ISRAEL EXPLORING THE HOLY LAND OCTOBER 13 TO 24, 2012 TEL AVIV Tuesday, October 16 The cultural hub of the city, the Tel Aviv Museum of Art with works by van Gogh, Chagall, and Pissarro in addition to Israeli artists is the focus this morning. Lunch and the afternoon are at leisure. You may wish to explore the shops in the lively Old Port or join an optional walking tour of the historic Neve Tzedek area, with its galleries, boutiques, and cultural attractions. Bauhaus architecture in the White City, Tel Aviv. NEW YORK 1 TEL AVIV Saturday, October 13 flight to Tel Aviv. Depart New York on an overnight TEL AVIV Sunday, October 14 Arrive in the late afternoon in Tel Aviv and check in at the newly renovated Carlton Hotel, on the shores of the Mediterranean. Gather for a welcome reception with introductory remarks by your lecturer, followed by dinner. TEL AVIV Monday, October 15 An architectural tour introduces the UNESCO World Heritage White City with its Bauhaus and International style buildings dating from the 1930s and a stop in Old Jaffa for a rooftop reception at the Ilana Goor Gallery. Following lunch, attend a briefing with a Political Affairs Officer from the U.S. Embassy and visit the Israeli Museum at the Yitzhak Rabin Center, which traces the history of the State of Israel. TEL AVIV 1 TIBERIAS Wednesday, October 17 Depart Tel Aviv to discover the remains of Herod s great Roman port city of Caesarea. A rustic lunch is arranged at one of Israel s finest vineyards, at the foot of the Carmel mountain ridge. Then tour the ancient city of Megiddo, which gave rise to the concept of Armageddon, and, time permitting, the small museum. TIBERIAS Thursday, October 18 Drive into the Golan Heights near the Syrian border for a briefing by a border guard, followed by a vineyard tour, and lunch on your own in Rosh Pina. In the hilltop town of Safed (Tsfat), the spiritual center of Kabbala mysticism, stroll among the artist studios and enjoy views of the valley. Also stop at the Mount of Beatitudes and the ancient synagogue at Capernaum, the base of Jesus three-year ministry in Galilee. Dine with your fellow travelers tonight at the hotel. TIBERIAS 1 JERUSALEM Friday, October 19 This morning explore Beit She an, the largest and best-preserved Roman and Byzantine city in northern Israel. Ongoing excavations have uncovered a city center, mosaic floors, and colonnaded shopping streets. After lunch in the countryside featuring locally grown produce and lovely views of the valley, continue up to Jerusalem, one of the world s most historic cities and central to the three great monotheistic faiths: Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. Accommodations are at the well-located David Citadel Hotel. Those who wish to may attend services this evening. A Shabbat dinner is arranged at the hotel. Dolorosa that traces the last steps of Jesus Christ before his crucifixion. End at the Church of the Holy Sepulcher, venerated as the Hill of Calvary and said to contain the place where Christ was buried. Dinner and the evening are at your leisure. JERUSALEM Sunday, October 21 After an optional early morning visit to the Dome of the Rock on Temple Mount, an area sacred to Jews and Muslims, enter the Old City s Jaffa Gate to tour the Tower of David Museum. Built into the medieval citadel, the museum showcases the long and complex history of Jerusalem. After lunch, spend the afternoon at Yad Vashem, where visits include the Avenue of the Righteous, the Holocaust History Museum designed by Moshe Safdie, and the poignant Children s Memorial. The evening is unscheduled for individual pursuits. JERUSALEM Saturday, October 20 A short drive takes you to the Mount of Olives, with panoramic city views. Then stroll through the Ophel Archaeological Gardens where 25 layers of ruins reveal 2,500 years of Jerusalem s history including a 7th-century complex of royal palaces. Continue to the Western Wall, the only remaining part of the Second Jewish Temple complex that was destroyed in 70 C.E. After lunch, a guided walk includes the Jewish, Muslim, and Christian quarters as you follow the Via Dome of the Rock, Jerusalem.

A suggested flight schedule will be offered, and airfare will be quoted on an individual basis. A fee of $75 per person will be charged for any reservations other than the suggested flight schedule; private transfers can be arranged at a supplemental cost. AAA, AYA, and/or their agents assume no responsibility or liability for any act, error, or omission, or for any injury, loss, accident, delay, or irregularity which may be occasioned by reason of any defect in any aircraft, ship, train, bus, or other carrier, or through neglect or default of any subcontractor or other third party, which may be used wholly or in part in the performance of their duty to the participants of The Program. The passage ticket issued by the carrier is the sole contract between the participant and the carrier. Nor will AAA or AYA and/or their agents be responsible for loss, injury, damages, or expenses to persons or property, due to illness, weather, strikes, local laws, hostilities, wars, terrorist acts, acts of nature, or other such causes in connection with The Program or anything beyond their reasonable control. AAA is not responsible for transportation or other program delays and changes, nor additional expenses or loss of time that may be incurred. In the event it becomes necessary or advisable for the comfort or well-being of the participants, or for any reason whatsoever, to alter the itinerary at any time, without notice to the participants, such alterations will be made without penalty to AAA or AYA. Additional expenses, if any, shall be borne by the participants. Baggage and personal effects are the sole responsibility of the participant at all times. AYA and AAA reserve the right to accept or decline any person as a participant at any time, or to require any participant to withdraw from The Program at their own expense when such an action is determined by AAA or AYA to be in the best interest of the participant s health and safety, or the general welfare of the other participants. CANCELLATION POLICY AAA must strictly adhere to its cancellation policy to offset costs incurred prior to the commencement of The Program, which may include but are not limited to: advance payments to land operators; train charters; communication expenses; development/promotional expenses; and the loss of time that might have permitted resale of reserved space. All cancellations must be made in writing to the offices of the Association of Yale Alumni, and are subject to a $350 non-refundable administrative fee. All refunds are limited to amounts actually received by AAA and are the sole responsibility of AAA; AYA shall have no liability for refunds. At the time AYA receives written notification of cancellation, the following cancellation charges will apply: cancellations received between 120 and 91 days prior to departure, 20 percent of the program cost per person; those received between 90 and 61 days before departure, 50 percent of the program cost per person; no refunds will be given for cancellations received within 60 days of departure. No refunds are given for cancellation on or after the day of departure, or for unused portions of the tour, for any reason. Air cancellation charges, if any, will be assessed in accordance with airline regulations. All group fare tickets must be issued no less than 30 days prior to departure. NOTE: Neither AAA nor AYA shall be liable for any airline cancellation penalties incurred by the purchase of a non-refundable ticket. In the case of a cancellation due to shortage of participants, AAA will attempt to notify all participants at least 45 days prior to departure. However, AAA reserves the right to cancel The Program prior to departure for any reason and, in such case, reimbursement of refundable costs of the trip by AAA shall constitute full settlement with the participant. In the unlikely event that a dispute arises between a participant and AAA or AYA, the following conditions will apply: (a) the dispute will be settled by binding arbitration administered by the American Arbitration Association in New York, NY; (b) the dispute will be governed by New York Law; (c) the maximum amount of recovery to which a participant shall be entitled under any and all circumstances will be the sum of all monies actually received from the participant by AAA. The participant agrees that this is a fair and reasonable limitation on the damages, of any sort whatsoever, that a participant may suffer.
