We gather in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen Call to Worship Family of God, let us turn our hearts to God and seek forgiveness, life, and hope. God of grace, In sin we turn to ourselves and do not live according to your will. We end up in places of death, and we strive for power. We lust for our own dreams instead of looking to your will in this world. In the power of your Holy Spirit, we turn to your Son, Jesus, and we seek forgiveness. Lord, have mercy on us, save us from our sin. Children of God, you are beloved and precious in the eyes of our God. Because of Jesus Christ you are adopted into the family of God and forgiven. You are saved by grace. We are loved and saved. Praise God! 3

Lesson Galatians 3:15-22 Brothers and sisters, I give an example from daily life: once a person s will has been ratified, no one adds to it or annuls it. Now the promises were made to Abraham and to his offspring; it does not say, And to offsprings, as of many; but it says, And to your offspring, that is, to one person, who is Christ. My point is this: the law, which came four hundred thirty years later, does not annul a covenant previously ratified by God, so as to nullify the promise. For if the inheritance comes from the law, it no longer comes from the promise; but God granted it to Abraham through the promise. Why then the law? It was added because of transgressions, until the offspring would come to whom the promise had been made; and it was ordained through angels by a mediator. Now a mediator involves more than one party; but God is one. Is the law then opposed to the promises of God? Certainly not! For if a law had been given that could make alive, then righteousness would indeed come through the law. But the scripture has imprisoned all things under the power of sin, so that what was promised through faith in Jesus Christ might be given to those who believe. WE INVITE CHILDREN TO DOCK AT THIS TIME Please make sure your child is wearing a nametag with name and grade level. ************* See FRONT OF INSERT for Pickup Locations ************** Hymn Immortal, Invisible To all, life thou givest, to both great and small; In all life thou livest, the true life of all; We blossom and flourish like leaves on the tree, And wither and perish, but naught changeth thee. Psalm 1:1-3 Read in unison: Blessed are those who do not follow the advice of the wicked, or take the path that sinners tread, or sit in the seat of scoffers; but their delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law they meditate day and night. They are like trees planted by streams of water, which yield their fruit in its season, and their leaves do not wither. In all that they do, they prosper. st. denio 5
Anthem The Last Words of David Holy Gospel John 1:14-18 Glory to you, O Lord. And the Word became flesh and lived among us, and we have seen his glory, the glory as of a father s only son, full of grace and truth. (John testified to him and cried out, This was he of whom I said, He who comes after me ranks ahead of me because he was before me. ) From his fullness we have all received, grace upon grace. The law indeed was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ. No one has ever seen God. It is God the only Son, who is close to the Father s heart, who has made him known. Praise to you, O Christ. Apostles Creed I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord. He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into hell. On the third day he rose again. He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen 6 He that ruleth over men must be just, Ruling in the fear of God. And he shall be like the light of the morning when the sun rises, Even a morning without clouds, Like the tender grass springing out of the earth, By clear shining after rain. Alleluia. 2 Samuel 23:3-4 Randall Thompson St. Andrew s Choir and Orchestra
