April 2018 Newsletter Casting the Nets Again On Sunday April 8, we celebrated Holy Humor Sunday together and had a lot of fun rejoicing in Christ s resurrection! In the midst of all the hilarity, we might have missed one of the messages of the Gospel lesson that day (John 21): Jesus called the disciples to try fishing just one more time even when that direction didn t make any sense. Just a few days after that Gospel reading, our Wednesday and Thursday Bible Study group reflected on the same story. We spent time wondering together, Where is God calling us to cast our nets again? For years now, Living Hope has been investing in children s & youth ministry in our congregation and community. We ve tried ministry in many and various ways. This year, we re trying one more time to cast our nets in the direction we think that God is leading us, and we re investing in a community wide youth ministry opportunity. We hope that this is the effort which God has called us to try, and we are praying that our efforts with other churches will lead to a great catch, so that many middle and high school youth in our church and in our community are impacted by God s love. Some new things are happening soon: We have a chance to do a joint VBS with 4 churches, and maybe as many as 50 kids this summer! New and exciting changes are coming to our Confirmation/ Middle School Ministry. Community Youth Ministry is in planning stages. Please keep all of our leaders, teachers, and young people in your prayers. No matter what ventures God calls us to, Jesus always asks us to Follow Him, and to Feed His Sheep. As a church, we at Living Hope will keep following God s will for our lives and our congregation, and we will work together to feed others with the Word of God. April 2018 Please note the following dates: Thursdays April 5 & 19 Thursdays May 3 & 17 Thursdays June 7 & 21 The Miracle of Mercy Did you know that mercy is God s number one characteristic in the Bible? The world portrays God as a God of anger & judgement. But God shows himself first and foremost as a God of mercy. If mercy is God s number one characteristic that he reveals to us in the Bible if that is the most important thing he wants us to know about him then it must be the most important thing he wants us to learn about Him. And it must also be the most important character trait that God wants to develop in us. Jesus said Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy. Matthew 5:7 Rick Warren will lead us in this six-session study on DVD. He is the founding pastor of Saddleback Church, one of the largest churches in the world and author of The Purpose Driven Life. Please join us as we begin our new DVD study The Miracle of Mercy on Thursday March 15. Knewsy Knotes In the past few years, some of us from Hearts to Hands have had a great time attending the annual Rites of Spring: Fiber Frolic. If you knit, crochet or loom knit, you might be interested in attending this event, exploring the many fiber farms & fiber shops. If you would like to join us, contact Cathy Higgins (414-406-4217) or Julie Irish (262-268-0818). Check out the following websites for more details: Rites of Spring: Fiber Frolic Eastern Central Wisconsin May 4 & 5, 2017 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. May 6, 2017 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. http://www.ritesofspringfiberfrolic.com/ Noon Run Scarf Project Hearts to Hands joined in another successful trip to serve the homeless and impoverished at Redeemer Lutheran Church s Noon Run meal on Tuesday March 13 bearing gifts of 25 more scarves. The scarves were once again tied to the railing in front of the church, tagged with messages of God s love. It didn t take long for the scarves to provide warmth for the recipients. Most scarves were gone within the hour. See the smiles on two proud owners. 5

Remembering His words, Love one another, Hearts to Hands regularly meets to knit and crochet for others while sharing fellowship and devotional time. We continue to meet at church on the 1st & 3rd Thursday of each month. We will share fellowship time at 6:30 PM and begin our study about 7:15 PM followed by prayers, concluding about 8:30 PM. Join us! All are welcome, even if you don t knit or crochet. We encourage you to come, participate in the fellowship and Bible/ devotional study. Please feel welcome to come, share in fellowship and grow in faith. If you are in need of child care in order to attend, please let us know. If you have any other questions, please call Cathy at 414-406-4217 or Julie at 262-268-0818. We look forward to having you join us! Hearts to Hands uses the Living Hope mailbox, #166.
