ONE: But if you have bitter envy and selfish ambition in your hearts, ALL: Do not brag or live in denial of the truth. ONE: Persist in the wisdom of God. ALL: Those who make peace sow the seeds of justice in their actions. First Reading: Psalm 1 1 The truly happy person doesn t follow wicked advice, doesn t stand on the road of sinners, and doesn t sit with the disrespectful. 2 Instead of doing those things, these persons love the LORD s Instruction, and they recite God s Instruction day and night! 3 They are like a tree replanted by streams of water, which bears fruit at just the right time and whose leaves don t fade. Whatever they do succeeds. 4 That s not true for the wicked! They are like dust that the wind blows away. 5 And that s why the wicked will have no standing in the court of justice neither will sinners in the assembly of the righteous. 6 The LORD is intimately acquainted with the way of the righteous, but the way of the wicked is destroyed. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever. Amen. They will kill him. Three days after he is killed he will rise up. 32 But they didn t understand this kind of talk, and they were afraid to ask him. 33 They entered Capernaum. When they had come into a house, he asked them, What were you arguing about during the journey? 34 They didn t respond, since on the way they had been debating with each other about who was the greatest. 35 He sat down, called the Twelve, and said to them, Whoever wants to be first must be least of all and the servant of all. 36 Jesus reached for a little child, placed him among the Twelve, and embraced him. Then he said, 4
