Welcome to the Jesus n Me lesson Jesus is the Way / Lost Lamb This Jesus n Me lesson is packed with activities and crafts, and even a game, to make it fun for everyone. A Talk Time is included to help children understand the significance of the Bible story; and step-by-step instructions are included to make preparation easy and quick for you. I hope you are greatly blessed in using these resources, and pray that the children in your care come to know the Lord Jesus Christ on a personal level. If you have any questions or comments, feel free to contact My Bible Crafts: http://mybiblecrafts.com/contactmybiblecrafts.html How to Use the Jesus n Me Lessons Save the two PDF files that are attached to the email (a black-and-white file and a color file) to your computer. You are also permitted, and encouraged, to make one backup copy onto an external drive or thumb drive (usb flash drive). Saving Tips: You can skip the color-illustrated pictures, and just use black-and-white pictures (and color them yourself or have teens help). To save even more on printing, use a laser jet printer, instead of an inkjet printer for the black-and-white pages; then print the color-illustrated pictures using a color Inkjet printer. Copy the pictures using a black and white, or color photocopier, respectively. (I would advise against using pages printed from an inkjet printer for children's crafts, as these inks can come off. The chemicals in the inks may pose a safety concern. Make copies that are to be used for children's crafts on a copy machine instead). Copyright Info: These resources are not permitted to be shared (in person or electronically), uploaded to any website or blog, copied for any uses other than for one local preschool or one local church, nor are they to be distributed, nor sold. Refer to the full terms and conditions of use for allowable uses of the My Bible Crafts resources: http://mybiblecrafts.com/terms/mybiblecrafts-terms-and-conditions.html Safety Tips For Using Crafts With Young Children Keep scissors out of the reach of young children. Keep all glue caps, marker caps and other small items out of reach of children, age 3 or under, as they are a choking hazard. Use nontoxic washable markers only. Watch young children when they are using crayons to be sure they don't put them into their mouths. Have an emergency plan in place in case of injury, ie, someone trained in First Aid procedures, emergency phone numbers on hand, etc. This is not a complete list of safety tips. Consult safety or First Aid manuals for specifics. Intro: Jesus told a story once to help us understand how much he loves us. It s the story about a little lost sheep. (Read Matthew 18:12-14). Let s take a closer look of what it might be like for the shepherd who lost his sheep. (Shepherd puppet) The shepherd had 100 sheep. He would take them out to the pasture every day to eat the grass there, then bring them back home to the sheep pen in the evening. All the sheep would follow their shepherd back home. When they got back home, he had to count them to make sure they were all there. He counted them as they entered the pen: 1 2 3 He got all the way up to 97 98 99... Uh-oh. One was missing. He must ve counted wrong. So he counted again, all the way up to 97 98 99 Oh no! One is missing! Where s the little one? Where s Fleecy? Fleecy sometimes liked to wander off the path. He must ve got lost on his way home! The shepherd would always get very upset if even one sheep was lost. The shepherd loved his sheep, and he wanted all of them to be safe at home with him. So the shepherd left the other 99 sheep to go out and look for the one lost one -- Fleecy. Fist he went to the left. Fl-e-e-c-y! ( Walk shepherd to the left and look behind the table). Fleecy was not there. Then he went to the right. Fl-e-e-c-y! ( Walk shepherd to the right and look behind the table). Fleecy wasn t there either. Oh, no! Where could Fleecy be? By now he was getting very worried. ( Run shepherd frantically back and forth). Fle-e-ec-y! Fle-e-ec-y! Where could Fleecy be? (Shepherd comes back and stands in the middle). Ba-a-a-a! B-a-a! I hear something! Ba-a-a-a! B-a-a! (Shepherd looks down behind the table). Fl-e-e-c-y? (Fleecy peeks up over the table). Ba-a-a-a! There he is! When the shepherd found Fleecy, he was so happy! He picked up his little sheep and hugged him. (Stick Fleecy behind shepherd s arm). Then he joyfully carried him all the way home! He was so happy that when he got home he told all his friends that he found his little lost sheep! And after Jesus told that story, he told us that, in the same way, God and his angles in heaven are so happy when one sinner turns from their sin and follows Jesus, the Great Shepherd!

Jesus is the Way, p. 2 That s right. Jesus is the Great Shepherd. Did you know that? And he thinks of his followers as his sheep. Here s what Jesus said in John 10:14. (Read verse). He loves us so much that he wants us to know him and follow him, like sheep follow their shepherd. (Sheep and shepherd puppets). He doesn t want us to be like the lost sheep who couldn t find his way home. Jesus didn t want his disciples to be like the lost sheep either, so one day he told them how they could get to Heaven. He wants us all to know the way to Heaven, so we can be with him some day. Here s what happened: (Peter picture) Before Jesus left his disciples to go back to heaven, Jesus told his disciples that he would only be with them a little bit longer. He told them he was going away. But Peter didn t want to be away from Jesus, so he asked Jesus, Lord, where are you going? I want to go with you! Jesus said, You can t come with me right now, but later you will come. So the disciples were sad. But Jesus said, Don t let your heart be sad. If you believe in God, believe in me too. I m going there to make a special place for each of you in my Father s house! Then, I ll come back and take you with me, so you can be there with me too! You know the way. (Thomas picture). But the disciples didn t understand. Thomas spoke up and said, Lord, we don t know where you re going, so how can we know the way? But Jesus loved his disciples. He wanted them to know the way, so Jesus explained it to them. (Read John 14:6). But the disciples still didn t understand. They thought Jesus was going some place down here on earth. But, Jesus was talking about the way to heaven (Point up), where God, his Father, lives. That was Jesus home. And that s where he wants every one of us to live someday after we die. (Heaven picture) It s a place where there are no tears and no sin! There are no mean people and no sad faces! Everybody is happy. (Point to pictures as you say them). A place where there is peace and joy. Everyone sings praises to God! That s where Jesus was going soon. He was going home to be with his Father! (Sheep and shepherd, unattached) When Fleecy was lost, he didn t know the way home. He needed his shepherd, didn t he? He couldn t find his way home on his own. His shepherd was the way home. (Stick Fleecy in Shepherd s arms). It s the same for us. We need our shepherd. Jesus is the Great Shepherd. Jesus is the way to God and heaven. I ll explain. (Heaven is not picture) The faces in these pictures show us what people look like when there are things like sin and pain; and guilt and sadness and punishment. I don t like that stuff. (Heaven picture) I like the picture about heaven much better. It shows joy, peace, and eternal life all the good stuff that heaven is about! Jesus is the way to these things. Transition: Let s have snack. Then we ll talk about Jesus and God and heaven some more.

Jesus is the Way, p. 3 Talk Time: (Game Board and Kid game pieces) This is a game that will help us learn. Before we play, I need to explain some things. Up here represents Heaven, where God lives. (Point to heaven). God is holy. That means he never sins. He never does anything wrong. In order to be up in heaven with God, we have to be holy too that means that we have no sin. (Point to kids) The problem is, we do sin! We don t always love God, and we don t always love others. We sin in all sorts of ways like lying, stealing, or being mean to others. (Write sin and a few of those on the chalkboard). So how do we get rid of our sin so we can be up in Heaven with God after we die? (Point to Heaven). Remember what Jesus said? Jesus told us the way. He said I am the way. I ll explain. A long time ago, God set up a way for the people in Bible Times to be forgiven. He said that something has to die to pay for people s sins. (Point to words on chalkboard). So, an animal was killed and burned on an altar. The innocent animal was punished instead of the people. Then God forgave the people for the things they did wrong. He forgave their sin and wiped it away. (Wipe away all words on chalkboard). So then they had no more sin. Then God saw them as being holy. Then they could go to heaven. (Cross) Then God sent Jesus, his only Son, to die on the cross for all people s sins. (Write sin on chalkboard again). Jesus never did anything wrong. He never sinned. But Jesus was punished for our sins, instead of us. (Point to Kid game pieces) Jesus loved us so much that he was willing to suffer and die on the cross, so that our sins could be forgiven. (Girl/Boy by Cross) That s right. Jesus died for sins and. (say the name of each person in the classroom, including teens and adults). When Jesus died on the cross for us, he took the punishment for all of our sins. So if we believe in Jesus, then God doesn t count our sin against us! When we admit our sin and ask him to forgive us, he does because Jesus took our sin away! Then, when our sin is wiped away because of what Jesus did for us (Wipe Sin off chalkboard), then God sees us as being holy. No more sin! That s the way we can go to heaven and be with God some day! That s why Jesus is the way to God. Jesus made it possible for us to get to heaven and live forever with him and with our awesome Heavenly Father, after we die! Transition: Let s play the game and we will learn more as we play.

Can you find the angel on the game? (Show a child the angel. Child chooses a Kid Game Piece and puts it on the Angel path). If someone tells you get to heaven by being good, is that how they get to heaven? What if someone thinks they are already good enough, and they don t need Jesus forgiveness. Will they get to heaven that way? Let s see. (Have another child move the Kid Game Piece through the maze on the Angel path). Nope. That s not the way to heaven. No matter how hard we try not to sin, we all do sin, so we can t get to heaven just by being good. We need forgiveness. Let s keep playing. Can you find the dollar sign on the game? (Show child the picture. Child chooses a Kid Game Piece and places it on the Money path). If someone has lots of money, or power, or if they are famous or beautiful, will any of those things get them into heaven? Let s see what happens. (Have another child move the Kid Game Piece through the maze on the Money path). No. That way is blocked. That s not the way to heaven. You can t buy a ticket to heaven. It doesn t matter to God if you re famous or beautiful either. And no one is powerful enough to get themselves into heaven either. Let s keep playing the game. Can you find this picture on the game? (Show child picture. Child chooses a Kid Game Piece and puts it on the Smart path). What if someone is really smart or has lots of ideas? Do you think they could just figure out how to get to heaven at the right time? Let s watch and find out. (Have another child move the Kid Game Piece through the maze on the Smart path). Uh-oh. That way didn t lead to heaven. No. Even if we are really smart, nobody is smart enough to get into heaven on their own. That s not the way to heaven. So how do we get to heaven? Let s keep going. Can you find the cross on the game? (Show child the cross. Child takes the last Game Piece, and puts it on the Cross path. How about if someone believes that Jesus loves them so much that he died on the cross to pay for all the wrong things they do? What if they accept that Jesus took the punishment that they deserve? Let s see what happens when they ask God to forgive them because of what Jesus did for them? (Have another child move the Kid Game Piece through the maze on Cross path). Yea! That s the way to heaven Jesus! By believing that Jesus died for your sins and trusting God to forgive you because of what Jesus did! There is no other way to the Father in heaven! Only by trusting in Jesus to save you.
