Mother s Day On this Mother s Day, let s think about the following that addresses Motherhood: Dorothy Collins wrote about the experience of helping her son move into his college dorm room on the fourth floor. She repeatedly trudged out to the parking lot to retrieve more stuff and carry it up four flights of stairs. On one of her last trips, one girl yelled out to her from a dorm window above, Hey, Mom. Yo, Mom! Collins was exhausted so she just ignored her until she heard the girl s roommate ask, How do you know that woman is somebody s mom? The girl replied, Who else would do that? (Reader s Digest, April 2001, p. 121) A mother is a person who seeing there are only four pieces of pie for five people, promptly announces she never did care for pie. (Tenneva Jordan, Chicken Soup for the Soul; Christmas Magic, Canfield, Hansen, & Newmark, 2010, p.35) In an interview with the acting duo of Kate Hudson (34) and her mother Goldie Hawn (67), Hawn concluded the time by stating what moms have said for years: You re only as happy as your least happiest child. (Parade, 4/28/13, p.2) The late Charles Shultz, who created the world-renowned comic strip Peanuts, said, A good education is the next best thing to a pushy mother. (Reader s Digest, October 2009, p.195) In an article about parenting, Dr. Juli Slattery noted a conversation where she was asked, How do you know if you re a good mom? The clinical psychologist s reply was simple but profound: I know I m a good mom when I m first a good daughter. She explained, Great mothering begins and ends with a dependence on the daily guidance of my heavenly Father. There will always be seemingly insurmountable challenges to motherhood, but the surest way to excel with your kids is to excel in your relationship with Christ. (Focus on the Family, February 2013, p.3) Proverbs 31: 25-31, She is clothed with strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come. She speaks with wisdom, and faithful instruction is on her tongue. She watches over the affairs of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness. Her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her. Many women do noble things, but you surpass them all. Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised. Give her the reward she has earned, and let her works bring her praise at the city gate. May God bless you Mom! -Bro. Larry
It is our desire for every person to become a disciple of Jesus Christ who loves God and people. We believe this happens best in a biblical community in which people are learning God s Word, sharing the good news of Jesus Christ, ministering to each other, and serving together. At FBC, Sunday School allows you to connect with people in a similar season of life as you seek to live a lifestyle that looks more and more like Jesus. Join us on Sundays at 9 a.m. to find a class that is right for you. For more info, pick up a Sunday School brochure in the vestibule or outside the church office. Questions? Call 205-625-3191 or email cindy@oneontafbc.org. High Attendance Sunday is June 5, so mark your calendars for a day of food, fun and fellowship. There will be lots of great God honoring music, as always great preaching, a covered dish luncheon and a car show. Bring your antique vehicle 25 years old or older. Any 1991 or older vehicles let us check out no matter the condition. No judging - just lots of fun! There will be a moonwalk for the children. We love you and want you in Sunday School. Come and find a class that will fit your needs. People don t care how much you know until they know how much you care. A big SHOUT OUT to our students who showed up Sunday evening for visitation.
