WE IN PRAYER PRAISE NEWS & THE BIBLE WELCOME TO ST ANDREW S ROSEVILLE SUNDAY 16TH SEPTEMBER 2018 ST ANDREW S IN NEWS

All that s going on around St Andrew s FROM THE SENIOR MINISTER REV JOHN DICKSON Senior Minister Dear St Andrew s, The initial response to our new series on Philippians, Public Christianity in Contested Times, has been encouraging both the content and the team-preaching approach we are trying out. For the entire 6-8 week series (at 10am, 5pm, and 7pm), one of the staff will expound the text in a verse-byverse, no-bells-and-whistles manner, before two others join the preacher to discuss the implications of the text and to field your questions. It might not be everyone s preferred method, but I think it is worth testing the approach as another way to learn and heed God s Word. I would welcome your feedback. I also wanted to give a quick update on our building project. Yes, we ve been silent for a while, as the team ponders the best way forward. But things have been progressing. You may recall that Parish Council decided we should stage the development, building parking and a community/ministry centre as soon as we can and, God willing, an enlarged worship space in due course. The estimated cost of the proposed Stage 1 is $9m. The Development Application was lodged last month (it is submitted as a variation on the larger DA we already have approved). Over the last few years, 198 of the 384 households in our church have contributed to the building project. The total cash received is $4.25m, with an additional $2m in pledges. This is slightly higher than last reported, because in June three families offered an extra $350k in cash and pledges. We are deeply thankful for this generosity. The Lord has everything in hand. And we are confident he will continue to bless St Andrew s for the good of Roseville and beyond, to the glory of God. God bless, John PRAYER FOR THE WEEK Lord, let your continual pity cleanse and defend your church, and because it cannot continue in safety without your aid, keep it evermore by your help and goodness; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Pray also for the weekend; that it will be a rich time of fellowship and community building, for safe travelling, and for great weather. 5pm Praise God that Tracey West has a new job at Interserve. Pray that as she begins she will learn the job quickly and be able to use her gifts to further the Kingdom.

All that s going on around St Andrew s COMMUNITY WATCH Praise God for the Baptism of Taraneh last week; a special time for our church to witness and participate in her baptism as we were reminded of God's faithfulness to us and his desire to adopt us as his children. Pray that Taraneh and her family will grow in faith and joy as they continue to walk with the Lord. Youth Praise God for the student welcoming team that is starting at REVIVE. Pray for Courtney Hadden as she leads the welcoming team; that she will help our young people be excited about connecting people into our church family. Pray that our youth will be enthusiastic about serving God in this way. St Andrew s Ministries Thank God for the Life of Jesus Course and for those attending. Pray that it will be a time for each of them to examine the life of Jesus; who he said he was and to consider the significance it has for their lives today. Pray for the Wardens and the Parish Council as they meet regularly. Pray for wisdom as they consider the various matters before them so that as a parish we will glorify God. Other Pray for Roseville Public School Principal Sean Moran, Roseville College Principal Deb Magill and all at St Andrew s who work in schools locally and beyond. Pray for guidance and wisdom for them as they nurture and care for the students at their schools. BRASS CLEANING - CAN YOU HELP? On a regular basis brass items within the church building require cleaning and polishing, important for maintaining these valuable church items. Helpers usually spend approximately 2 hours doing this role in the church. The time commitment per person is a once or twice each year depending on the number of volunteers. Fiona Taylor, from our 5pm congregation, coordinates the brass cleaning and she needs some more helpers. If this is something you could assist with, please contact office@standrews.net.au

All that our missionaries do in and around their communities MISSION & AID JENNY FALLON & DALE WILLIAMS SIM (Serving In Mission) Australia Jenny Fallon is the Pastoral Care and Development Coordinator for SIM in Australia. Praise God for the life of Andrew Strong, an SIM missionary who struggled with brain cancer for 9 years and passed away recently. Thank God for his faithful testimony in Niger and Australia, and pray for his wife Susan and their young adult daughters Kara and Ellie as they grieve. Pray for the search for a new SIM Australia Director and give thanks for the service of Omar Djoeandy in this position over the last 15 years. Pray for the SIM Missionary candidates attending the SIMGo conference in late October; that they will feel adequately oriented and prepared to serve overseas. Pray for Jenny as she assists with the facilitation of this training. Praise God that Jenny and Dale have the privilege of journeying with many missionaries and new candidates. Pray for continuing wisdom as they listen and advise in sometimes difficult situations. Pray for Dale as he has another appointment with the neurosurgeon on 18 September. Pray for helpful and wise decisions about ongoing treatment for his unstable leg, and for healing. Pray for the release of Dr Ken Elliott, abducted over 2.5 yrs ago from Burkina Faso. There is no news of him. Pray for wisdom for SIM as they make decisions affecting the security of workers. Pray particularly for authorities in Burkina Faso as they manage escalating terrorist threats.

All the good things that the Bible teaches us SERMON NOTES

Words you ll need for today s contemporary services CONTEMPORARY SERVICE PRAYERS CONFESSION Most merciful God, we humbly admit that we need your help. We confess that we have wandered from your way: we have done wrong, and we have failed to do what is right. You alone can save us. Have mercy on us: wipe out our sins and teach us to forgive others. Bring forth in us the fruit of the Spirit that we may live as disciples of Christ. This we ask in the name of Jesus our Saviour. Amen. THE LORD S PRAYER Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your Name, your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us. Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For the kingdom, the power, and the glory, are yours now and for ever. Amen. There may be an opportunity for Q&A after the sermon. Questions will be taken from the floor, or can be texted to 0416 874 993.
