WE GATHER IN CHRIST S NAME PRELUDE ORDER FOR CONFESSION AND FORGIVENESS All may make the sign of the cross, the sign marked at baptism, as the presiding minister begins. P: In the name of the Father, and of the + Son, and of the Holy Spirit. C: Amen. P: Almighty God, C: to whom all hearts are open, all desires known, and from whom no secrets are hidden: cleanse the thoughts of our hearts by the inspiration of your Holy Spirit, that we may perfectly love you and worthily magnify your holy name, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. P: If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. But if we confess our sins, God who is faithful and just will forgive our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. P: Most merciful God, C: we confess that we are captive to sin and cannot free ourselves. We have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, by what we have done and by what we have left undone. We have not loved you with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. For the sake of your Son, Jesus Christ, have mercy on us. Forgive us, renew us, and lead us, so that we may delight in your will and walk in your ways, to the glory of your holy name. Amen. P: In the mercy of almighty God, Jesus Christ was given to die for us, and for his sake God forgives us all our sins. As a called and ordained minister of the church of Christ, and by his authority, I therefore declare to you the entire forgiveness of all your sins, in the name of the Father, and of the + Son, and of the Holy Spirit. C: Amen. 3

GATHERING HYMN ELW 781 GREETING Children of the Heavenly Father P: The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all. C: And also with you. THE LITANY P: O Lord, I cry to you for help. C: In the morning my prayer comes before you. P: Give me the joy of your saving help again, C: and sustain me with your bountiful Spirit. P: Let my mouth be full of your praise C: and your glory all the day long. P: Every day will I bless you, C: and praise your name forever and ever. P: Awesome things will you show us in your righteousness, C: O God of our salvation, O hope of all the ends of the earth and of the seas that are far away. P: Bless the Lord, O my soul, C: and all that is within me, bless his holy name. P: He redeems my life from the grave, C: and crowns me with mercy and lovingkindness. P: Lord, hear my prayer, C: and let my cry come before you. P: The Lord be with you. C: And also with you. 4

P: Let us pray... O Heavenly Father, C: dear God, I am a poor unworthy sinner. I do not deserve to raise my eyes or hands toward you or to pray. But because you have commanded us all to pray and have promised to hear us and through your dear Son Jesus Christ have taught us both how and what to pray, I come to you in obedience to your word, trusting your gracious promise. I pray in the name of my Lord Jesus Christ together with all your saints and Christians on earth. Amen. WE HEAR GOD S SAVING WORD OLD TESTAMENT READING Ezekiel 36:23-33 A: The Word of the Lord C. CHILDRENS MESSAGE What s Heaven? SERMON A Holy Father s Name WE RESPOND TO GOD S WORD HYMN This is My Father s World ELW 824 APOSTLE S CREED I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord. He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into hell. On the third day he rose again. He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen 6

PRAYERS OF INTERCESSION P: Filled with the Holy Spirit, we join with the church in every place, praying for the world that God so loves. A brief silence. A: God our strength, you command your people to keep sabbath. Coax your church away from the busyness of the world and give us holy rest, so that, refreshed, we will give vibrant witness to your worldhealing love. Hear us, O God. Your mercy is great. A: God our strength, you restore what is withered. As all creation stretches forth in hunger and thirst for you, revive what has ceased to flourish and repair what has fallen into decay. Make us partners in your holy healing. Hear us, O God. Your mercy is great. A: God our strength, we ache for peace. Teach nations that you carry our burdens, you free human hands, and you rescue us in distress. Raise up servant leaders in the world who listen to your voice and walk in your ways. Hear us, O God. Your mercy is great. A: God our strength, you grieve our hardness of heart whenever we turn your holy counsel into rules to control others. Open our hearts to your loving will for these times, for our neighbors, and for this community of faith. Hear us, O God. Your mercy is great. A: We commend to your gracious care and keeping all the men and women of our armed forces at home and abroad. Defend them day by day with your heavenly grace; strengthen them in their trials and temptations; give them courage to face the perils that surround them; and grant them a sense of your abiding presence wherever they may be. Hear us, O God. Your mercy is great. 7

P: God our strength, people are afflicted and perplexed, persecuted and struck down. Shine the light of your glory into the hearts of your suffering ones so that they will not be crushed, driven to despair, or forsaken. Hear us, O God. Your mercy is great. A: God our strength, death is at work in us, but life is in you. Free us now to live into your promise of indestructible life and, in the end, restore us with all the saints. Hear us, O God. Your mercy is great. P: By the sure guidance of your Holy Spirit, O God, we lift up our prayers in trust and thanksgiving; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. PEACE P: The peace of the Lord be with you always. C: And also with you. (The congregation may greet one another in the name of the Lord.) THE OFFERING OFFERTORY RESPONSE ELW 692 We Are an Offering OFFERING PRAYER P: Merciful God, you open wide your hand and satisfy the need of every living thing. You have set this feast before us. Open our hands to receive it. Open our hearts to embrace it. Open our lives to live it. We pray this through Christ our Lord. C: Amen. 8

THE GREAT THANKSGIVING P: The Lord be with you. C: And also with you. P: Lift up your hearts. C: We lift them to the Lord. P: Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. C: It is right to give our thanks and praise. PROPER PREFACE P: It is indeed right, our duty and our joy, that we should at all times and in all places give thanks and praise to you, almighty and merciful God. You reveal your glory as the glory of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit: equal in majesty, undivided in splendor, one Lord, one God, ever to be adored in your eternal glory. And so, with all the choirs of angels, with the church on earth and the hosts of heaven, we praise your name and join their unending hymn: Holy, holy, holy Lord, ELW 153 Lord God of pow r and might: Heav n and earth are full of your glory. SECOND QUARTER GIVING JUG (April May and June), Food for the Poor is a ministry which serves those who are hungry primarily in the Caribbean area of the world. They direct their efforts to individuals and communities which lack access to food through the way we take for granted. That is they serve people who have no access to stores or farmers markets because those entities do not exist or they have no financial resources with which to pay for food. Food for the Poor sends out speakers to congregations like ours to share with us the story of the ministry and to put a face to those who serve as ministers through Food for the Poor. We have in the past supported the ministry of Food for the Poor and will again this year. VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL NEEDS. Sheet of needs is laying on the back counter in the Fellowship Hall.
