B L U E R I D G E E M M A U S Jul-Sep 2014 Emmaus / Chrysalis Summer Picnic We are excited to announce that on Saturday July 12th from 3-6 pm our communities will come together at Camp Tekoa in Hendersonville for an afternoon of fellowship and fun. The lake will be avail- able for us to use, so bring your swimsuits. Hot dogs will be provided and we ask that you bring your fa- vorite side dish, dessert and/or drink to share. We look forward to this time to come together as ONE community for the common purpose of bringing folks closer to Christ. This is a family event so please bring your children and grandchildren to take part in this day. So we can get an idea of how many hot dogs to prepare please either RSVP to Becca Miller rgf557@gmail.com or look for an event on Facebook to RSVP. Happy Independence Day! Although many gave their lives for our freedom, only One gave his life for our sin...

Page 3 C h r y s a l I s o r n e r One of the biggest blessings that I have received from Chrysalis is the Emmaus community. That may sound strange but let me tell you a little of my story. I went through my Chrysalis Flight 10 years when I was 17. I had never been in a room filled with so many different people where I didn t know anyone (Sound Familiar?). Over the weekend I learned 3 things: 1) That God truly loved me despite of my actions. 2) That Chrysalis/Emmaus was one of the best pictures of the body of Christ that I had ever seen in my life. And 3) That this group of dedicated men (+ 1 woman) were not just crazy, but they were Crazy For Christ! Over the last 10 years I have had the overwhelming opportunity to serve on many teams with men that are sold out for Christ and have left a deep impact on my spiritual life. I have heard marriage talks from couples that I still reference in my own marriage. There have been servers that have come and taught me the value of true servanthood and what it looks like to be a secret server and serve with a humble heart. The prayer chapel has been a place where men and women have prayed their hearts out and left a legacy of a deep prayer life on me. I have served beside men and women on the board that have called out leadership; they are not there just to support a program, but they are there to proclaim Christ! There is one thing that these people have in common: They are from Emmaus. Chrysalis is not just a place that you can send your children or grandchildren to have a similar experience as you, but it is a place that you can be involved. Chrysalis needs you. We don t need you because we just need more people, we need you because older men and women leave impacts of Godly lives on high school and college age youth. We need you because you have walked through more and you can speak with more wisdom. Your faith in God is strong and you can help bring a generation to an authentic walk with Christ. To become great men and women of God, we need to follow right behind great men and women. Just like Emmaus, there are many different ways to serve in our community. From logistics to serving on a team, we are open and ready to see lives changed because of our intergenerational commitment that we have between the communities. If you have never served before or haven t served in a while, please contact me at 828-712-4237 or hallelujah87@gmail.com and I will be happy to assist you in finding a good place to serve. Study Page 5 Impressions from Walk #72 I have been thinking about the Emmaus experience since I left Bonclarken Sunday afternoon. It is an experience that I don't want to forget. The genuine love that was given to each of us from the Emmaus community is overwhelming. Experiencing this kind of love has made me ask myself the following question. If people can love one another in such a beautiful way, how much love does God have for each of us? Thank you for creating an unforgettable experience. Sandy Summey, Walk # 72, table of Sarah I can only repeat what I said at Closing: I went to Emmaus for one MAIN reason : to follow my husbands' walk and be a part of what he had experienced. What I actually experienced was total love and that was only Friday. It got better every hour, topped off by Saturday and Sunday services. I am blessed Thank you all and I will serve where you need me. Mary Reeves, Walk #72, Table of Elizabeth Lessons from a Walk for a balanced Christian life... L I G H T F O R T H E J O U R N E Y Page 6 It s Summertime! Good Day B.R.E. Community. Summer is now upon us and it seems like only yesterday we were gearing up for our second Emmaus walk of 2014 at Bonclarken!! I would first like to again welcome the newest members to our Community, the ladies of Walk #72. I am praying (and hoping) for a couple of things. First, that your Fourth Days have been blessed and that you have returned to your families, churches and work places fired up with what the Emmaus Walk meant to you! Second, as I mentioned in the closing ceremonies, we would love for you to come back and serve with us for the Men s Walk #73 in November. You will truly be blessed!! Sponsoring, Prayer Chapel, Dining Room, Kitchen and Prayer Vigil are just a few areas of service. Also, plan on attending the Emmaus/Chrysalis gathering at Camp Tekoa on July 12th for a great time of celebration and fun...and definitely some good food. And, to all the Emmaus Family, stay connected through your reunion groups and have a great summer, stay safe and don t forget your sunscreen!! Peace in Christ!! DeColores Carl Marvin Mt. Top #40, Table of Peter From the Registrar The next men s Walk is November 13-16, 2014 and the next women s Walk is February 19-22, 2015. We already have 10 registered for each and there are only 4 months to go for the Men s walk and 7 months for the Women s. The last several Walks have been full with several carried over to the next Walk. This is very discouraging for the Pilgrims who are wait-listed. Don t let your Pilgrim be delayed. Get your Applications turned in now. This will help us schedule more Walks and the average waiting time between Application and each Walk will be reduced. Answers to History Quiz from page 2 1) Lake Junaluska 2) Pisgah View Ranch 3) Crest 4) Christmont 5) Camp Tekoa 6) Blue Ridge Assembly 7) Ridgecrest 8) Camp Dorothy Walls 9) Bonclarken The following board positions are currently open: Volunteer Coordinator tracks, records and maintains records for all volunteer efforts in the community, especially those efforts at the walks. Helps coordinate when and where volunteers are needed and utilized. Our board meets generally once a month usually for no more than two hours. Service is expected to be a three year term, but job responsibilities may be changed as needs arise and the Board Chairperson sees the need. Board officers (Chairperson, Vice-Chairperson, Treasurer and Secretary) are elected by the board on an annual basis.

Page 8 Meet Some 2014 Emmaus Board Members Secretary: Terrie Scarboro DeColores! I am Terrie Scarboro. My journey began in 1981 as a member of Groce United Methodist Church. Under the leadership of Lewis Gibbs, my husband and I were encouraged to take our walk on Cursillo where we walked together at Valle Crusis, North Carolina in 1981. We were on walk #9 and I was at the table of John. After my walk, I served on team for many years. Having been on Lay Witness Missions, this became yet another vessel of being the hands and feet of Christ. My reunion group has been a Bible Study group which has met together for around 30 years. I am a native to Asheville, was born at St. Joseph Hospital and have worked at (now) Mission for 41 years. My nursing career has was spent almost entirely in the PACU, and now is in the Informatics department for the last 13 or so years. I am married to a wonderful, Godly man (Rick), and in November, will celebrate our 40 th anniversary. Registrar: Irv Hendricks Hi Everybody in the Emmaus Community! My name is Irv Hendricks, Blue Ridge Emmaus Walk # 42, Table of Mark. I am the Registrar of the Blue Ridge Emmaus Community; which means that I get to spend time with all of the people who are going to Walk and their Sponsor s. What a blessing! As each application comes in, it is evaluated for completeness and all problems are resolved by discussion with the Sponsor. The information is entered in the database for the particular Walk requested and that becomes the base for Table Assignments, Room Assignments, Name Tag Assembly, Information Packet Assembly, Agape Letter Envelopes and many other needs. I do not do this alone but with assistance of many other people including Robin Royal and the Reunion Group of which she is a member, Carol Ruminski and her reunion Group, Theresa Johns, Jean Nesbitt and the Assistant Registrar, Merit Wolfe. A few years ago, I was part of the BRE Board Search Team. As I participated in that effort, God put it on my heart that I could make an important contribution to Blue Ridge Emmaus, if I volunteered for this position, so I did. Since then, I have discovered how much joy there is in being the hands and feet of God here on Earth. There are many ways to serve God, but this certainly is one of the best! I pray that shortly we will have four walks per year and that each of those walks is full. We are part of the way there. All of the recent walks have been full. The future looks very bright and we have four walks scheduled for 2015.
