LORD my God, you are very great; you are clothed with splendor and majesty. 5 He set the earth on its foundations; it can never be moved. 14 He makes grass grow for the cattle, and plants for man to cultivate bringing forth food from the earth. 24 How many are your works, O LORD! In wisdom you made them all; the earth is full of your creatures. 27 These all look to you to give them their food at the proper time. 28 When you give it to them, they gather it up; when you open your hand, they are satisfied with good things. 33 I will sing to the LORD all my life; I will sing praise to my God as long as I live. 1. Look at verse 1. Circle the name of the one who is great. 2. The words clothed with splendor and majesty are not talking about real clothes. These words talk about God s glory and power. Read verse 5. What did our powerful God make and set in its place? 3. What creatures did God make to live on the earth? 4. Who created the world? The almighty created the world. 5. Look at verse 14. Name two things God created for the good of people and animals. 6. Who is wise and knows what we need? 7. Tell what God gives to people and animals at the right time. (verse 27) God gives to people and animals at the right time. 8. The last verse tells about one way to praise God. What can we do to praise him? 9. The best reason for praising God is not given in this psalm, but we can read it in many other parts of the Bible. What does the Bible say God has done for us through Jesus? Why does God deserve our praise? God deserves our praise because he the world and continues to provide for people and animals. Words to Treasure Genesis 1:1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. Table Talk Sometimes artists use an open hand coming down from heaven as a symbol to represent God. Why is this a good symbol for God? Psalm 104 praises God for his wisdom, power, and love. Name some things God has done for us because he loves us. When do we thank God for the food he has provided for us? Farmer Weston boasts, I m the one who prepared the field, planted the crop, tended it, sweated over it, and harvested it. I don t see why some farmers thank God for their crops when they are the ones who did all the work. What could we tell Farmer Weston? We do not deserve God s love and help, but he continues to provide for us. We love and thank him! How will we speak about the foods we have, even the ones we do not care for? This Week s Family List 2 Each day we eat many things without thinking about how God has provided that food for us. Look at the ingredients on a loaf of bread or a box of crackers. Discuss where the main ingredients came from, how they were grown, and how God provided that food item for your family. Go to the grocery store to look at all the different kinds of fruits and vegetables God provides for us. Together make a list of the different kinds of produce. Point out that there are many more fruits and vegetables in the world that are not sold in our stores. Discuss how wise and wonderful God is! Visit a zoo and write down the names of the many different animals found there. Select an animal to discuss in detail: what it eats, its God-given physical features and what it uses those features for, and its natural habitat or country. If it is an endangered animal, tell why it may become extinct. Make construction paper place mats for the family to use. Write Thank You, God on them and decorate them with crayons or markers. Then cover the place mats with clear self-adhesive paper. While using the place mats to set the table, discuss what your family will be eating for supper, and thank God for the gift of daily food. The pets we have are creatures God made. Talk about why we want to take good care of pets. Also discuss ways to take care of your family s pet(s). do gether Mural: Display the captions Giver of Life and Sustainer of Life on a wall or bulletin board. Display baby pictures of each person (or baby pictures cut from magazines) underneath the first caption. Draw, paint, or cut out pictures of things God provides for us, and display them under the second caption. Animals, A to Z: Write the letters A to Z in a vertical column. Remind everyone that God created all the animals. Then work together to name one animal that begins with each letter of the alphabet. When done, marvel that God created all 26 of those animals plus many, many more! (Optional) Have each person find a partner and work together to list the 26 animals. Or challenge each pair to find as many animals for each letter as possible. Pizza Fun: Discuss the many different toppings there are for pizza and how glad we are that God has provided them. Then do one or more of the following: Have each person draw a picture of his favorite kind of pizza. (Optional) Cut the pizzas into puzzle pieces. Trade puzzles and assemble them. Make individual pizzas. Use refrigerated biscuit dough for the crust. Flatten the biscuits; then add sauce and your favorite toppings. Draw a very large pizza; then draw lines to make slices, one per person. Have each person decorate one slice with favorite toppings. Then put the pizza back together. Challenge each person to invent and then draw a new kind of pizza. Snack Time: Make a simple-to-prepare snack. Trace each ingredient back to the rain and sun God provided for the plants to grow. The group could then work together to draw pictures of the steps from rain falling to the group eating what they have prepared. Pantomime: On a large sheet of paper (or on a chalkboard), write Praise God, for he created all the animals. Have each person think of an animal to pantomime for the group. As the group guesses each animal, list the animals on the paper (or chalkboard). When each person has had a turn, read the praise sentence together. Research Project: Work in pairs to select a fruit or vegetable, find information about it, and give a brief oral report about it. Encourage creativity: drawings, pictures, displays, videos, taste tests, etc. Word Search Puzzles: Make photocopies of Psalm 104 in its entirety, and give a copy to each person. Have each person find and circle five things God created; then use those words to make his own word search puzzle. (Note: Be sure he includes the list of five words along with the puzzle). Make copies of all the puzzles and distribute them to everyone to solve. Almighty Lord God, each day we see your wonderful world around us, and we are thankful. Thank you for continuing to provide us with all that we need. Thank you most of all for forgiving our sins and giving us life in heaven through Jesus, your Son. Amen. Answers: 1. the LORD, God ; 2. the earth; 3. people, animals; 4. God; 5. grass, plants; 6. the Lord, God; 7. food; 8. sing to the Lord; 9. He forgives our sins through Jesus death and resurrection.
