Hus Happenings November/December 2013 Radical Faith The book of Acts gives us a picture of what Radical Faith looks like. This past Sunday, October 27 th, we focused in on the life, ministry and martyrdom of Stephen. He was known as the Winsome Radical. He was not an angry person but his knowledge of the scriptures and his acceptance of Jesus as the foretold Messiah made sure he stood out to the Jewish religious leaders. They wanted to end this new movement called The Way begun by this Jesus by killing and imprisoning of its followers. They killed Stephen by stoning and one of the participating bystanders was Saul. Yes this was the Saul that would In this issue of Hus Happenings A Message from Mel 1 Birthdays & Anniversaries Sunday School 3 Just For Kids 4 A View From the Pew 5 A View From the Pew 6 November Calendar 7 2 become one of Christianity s greatest followers and writer of most of the New Testament. Radical Faith is what characterized these early Church leaders and believers. The power of Gods Holy Spirit that indwelt the believers caused them to live out a Radical Faith. Join us each Sunday as I teach on the principles that made the Early Church such a powerful Community of Faith filled with ordinary men and women live out a Radical Faith. Through this Thanksgiving and Christmas season we will learn that Radical Faith is the norm and not the exception. Honor Our Veterans Veterans Day, which is November 11 each year, is a holiday to honor America s veterans for their patriotism and willingness to serve and sacrifice for our nation s common good. Christians follow the Prince of Peace, so war is a dilemma that often challenges people of faith. Some Christians are pacifists, while others believe in a just war. Many believe that the goals of freedom, justice, equality and democracy are worth the cost required. Whatever individual Christians decide about any given conflict, most Christians believe that men and women who strive to make this world free of tyrants are to be respected. As Winston Churchill said, Never in the field of human conflict was so much owed by so many to so few. Thank you to all the men and women who served or are now serving our country.
