Our Presenters Tuesday 8:30 a.m. Salon E-H Hezekiah and the Assyrian Problem The late 8th Century BC was a troubled time for small independent kingdoms beyond the eastern shores of the Mediterranean. When Hezekiah inherited the Judahite throne from his father Ahaz, he dreamed of restoring the Davidic glory to Jerusalem. What would it take? Religious reform? Good administration? Trust in God? In a rare confluence of Bible, ancient inscriptions, archaeology, and Assyrian art reliefs, we can recount the audacious attempt of Hezekiah to push back the greatest military power of the day. Tuesday 10:15 a.m. 2:15 p.m. (Repeated) Salon B Illustrating the Bible Through Archaeology Archaeology reveals the world in which the stories of the Bible unfolded. It provides the framework within which the details of the Bible make sense. Sometimes archaeological discoveries relate to individual characters or Biblical narratives, but more often archaeology illuminates that foreign country which is the past. We will explore the ways archaeology intersects with Scripture and look at examples where archaeology sheds new light on Biblical people, places, and things. Monday 10:15 a.m. and 2:15 p.m. (Repeated) Salon B The Separation of Church and Hate: Why Kindness Matters We live in an increasingly divided age where political parties refuse to dialogue and govern for the common good; where cultural issues become incendiary weapons that inspire conflict and confrontation; where religion is mocked for its inability to effect change; where war is touted as the best way to resolve differences, and where many churches manifest the same divisions and hatreds within their own ranks that are in the world. Is it any wonder that so many don t believe in God? Discover how your church can be salt and light in a bland and darkened age.
