BECOMING AWARE Insofar as here and there, and now and then, God s kingly will is being done in various odd ways among us even at this moment, the Kingdom has come already. Insofar as all the odd ways we do God s will at this moment are at best half-baked and halfhearted, the Kingdom is still a long way off a hell of a long way off, to be more precise and theological ~Frederick Buechner, Wishful Thinking RINGING OF THE SANCTUS BELL Some traditions ring Sanctus Bells to call worshippers attention to the holy. (Sanctus means holy or sacred. ) Today, the Sanctus Bell rings to signify the holy around, among, and within us. PRELUDE Prelude in G Major, BWV 541 J.S. Bach INTROIT Gather Round Now arr. Billy Barnes Chorus: Gather round now, all God s children Come from east and come from west. All are welcome in God s presence, God s the one who knows us best. Grandma, Grandpa, little children, Jesus beckons to us all, be alert now, ye believers, for the sweet sound of his call. We are one body, here together, filled with hope and grateful praise. Hear our prayers now, precious Lord, and the soul-full songs we raise. THE MORNING PRAYER & OUR LORD S PRAYER Our Mother Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our sins, as we forgive those who sin against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen. ANTHEM At the Name of Jesus Ralph Vaughan Williams At the name of Jesus every knee shall bow, every tongue confess him King of glory now; 'tis the Maker s pleasure we should call him Lord, who from the beginning was the mighty Word. At God s voice creation sprang at once to sight: all the angel faces, all the hosts of light, thrones and dominations, stars upon their way, all the heavenly orders in their great array. Humbled for a season, to receive a name from the lips of sinners, unto whom he came; faithfully he bore it spotless to the last, brought it back victorious when from death he passed; bore it up triumphant, with its human light, through all ranks of creatures, to the central height, to the throne of Godhead, to the Maker's breast, filled it with the glory of that perfect rest. Name him, Christians, name him, with love strong as death; but with awe and wonder, and with bated breath; He is God the Saviour, He is Christ the Lord; Ever to be worshipped, trusted, and adored. In your hearts enthrone him; there let him subdue all that is not holy, all that is not true. Look to him, your Savior, in temptations' hour; let his will enfold you in its light and power. Christians, this Lord Jesus shall return again, with his Maker's glory o'er the earth to reign; for all wreaths of empire meet upon his brow, and our hearts confess him King of glory now. SERMON Whose Reign? Marcus McFaul SILENT REFLECTION GIVING OFFERING OUR GIFTS OFFERTORY I Want Jesus to Walk With Me/ The Old Time Just a Closer Walk with Thee Gospel Band The texts are those of hymns 627 and 557. * DOXOLOGY Please sign with the leader or simply sing.
