Turning Points Isaiah 6:1-8 A Sermon by Rev. Bob Kells

Sermon and Scripture for Sunday, May 31, Isaiah 6:1-8

Transcription:

In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord, high and exalted, seated on a throne; and the train of his robe filled the temple. Above him were seraphim, each with six wings: With two wings they covered their faces, with two they covered their feet, and with two they were flying. And they were calling to one another: Holy, holy, holy is the Lord Almighty; the whole earth is full of his glory.

At the sound of their voices the doorposts and thresholds shook and the temple was filled with smoke. Woe to me! I cried. I am ruined! For I am a man of unclean lips, and I live among a people of unclean lips, and my eyes have seen the King, the Lord Almighty. Then one of the seraphim flew to me with a live coal in his hand, which he had taken with tongs from the altar. With it he touched my mouth and said, See, this has touched your lips; your guilt is taken away and your sin atoned for.

Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, Whom shall I send? And who will go for us? And I said, Here am I. Send me! He said, Go and tell this people: Be ever hearing, but never understanding; be ever seeing, but never perceiving. Make the heart of this people calloused; make their ears dull and close their eyes. Otherwise they might see with their eyes, hear with their ears, understand with their hearts, and turn and be healed.

Then I said, For how long, Lord? And he answered: Until the cities lie ruined and without inhabitant, until the houses are left deserted and the fields ruined and ravaged, until the Lord has sent everyone far away and the land is utterly forsaken. And though a tenth remains in the land, it will again be laid waste. But as the terebinth and oak leave stumps when they are cut down, so the holy seed will be the stump in the land.

Uzziah was 16 years old when he became King of Judah and he reigned in Jerusalem 52 years. 2 Chronicles 26:3 But after Uzziah became powerful, his pride led to his downfall. He was unfaithful to the Lord and entered the temple of the Lord to burn incense on the altar of incense. 2 Chronicles 26:16 King Uzziah had leprosy until the day he died. He lived in a separate house until the day he died and excluded from the temple of the Lord. 2 Chronicles 26:21

Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for light and light for darkness woe to those who are wise in their own eyes and clever in their own sight. Isaiah 5:20

His depravity, humility & identification with his people s sins. Woe is me! I am ruined! For I am a man of unclean lips and I live amongst a people of unclean lips, and my eyes have seen the King, the Lord Almighty.

Here I am. Send me!

Who shall ascend the hill of the LORD? And who shall stand in his holy place? He who has clean hands and a pure heart, who does not lift up his soul to what is false and does not swear deceitfully. He will receive blessing from the LORD and righteousness from the God of his salvation. Psalm 24:3-5(ESV)

Therefore prepare your minds for action; be self-controlled as. obedient children, do not conform to the evil desires you had when you lived in ignorance. But just as He who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do. 1 Pet 1:13-15(NIV)

. For if we go on sinning deliberately after receiving the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins, but a fearful expectation of judgment, and a fury of fire that will consume the adversaries It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God. - Hebrews 10:26-27,31 (ESV)

If we could see more clearly God, in the full blaze of his burning purity we will not be on easy terms. with all the sins that now infest our souls and breed easy compromises with the spirit of the age. This is what leads us to the casual way in which we live our lives with their blatantly wrong priorities. If we could see this more clearly, the church will be more filled with repentance and in consequence much more joy and much more authenticity. - David Wells

. My ears had heard of you but now my eyes have seen you.therefore I despise myself and repent in dust and ashes. - Job 42:5-6(NIV)
