Confirmation Reception following the 5:30 pm Mass in the Family Life Center. Welcome to Holy Spirit s Confirmation program. Your faith journey now brings you to the Sacrament of Confirmation. Confirmation offers a special challenge to spread the faith by both word and action and to strive to live as a true witness of Christ. The Sacrament of Confirmation is a new beginning. You are choosing to be a Disciple of Christ. Think of Confirmation like getting your drivers license. You are now making decisions, fueled by the Holy Spirit, where and in what direction your faith life is going. At Confirmation, you recommit to participate in the Church s work and mission. The incredible mission to hand on the teaching of Christ and to make more disciples. Being sealed with the seven gifts of the Holy Spirit at Confirmation strengthens you for service in the Body of Christ, in the Church and in the world. By choosing to be confirmed, you are saying that you desire and are willing to make a lifelong commitment to serve as Jesus did. Take this time to challenge yourself to be the person that God wants you to be. Discern why you hesitate to make good decisions or choices. Consider God s mission for your life, God s desire for you is beyond your greatest dream if only you follow His path. The Holy Spirit is powerful and can radically change your life if you simply allow the grace of the Sacrament of Confirmation to really transform you. May God continue to Bless You! Deacon Bob Gregerson

To be permitted to take on the function of Confirmation Sponsor a person: Must be a practicing Catholic: who has received the Sacraments of Initiation: Baptism, the Eucharist and Confirmation, leads a life of faith and is at least 16 years old. Sponsor Forms Due by March 21st. We require a Sponsor form from each Confirmation Sponsor if they are not parishioners of Holy Spirit. Sponsor forms may be obtained from your Sponsor's parish office. Just tell them they are going to be a Confirmation Sponsor and they will know what you need. Bring these forms to Deacon Bob at class or drop them off at the Holy Spirit Parish office. Sponsor forms must be turned in on or before Class on Wednesday March 21st. If you have any questions or trouble with the sponsor forms please contact Deacon Bob. Proxy Sponsor (Stand-in) In the event your Confirmation Sponsor can not be present at the Confirmation Mass on April 14th, the church allows for the use of a proxy sponsor or someone who stands in for your sponsor. The proxy sponsor must meet all the church requirements for a Confirmation Sponsor.

Sacramental Records. All confirmation candidates need to turn in a copy of their sacramental records by Wednesday, March 14th. If you were baptized at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, I will look your records up. If you have your Baptismal certificate and your First Communion certificate, bring these certificates to class and I will make copies of them and return the originals to you. If you do not have these records, Baptismal certificates with notations are available from your child s church of Baptism. Call and ask the parish office for a Baptismal certificate with notations and they will send it to you. Notations include your First Communion date. Saint Name. Saint names are due on or before March 21st. During the Rite of Confirmation, you will be called by your saint s name. The Church invites you to keep the Saint name given to you at Baptism, as Confirmation is the fullness or completion of the Sacrament of Baptism. You may also choose the name of a particular saint who has inspired you on your faith journey. You will need to select a saint and know their history, including their virtuous attributes which caused the Catholic Church to honor them with the title Saint. Choose a saint whose life experience you admire. Begin by researching what a saint is in the eyes of the Catholic Church. Ask yourself, what do I admire about this saint s life? What cause is this saint famous for? This saint s name should be the Confirmation name that you adopt. Attendance. Due to the Confirmation schedule this year, candidates may not have any unexcused absences. Please contact me in advance if you are going to miss a class. Prayer for the Seven Gifts of the Holy Spirit Lord Jesus Christ, before ascending into heaven, You promised to send the Holy Spirit to Your apostles and disciples. Grant that the same Spirit may perfect in my life, the work of Your grace and love. Grant me the Spirit of Wisdom that I may aspire only after the things that are eternal; the Spirit of Understanding to enlighten my mind with the light of Your divine truth; the Spirit of Knowledge that I may know You and know myself, and grow perfect in the sight of the saints; the Spirit of Counsel that I may choose the surest way of doing Your will, seeking first the Kingdom of Heaven; the Spirit of Fortitude that I may bear my cross with You and, with courage, overcome the obstacles that interfere with my salvation; the Spirit of Piety that I may find peace and fulfillment in the service of God; Grant me the Spirit of Fear of the Lord that I may be filled with a loving reverence toward You, and may dread in any way to displease You. Mark me, dear Lord, with the sign of Your true disciples and animate me in every way with Your Spirit. Amen.
