TRUNK CALLS from Elephant Rock # 35 October, 2009 Hello friends. We pestered you with our Newsletter when it was still winter. Seems such a long time ago and we have truly forgotten the cold. The hot sun is again shining in fact so much of it for so long that we have again started to buy water in for our tanks have not been properly topped up for about three months. But our dam is still more or less full and the lake at our doorstep is 50% which is much higher than it has ever been in the last seven years! Be that as it may we are still here and we are still having a good time with our guests, as can be seen from the following snippets of our past activities. Cheers, Sue & Jaak Lake views from up the mountain. Phone: 07 54635555 email: elephantrock@optusnet.com.au web: http://elephantrock-naturally.com.au Elephant Rock...naturally

11th July - Trivia Challenge. Show off your knowledge of the important things in life - utterly useless information! TRIVIA NIGHT July 2009 Who s the smartest, then? If you answer all the Trivia questions correctly, does that show all that you are smarter than the rest? Or does that only prove that you retain all the useless information that most others do not consider important? Once a year we at Elephant Rock try to get answers to these questions - but to no avail as we feel that although all participants had a good time attempting to answer the 150 (yes! 150!) questions put to them the ultimate answer was not reached. Maybe next year We do not think the questions were too hard ( What information is sought in a Dick Test? ) * or too complex ( The scientific study of the distribution and abundance of life and the interactions between organisms and the environment, is better known as what? ) * and since all Australians are sports fanatics some sports questions were also included (What was the name of Homer Simpson s Bowling team? ) *. In fact there were 12 categories of 15 questions in all. So the variety, to cater to everyone s tastes was there. As a precaution in case of arguments about answers, all were made aware of the disclaimer which pointed out that arguments will not be tolerated, so button up! All went well, like a bomb! * Answers: Page 6 In search of answers The winners (smarties?) Ecstatic winner of door prize! THE FABULOUS WINTER SUNSETS - beautiful one day, perfect the next! 15th August - Soup and board/card games. We ll all enjoy the soups you bring to the cold August night and follow this with numerous board and/or card games - including the Ninety-nine championships. Has anyone counted how many different soups can be created and are created every day in this world? How many in Australia? How many in Queensland? Well, for the soup (& games) night, the participants did their own thing and guess what? Not one soup was duplicated although the chefs did not previously discuss the menu among themselves. The variety was terrific and everyone sampled most, if not all, the dishes available. The conversation around the table continued into the night for so long that no board games, or cards, were played. Soup & Games 80 BIRTHDAY We feel honoured to have had Jerry and Leslie from New Mexico for the celebration of Jerry s 80th birthday with us. Jerry is a quiet type. Quiet but verbose as he enjoys telling stories. In the photo on the right he is getting into one of his stories just before cutting into his birthday cake. And his audience was fascinated! Back for your 90th,Jerry? Elephant Rock...naturally 3

26-27th September. Our annual Market Day. Bring along all the gear you wish to sell, and go home with the stuff you managed to purchase from other market stalls. MARKET DAY Selling original paintings, while working on another masterpiece. And what is a market day without a food seller with deli fare? You couldn t get cheaper anywhere else. Although winter is over, there will be another one, so Marg s knits sell like hotcakes Here you see a small sampling of the various stalls selling all sorts of goodies. So next year come and do your market buying naturally! MASSAGE SPRING HILL Georges & Ruth Members MAA/INTA www.massagespringhill.com Massage Workshop Georges and Ruth are good at what they do - massage and they like to pass on their knowledge to anyone interested in this art form. On 19th September they conducted their second workshop for this year here at Elephant Rock. Very popular. Look out for their appearance again Elephant Rock...naturally 4

24-25th October Art weekend. The weekend for all you budding artists to get hints from a respected artist. Oils, water colours, acrylics, whatever is your preference...all are welcome. ARTy weekend! And now another second for the year function the art weekend. Just shows that there are a great many nudists who are interested in the finer arts. Must try a singing, dancing and acting weekend, or two, sometime! This time John did the tuition as it happened that Andy has moved hundreds of kilometers from here, and Kathy was not well. John did a fabulous job though and bore the pressure without too much worry. A beer or two during the hot day of course, helped. The large tarp erected to keep the sun off the oil colours (or maybe the teacher and students?) was a first and a most welcome addition. Next year again? 12. What do you do when you see an endangered animal eating an endangered plant? 13. If a parsley farmer is sued, can they garnish his wages? 14. Would a fly without wings be called a walk? 15 Why do they lock gas station bathrooms? Are they afraid someone will clean them? Page 6 16. If a turtle doesn't have a shell, is he homeless or naked? 17. Can vegetarians eat animal crackers? 18. If the police arrest a mime, do they tell him he has the right to remain silent?????? Trivia answers from page 2 1. A skin test to determine susceptibility to scarlet fever. 2. Ecology 3. Pin Pals COMING EVENTS at Elephant Rock...naturally T for the rest of 2009 28th November - Friends of ER Picnic. We thank you for your loyal support of Elephant Rock with a sausage sizzle. So come and enjoy. 31st December See the New Year in at our 1001 Arabian Nights party. Book early! And now, for the start of 2010 26th January Australia Day Unfortunately this is a Tuesday but we will organise some patriotic activities, such as thong throwing, for those who turn up (or can make it a looong weekend by taking Monday off!) 7th March Mexican night. Accessorize with Mexican artifacts or sombrero. Bring along Mexican food to share for the combined dinner. Dance Mexican?? 2nd-5th April - Easter The usual go-go-go! Last year we had an event of paper aeroplanes, this year...who knows. 25th April-ANZAC Day We will celebrate and playa friendly game of two-up as well. More to come...watch this space! An old man shuffled slowly into an ice cream parlor and pulled himself slowly, painfully, up onto a stool. After catching his breath, he ordered a banana split. The waitress asked kindly, "Crushed nuts?" "No," he replied, "Arthritis." Elephant Rock...naturally 6
