What You Need: Play bread (20) and plush fish (20), and two baskets Before the Activity: Spread the play bread and plush fish all over the floor in the activity area. Place the baskets in the middle of the area next to a volunteer to ensure they are not picked up by the children. During the Activity: Challenge the children to go around the room and pick up all the bread and fish and place them in the baskets. Continue the activity until all of the food has been picked up. After the Activity: Repeat the activity several times and challenge the children to see if they can pick up the fish and bread at a faster pace. (For older children: Challenge the children to sort the fish and bread into two separate baskets.) Before the Activity: There is food EVERYWHERE! (Hold out arms and spin around.) Today in our lesson we learned that Jesus can do hard things. He made sure that all the people had fish and bread to eat when they were hungry. I see a lot of fish and bread on the floor. Can you help me pick up all the fish and bread and place it in these two baskets? During the Activity: Let s get started. (Allow the children to do the activity.) Great job! I love how you are all working together. Now let s try it again and see if we can do it even faster! (Repeat several more times.) After the Activity: Great job! That was hard work! During the Activity: Let s practice those numbers as we move. First, jump two times. (Pause.) Now jump five times. (Pause.) Great job, everyone! (Repeat with other movements.) After the Activity: That was fun. Great job counting out your twos and fives, friends! Can you believe that Jesus fed a whole crowd of people with one small lunch of two fish and five loaves? February Weeks 1 and 2 ACTIVITY 3 - All Pass the Bread Memory Verse Children will practice their memory verse while playing a game similar to Hot Potato but with toy bread instead of a potato. What You Need: Large Toy Bread Before the Activity: Gather the children in an open area of the room and direct them to sit down in a circle close to one another. Say the verse with the children. During the Activity: Pass the bread around the circle, randomly saying, STOP, each round. When you say, STOP, the child holding the bread will move to the center of the circle and say this month s memory verse with the volunteers for the first round. When you finish saying the verse, you will start the game again but this time when you say stop, child #1 (who remained in the center of the circle) and child #2 will say the memory verse together with the volunteers. Continue passing, calling STOP, and repeating this month s memory verse until all the children are inside the circle and saying the memory verse together. Before the Activity: Let s practice our Memory Verse for this month. Can you please say it with me? (Pause.) With God all things are possible, Matthew 19:26. Awesome! Let s try it again! Now let s sit down so we can talk about our lesson today. One, two, three, sit down with me! Jesus did something in our lesson today that would have been way too hard for us to do. CHILDREN and SGL: Jesus can do anything! SGL: Now it s time to pray. Let s sit down together. Today we are going to make a list of our favorite foods since our story was about Jesus feeding so many people. When we pray we can use our list to thank God for giving us so many yummy things to eat. Sound good? (Pause.) I think so too! Get ready! When I say your name, tell me one of your favorite foods. Ok, it s time to review our lesson. I am going to ask you some questions and you will get a sticker for answering them. I have some really cool stickers today. Are you ready? (Pause.) Great! (Ask the children the questions from the Parent Take Home Cards. You can also make up additional questions from our video lesson. Don t forget to ask them to say their memory verse for another sticker. You can repeat the same questions over and over as repetition is good for preschoolers.) You are such great listeners! Now I ll pray before it s time to say goodbye until next week.
