April 2015 The Lions Roar Northridge Lions Club Volume 2015, Issue 10 President s Message Club President Hello Fellow Lions, Spring has finally arrived! With that being said, we have several fundraisers rapidly approaching. Our FAMOUS Pancake and Sausage Breakfast on April 4th from 7:30 AM to 11:30AM. The following week April 10th and 11th, is our District 13-E Convention. We are in charge of the Monte Carlo on Friday night from 8:30 to 10:00. Then on Saturday is an all day event starting at 7:30 AM until 4:00 PM. Then we will be selling Flowers for Mother's Day, more on that later. At the stated Zone Meeting, the weather was in a word LOUSY, three of our members were in attendance. North Hampton kept their gavel. The Guest Speaker, gave a talk about drugs right here in Clark County. She had a sixteen year old son who died from a drug overdose. "One Pill, One Time, NO Second Chance" The motto for Cole's Warriors. Wow what a wake-up call. At our March 25th meeting, we have visitors from the Laura Lions Club. Our guest speakers were two Springfield Township Trustees, Bob Mounts and Jack McKee. They spoke of the snow removal in the Northridge area and of the new and improved Tornado warning sirens. We also had two Clark County Deputies who spoke of the assigned patrols in the Northridge area. We also have the Spring Festival coming the week after Memorial Day, more on that at later date. Lion Secretary Dewey, is in the Springfield Regional Medical Center. Please no visitors at this time. Dewey all our thoughts and prayers go out to you. An Active Club March 11, 2015 we nominate our officers for 2015-2016. After the regular opening ceremonies, we were fed the evening meal prepared by Chef Lion Miller and his band of helpers, Lions Hillard, Bishop and Kenny and HK Jones. Lion Schimmoller conducted the nomination protocol. Reminder: District 13-E Convention will be held on April 10, 11, 2015. Our Club is conducting a Monte Carlo at the convention on Friday April 10 th from 7:30 pm to 10:00 pm. Work sign-up sheet passed among the members. Committee Reports: Pancake Breakfast Lion Schimmoller has the work sign-up sheet for this event. Spring Flowers Lion Paco will have the order forms ready for members at the next meeting. Leo Club Lion Bennett reports that the Leo Club will once again help the Lioness at the Spaghetti Dinner on April 24 th. Head Cooks/helpers Lion Dewey asks for cooks and helpers at the upcoming meetings. No old or new business brought before the members to discuss. Following the raffles, the meeting was adjourned. Board Meets and discusses the future Board Meeting March 18, 2015 With the arrival of Lion Quorum, the meeting was opened by Lion President Geiger. It was noted that Lion Dewey, Secretary, was home ill. Lion Lewis called the roll. Secretary s and Treasurer s reports were read and approved. Committee reports: Entertainment Books Lion Hollingsworth reported that there was a change in the amount of profit the Club would receive for each book sold from last year s 50% profit to the new 25% profit. Lion Hollingsworth asked the Board to consider the loss of revenue in continuing to sell the books, especially since there has been a steady decline in sales over the past few years. The Board discussed the matter and voted to discontinue selling the books. Mowing Schedule Lion Kenny stated that the schedule would be posted very soon. There were no other active committees reporting. As no old or new business was brought forth, Lion Geiger adjourned the meeting after the Board voted to close the meeting. We meet our Deputies March 25, 2015 Tonight we had two visiting Lions from Laura Lions Club, Peggy (Zone 7 Chair) and Gary Myers. Lion Rossitto returned and introduced his daughter. PDG Bill Shoemaker has returned from his Hawaiian adventure. Lion Steve Fifer introduced our guest speakers for the evening, township trustees, Bob Mounts and Jack McKee, Deputy Rick Moody and Deputy Ken Majercak they are assigned to our township full time. Rick has 6 years experience and Ken has 21 years experience. Bob Mounts introduced the deputies. Jack McKee informed us of the new TORNADO warning system. Six (6) new tornado sirens have been installed in our township. The system will be tested the first Monday of every month at noon from April through November. A FEMA grant provided 50% of the cost for the system and the township provided 50%. Jack reported that township residents can sign up for severe weather alerts at the Moorefield Township web site using the Hyper-Link button. (Moorefield Township Ohio) Committee Reports: Spring Flowers (Lion Paco) reports that the order forms are ready for your flower sales. Pancake Breakfast (Lion Schimmoller) a lot of help is needed for the early morning shift. Head Cooks (Lion Lewis) reports that head cooks are needed for April and May. Note: Spring flowers will be delivered on May 6 th.
