THIRTIETH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME OCTOBER 25, 2015 A Farewell for Father Michael Ruminski Just as a reminder, all are invited to come to a special Coffee Hour after the 10:30 a.m. Mass, this weekend, to extend best wishes to Father Ruminski as he assumes his new assignment at the end of this month. Again, though his time with us has been brief, we are grateful for his ministry, so, please plan on stopping by! Advent Wreath Making Fr. Robert B. Vargo Pastor Please plan to join the Social Activities Committee and Youth Group after the 10:30am Mass on Sunday, November 15th, in St. Gabriel Church Hall, to make an Advent Wreath. The wreaths and simple decorations will be provided, Advent Candles will be available for $3.00 per set. Advent begins on Sunday, November 29th. Father Vargo would like to encourage every household to bring their Advent Wreath to Mass on either Saturday, November 28th or Sunday, November 29th to be blessed. We collect items for St. Gerard s or diapers for the Windsor Food Bank and it is a sweet idea to collect them in a crib. For easier storage though, it will be great if we had use of a pack n play. Should you have one you no longer need, please consider St. Gabriel for your donation. First Friday Holy Hour Office of the Dead On Friday, November 6 th, there will be exposition and benediction of the Blessed Sacrament at St. Joseph Church from 7:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. During the month of November, we remember those who have died, so during the Holy Hour the Office of the Dead will be prayed. The Office of the Dead is that part of the Liturgy of the Hours appropriated for prayers for the souls of deceased individuals. As part of the Liturgy of the Hours, it is like an extension of the Eucharistic celebration which in a complementary way, calls forth the various devotions of the People of God, especially adoration and worship of the Blessed Sacrament. (Catechism of the Catholic Church, #1178). Praying the Office of the Dead affords us the opportunity to deepen our relation with the Risen Lord by joining with clergy, the religious and other lay people in liturgy, the public prayer of the Church. Copies of the Office of the Dead will be available at St. Joseph Church. 40 Days for Life Thursday, October 29th One Main Street, Hartford 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM Saint Joseph Parish and Saint Gabriel Parish will host a peaceful prayer vigil across from the Hartford Gyn Center at the time and location listed above in recognition of the sanctity of all human life. Volunteers are needed to cover this span of time. Please join other Saint Joseph Church and Saint Gabriel Church parishioners to pray that women choose life. The schedule and sign-up sheets are available in main entrance to the Church. Adult Altar Servers The need for adults, men and women, to assist as altar servers during Mass has increased over the last few years as many of our youth altar servers have become involved in other parish ministries. Altar servers assist the priest and deacon during celebration of the Eucharist and other liturgical services. The major responsibilities of this ministry include: carrying the processional cross, holding the Missal for the celebrant, assisting in the preparation of the gifts of bread and wine, and the ringing of bells during the consecration. Anyone interested should contact St. Gabriel Rectory. A training class will be scheduled for those interested. Rides from Saint Joseph Church to Hartford and back will be available. Do You Believe Program The Adult Faith Formation Program, Do You Believe, will begin again on Wednesday, November 4 th, at 10:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m., in Fr. Doherty Hall of St. Joseph Church. Discussion will begin on the Knights of Columbus booklet, God. New participants are welcomed and are asked to contact St. Joseph Rectory: 860-688-9566 so booklets may be ordered.
