Bounty Land Application for Richard E. Reeves of Henderson Co., Tenn 1852 and 1855 I received a.pdf file of the application by email from Billy Reeves on 20 Jan 2012, who got it from the National Archives Bounty Land Claim Number. (from Rev. War Pension Application): 5486-80-55 SUMMARY: Richard E. Reeves of Henderson County, born about 1789/1790 served in the War of 1812 ["war with the Creek indians," "war with Great Britain"] in the North Carolina Militia under Captain George Lee Davidson and Colonel Jesse Pearson and Col. Richard Adkinson he volunteered sometime in 1813 for 6 months was mustered in at Salsbury, Rowan Co., N.C. on 1 Feb 1814 was discharged at Salsbury 1 Sep 1814 [page 3, 7] He applied for bounty land twice: The first time on 24 May 1852, appointing E. G. Grayson of Washington DC as his agent he was granted 80 acres, which he "legally disposed of" before the second application in 1855 [probably means he sold it] The second time on 28 March 1855, appointing Henry Wright of Lexington Tennessee as his agent He applied for 14 more days of service under a more recent act of Congress [It sounds like congress changed the rules and he was eligible for addtional compensation, possibly for the time he served longer than his 6th month enlistment? Or maybe just because of the rule change.] [application is not clear how much land he received for this application, but the note card with Henry Wright's name on it also lists "80 acres" (whether this refers to the first grant or the second, I don't know.)] ---- TRANSCRIPTION & SUMMARY by Linda Newville, Jan 2012: [notes in brackets [ ] added by Linda Newville] --- page 1: [letter from the archives about image quality] page 2: Index Card The National Archives Bounty Land Files War 1812 Act of: 55-80 Oct[?] 5486 Veteran: Richard E.
