The Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ June 3, 2018 I am the living bread that came down from HEAVEN; whoever eats this bread will live FOREVER.
The Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ O n the second Sunday after Pentecost, we celebrate The Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ, which marks our return to Ordinary Time in the liturgical calendar. At one time, this day was called Corpus Christi, the Latin words for the Body of Christ. In the most recent revision of our liturgical rites, the name for this day is expanded to be a more complete reflection of our Eucharistic theology. The Gospel of Mark describes Jesus Last Supper with his disciples as a celebration of the Jewish feast of Passover. The Jewish celebration of Passover is a memorial to and a ritual participation in the defining moment of Israel s history. It celebrates God s deliverance of his people from slavery in Egypt. The Passover meal includes many ritually important elements, such as unleavened bread, lamb, and bitter herbs. Each food item recalls an aspect of the Exodus event. The instructions for the preparation of this meal are carefully prescribed in the Law of Moses. It is a central obligation of the Jewish faith tradition to celebrate this meal and to give thanks to God for his deliverance and protection. The Gospel reminds us that the Eucharist is a memorial of Christ s sacrifice on the cross. We believe that Jesus is truly present to us in the elements of bread and wine. Each time we celebrate this sacrament, we prepare for the Kingdom of God. This celebration, as the Second Vatican Council taught us, is the source and summit of the Christian life. INFORMATIONAL MEETING You are invited to an informational meeting to explore the ministries of Lector and Extraordinary Minister of the Eucharist. When: Monday, June 4th Where: 6301 Prague (Fr. Phil's residence) Time: 7:00 p.m. Please join us to find out more about these important liturgical ministries.

Just think of all that it takes to come to Mass children in tow, arriving with a sense that for one hour there will be peace, only to find this is our child s time to cry! Every parent knows that feeling. Right in the middle of the homily, the consecration, or that moment of silence after communion, our children decide to voice their opinion. Of course, parents don t plan these distractions. Fear not, there is an antidote. When your child screams either in anger, hurt, or play we encourage you to take them out of the gym, our temporary Church. Walk for a bit, share some calming hugs and kisses, and return when your child is calm. God understands your absence for a few minutes. You are not missing Mass by taking your child out for few minutes. Instead, you are exercising a great act of kindness toward your fellow parishioners. We wouldn t let our children scream at the movies, let s not let them scream at Mass. Of course, we can not control their screaming, but when it happens, we do have a simple solution -- going outside with our child to return when all is calmer. As always, we are grateful for every parent and every child including infants and toddlers. Jesus continues to tell us to let the children come unto me. So do not let this word of encouragement discourage you from joining us for Mass.
