Pray that all people can share in God s abundance and have nutritious food to eat. Dr. Tim Archibald who has been called to St. Andrew s in Calgary AB and for the family as they get settled in their new home. Tuesday, October 2 We pray for discernment as the delegates of the Caribbean and North America Council for Mission (CANACOM) gather for their Council meeting in Curacao from September 30 October 4. Wednesday, October 3 Today is the 145th anniversary of Treaty 3 (Northwest Ontario). Let us confess Canada s failure to keep the treaty, pray that Canada will do what was promised. Thursday, October 4 As people gather across the country for vigils, pray for the more than 1,200 missing and murdered Indigenous women and girls in Canada. Pray that families and communities find justice and comfort. Friday, October 5 Amid a worsening humanitarian crisis in South Sudan, pray for Presbyterian World Service & Development partners running life-saving interventions for malnourished children. Saturday, October 6 Give thanks for Zomba Theological College (Zomba, Malawi) as it continues 40 years of preparing ministers of Word and Sacraments and Christian leadership. Sunday, October 7 Give thanks for the children in church schools and youth groups, and for the leaders who love them, care for them and teach them. Monday, October 8 As we give thanks for the bounty that God has given us, we remember those who are chronically hungry. May we act to feed the hungry. Tuesday, October 9 Pray for Life in Christ Ministry as they continue to provide support for Arabic and Farsi speaking refugee persons living in the Greater Toronto area. Wednesday, October 10 Pray for the gift of hospitality that we might offer our time to those in need of friendship and compassion. Thursday, October 11 (International Day of the Girl) Pray for the Presbyterian World Service & Development program in India educating families about the consequences of early marriage and empowering girls to decide their own future. Friday, October 12 Pray for the children, parents, and caregivers who attend Winnipeg Inner City Missions Learn and Play literacy program. May the program continue to be a nurturing place for children to learn, play, and grow. Saturday, October 13 Pray that the Mid India Board of Educators (MIBE) Graduate School for Nurses (GSN) in Indore meets their admissions target for 2018. Sunday, October 14 Pray that the Canadian Ministries Grants Committee, meeting at the end of October, will be guided by the Lord as they help the church discern how to best use its resources. Monday, October 15 Pray for the upcoming retreat of the Synod of Manitoba and Northwestern Ontario. Ask that the Holy Spirit will grow resilience and trust. Tuesday, October 16 (World Food Day) Celebrate in prayer the voice of Canadians as they demonstrate support for Canada s role in the movement to end global hunger and poverty through the I Care campaign. Wednesday, October 17 (International Day for the Eradication of Poverty) Pray for all people who do not have enough healthy food, a safe home, or a community for fellowship. Pray that governments develop and continue programs to reduce poverty. Thursday, October 18 We give thanks to God that Presbyterians across Canada continue to share the gospel and for ministry leaders in the Presbyterian Evangelism Network, who are meeting Oct. 18-20 in Toronto. Friday, October 19 We thank God for the generosity of food bank donors and volunteers who have helped overcome poverty and hunger. Saturday, October 20 Pray for Ms. Anne Krauss who serves as the convenor of the Ministry Committee for the Presbytery of Vancouver Island.

Wednesday, November 21 Give thanks for a Presbyterian World Service & Development project that is providing school supplies for children displaced by violence in Syria. Thursday, November 22 (National Housing Day) Pray that all Canadians have access to safe and affordable housing. Friday, November 23 Please pray for the students of VST. Pray that their callings would be clear and that God would grant them the gift of innovation for the sake of the Kingdom. Jay Song and leaders at Knox Presbyterian Church in Weyburn, Saskatchewan, as their music outreach ministry - PALM (peace, art, love and music) continues to bring neighbours together through the arts. Sunday, November 25 (International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women) Pray for a brighter future that includes peace and security for women in Canada and around the world. But those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint (Isaiah 40:31). Monday, November 26 Please pray for all seniors. Ask that they are provided with homes of dignity and peace; a willingness to accept help when they need it and understanding helpers; and, as their strength diminishes, increase their assurance in the love of the Almighty Healer. Tuesday, November 27 Pray for the Special Committee of Former Moderators, appointed by the 2018 General Assembly, as it considers sexuality matters and seeks to propose a way forward. Wednesday, November 28 Pray for the Rev. Linda Patton-Cowie (St. Mark s, Orillia) and the Rev. Glynis Williams as they represent The Presbyterian Church in Canada at the Taiwan Ecumenical Forum for Justice and Peace from November 28 30. Thursday, November 29 Give thanks for the work of Churches Action Relief and Development (Malawi) and pray for the successful building of its new agroecology project. Friday, November 30 Pray for young people as they seek to discern God s call to participate in the Youth in Mission trips being offered in 2019. So we do not lose heart. Even though our outer nature is wasting away, our inner nature is being renewed day by day. 2 Corinthians 4:16

Thursday, November 1 Pray for the Parliament of the World s Religions as it meets in Toronto from November 1 7. This parliament was created to cultivate harmony among the world s religions and to foster justice and peace. Friday, November 2 Pray for the members of the Committee on Education and Reception as they meet with the candidates and ministers of other denominations who have applied to be received into the PCC. Saturday, November 3 We pray for the health and safety of PCC mission staff in Malawi, the Rev. Dr. Blair and Mrs. Vivian Bertrand and their three children. Sunday, November 4 Pray for the Canadian Armed Forces and all military chaplains and counsellors who bring guidance and support to our troops and their families at home and abroad. Monday, November 5 We pray for the Rev. Dr. Karen Horst and the women gathering for this weekend s Fall Retreat at Crieff Hills. May it be a time of fellowship and spiritual renewal for all. Tuesday, November 6 May God grant wisdom to the Rev. Fr. Martin Kalimbe as he embarks on a new journey as the Executive Director of Theological Education by Extension in Malawi (TEEM). Wednesday, November 7 We pray for courage and clear vision for those currently discerning calls to start new worshipping communities in the PCC. Thursday, November 8 We give thanks to you, Lord, for all ministry leaders in The Presbyterian Church in Canada. We pray especially for those attending the Transform Conference in Orillia this coming weekend. Friday, November 9 Pray for the WMS Council Executive as they meet today to help plan for the mission of the Society. May God s wisdom create good and helpful conversations. Saturday, November 10 Pray for protection and peace for those without a safe place to sleep around the world. Sunday, November 11 Pray today for those who suffer as a result of conflict and give thanks for all the service men and women who have been lost, who have served and who continue to serve this country. Monday, November 12 This year is 100th Anniversary of the Armistice being signed which ended WWI. Pray Isaiah s vision of swords beaten into ploughs and tanks becoming tractors would be fulfilled. Tuesday, November 13 As the days grow darker, pray for those who are suffering from depression, that their spirits will be lifted. Wednesday, November 14 Pray for stewardship and mission committees as they work to inspire vision and enthusiasm in their congregations. Thursday, November 15 Pray for the volunteers who are working on the Regional Women s Gathering. We give thanks for their service. Friday, November 16 (International Day for Tolerance) In Ghanaian communities where many women face accusations of witchcraft, pray for the work of Presbyterian World Service & Development fostering greater respect and understanding. Saturday, November 17 Pray for the members of the Rainbow Communion and other deputized listeners as they hear stories of harm done due to homophobia, transphobia, heterosexism and hypocrisy in the PCC as well as stories of grace received even in difficult circumstances. Sunday, November 18 (Restorative Justice Week) Give thanks for the Church Council on Justice and Corrections. Pray for their work to address the healing of victims, offenders and their communities as they strive for justice. (November 18-25) Monday, November 19 Pray for the Assembly Council as it meets today, that it may wisely and enthusiastically continue to provide strong support and faithful leadership for the church. Tuesday, November 20 (Universal Children s Day) May God watch over children who are learning, playing and growing in safety at the Presbyterian World Service & Development-supported Francisco Coll School in Guatemala.

Sunday, December 23 Pray for those who are in recovery for addiction, that they might know God s healing touch. Monday, December 24 Give thanks to our most Loving God for this night and for all it represents. Thank God for the hope bestowed, the peace brought, the love pouring out, and the joy given. Give praise most of all for Jesus, God s Word made flesh. May he light our way as the holy star lit the way for the wise men. The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth. (John 1:14). Use us to proclaim the Word made flesh in ways that make the incarnation evident to all creation. Wednesday, December 26 Pray for congregational mission teams that are preparing to travel overseas in 2019. Thursday, December 27 Pray for the treasurers of our congregations who work hard all year to keep the financial books in order. Friday, December 28 Pray for the Church of Central Africa Presbyterian congregations at Chimwalira as they grow and strengthen their ministry and outreach to the community. Saturday, December 29 Pray for the Rev. Paul Wu who serves as the convenor of the Ministry Committee for the Presbyter of Montreal. Sunday, December 30 Pray for wisdom and discernment as the Rev. Dr. Paul McLean, Bible Translation Adviser in Taiwan, helps six indigenous Bible translation teams with their projects. Monday, December 31 Give thanks for the generosity of Presbyterians who share in the mission and ministry of our church through their gifts to Presbyterians Sharing. And going into the house, they saw the child with Mary his mother, and they fell down and worshipped him. Matthew 2:11

And this is the testimony: God has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son (1 John 5:11). Saturday, December 1 (World AIDS Day) Pray for Presbyterian World Service & Development-supported guardians in Malawi, giving girls and boys orphaned by HIV and AIDS a more healing and hopeful childhood. Sunday, December 2 As we enter into the season of advent, pray that God s spirit of generosity and abundance will fill our hearts and guide our actions. Monday, December 3 (International Day of Persons with Disabilities) Give thanks that every person is made in the image of God with unique gifts and abilities that help build God s kingdom. Tuesday, December 4 Pray for church music directors, choirs and musicians during the Advent and Christmas season. Wednesday, December 5 (World Soil Day) In communities crippled by drought, pray for the arrival of rain to replenish land and bring a good harvest to those whose lives depend on it. Thursday, December 6 Pray for those who serve as mentors to candidates preparing for ministries within the PCC. Friday, December 7 Pray for our ministers and members of worship committees and choirs as they prepare for the busy Christmas season. Saturday, December 8 Praise God for the thousands of faithful and vibrant youth involved in the ministry of the Church of Central Africa Presbyterian. Sunday, December 9 Please pray for the Presbyterian faculty at VST, including Pat Dutcher-Walls, Ross Lockhart, Bob Paul and Richard Topping. Monday, December 10 (Human Rights Day) Pray for courageous individuals and organizations defending human rights around the world. Tuesday, December 11 We give thanks for Presbyterian World Service & Development s compassionate supporters sharing the gifts of hope, peace, joy and love through the Advent Challenge. Wednesday, December 12 Take time during the consumer-driven Christmas rush to think about and be thankful for what it means to have enough. Thursday, December 13 Pray for our mission partners all across the globe that this Christmas is a joyful time to celebrate with family and friends. Friday, December 14 Pray for the Centre for Missional Leadership, that their work may be effective and faithful for the growth of the church and its mission. Saturday, December 15 Pray that God is with churches as they prepare Christmas baskets for their communities. May receiving families and our congregations join together to experience the hope, peace, joy, and love of Advent and prepare for the coming of the Lord. Sunday, December 16 Please pray for the vital work of the Committee on Church Doctrine. Monday, December 17 Pray for the Continuing Education Grants Committee which meets this month at church offices. Tuesday, December 18 (International Migrants Day) Pray for the safe and just treatment of foreign temporary workers in Canada. Pray for organizations and individuals working for the humane treatment of migrant workers and members of their families. Wednesday, December 19 Pray for the Rev. Dr. David Sherbino who serves as the convenor of the Student Ministry and Bursary Committee for the Presbytery of Paris. Thursday, December 20 Lord, help us to choose to put you at the center of our family life as we celebrate the season of your birth. Keep us from distractions and help us to invite you into all our family activities. Give us a spirit of wisdom and revelation that we might know you better. Friday, December 21 As we prepare to celebrate the birth of Christ, we pray that Christians in Israel and Palestine will gather to worship in joy and peace. Saturday, December 22 Pray for children, youth and families all over the world who don t know hope, peace, joy or love this time of year.

Tuesday, January 22 We need a new vision for theological education in a changing world. As we explore what this might look like, we ask for prayers to discern God s guidance in the changes we could make in our own context. Wednesday, January 23 Pray for Presbyterian World Service & Development partners in Nicaragua teaching youth about gender, sexual reproductive health and healthy living habits. Thursday, January 24 Pray that God will provide the resources congregations need to do the ministry they are called to do. Pray that they their experiences will be transformative. Saturday, January 26 Pray for new graduates of the theological colleges as they listen to God and work through the process of seeking a call to congregational ministry. Sunday, January 27 We give thanks and pray for safe travels as Dr. Nicholaus Bauman and his family return home after serving two years at the United Mission Hospital Tansen in Nepal (most likely returning to Canada at the end of Jan or early Feb 2019). Monday, January 28 Pray for all mission groups while they work to keep mission education before congregations this year. Tuesday, January 29 Pray for LGBTQI (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer/Questioning, Intersex) people and others who are telling their stories of harm done due to homophobia, transphobia, heterosexism and hypocrisy in The Presbyterian Church in Canada as well as stories of grace received even in difficult circumstances through the process developed by Rainbow Communion. Wednesday, January 30 Pray for Christian education leaders who are beginning to plan their congregation s 2019 vacation Bible school program. Thursday, January 31 Pray for all who will participate in the United Nations Interfaith Harmony Week (February 1 7, 2019). This endeavor seeks to spread a message of harmony and tolerance among the followers of all the world s religions and promote the common basis of Love of God and Love of the Neighbour. For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Jeremiah 29:11

Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland (Isaiah 43:18-19). Tuesday, January 1 As a new year begins, please pray for Presbyterian World Service & Development programs that are responding to poverty, hunger, emergency situations and injustice around the world. Wednesday, January 2 Pray for congregations as they prepare and gather for their annual meetings. We are caretakers of all that God has entrusted to us. Let us use these gifts wisely and share them generously. Thursday, January 3 We pray for campus ministries chaplains and volunteers and the congregations that support these ministries that show God s love and care to young adults facing many stresses and challenges. Friday, January 4 Give thanks for the generosity of Presbyterians who share in the mission and ministry of our church through their gifts to Presbyterians Sharing. Saturday, January 5 Pray for the children of ministers who are moving to new congregations. May they find friends and a comfortable sense of belonging as they adjust to their new environment. Sunday, January 6 Pray that the church may be guided, like the magi, to go in new and faithful paths. Monday, January 7 Pray for theological students who are beginning their studies in January at PCC seminaries across Canada. May they be enriched and challenged through their studies. Tuesday, January 8 Pray for those people who are strongly considering applying to participate in a PCC mission experience this year. Wednesday, January 9 We pray for congregations seeking knowledge and resources so they can offer facilities, services and programs that are accessible to people with a range of abilities. Thursday, January 10 We pray for all those whose lives have been devastated by disease, fire, floods or wars. We pray for those who care for them and put themselves daily in danger. Friday, January 11 Pray for members of the International Affairs Committee as they meet to prepare the Committee s report to the 145th General Assembly in 2019. Saturday, January 12 Pray for the Stewardship & Planned Giving staff at our national office as they work to support and encourage congregations in their stewardship ministries. Sunday, January 13 Pray for the Rev. Paul Wu who serves as the convenor of the Ministry Committee for the Presbyter of Montreal. Monday, January 14 Pray for the staff at the Shining Hospital in Nepal as they learn surgery techniques to enable healthier communities with funding from Presbyterian World Service & Development. Tuesday, January 15 Pray for WMS presbyterials as the meet to prepare for a new year and evaluate the past years work. May they also experience a rich time of study and fellowship. Wednesday, January 16 Pray for the Rev. George Malcolm who serves as the convenor of the Doctrine & Ministries Committee for the Presbytery of Peace River. Thursday, January 17 Pray for congregations committed not only to serving people in their community who are homeless and hungry during the winter months, but also advocating for changes to address homelessness. Friday, January 18 Give thanks that every person is made in the image of God. Celebrate that every person has unique gifts and abilities that help to build God s kingdom. Saturday, January 19 Please pray for Presbyterians in remote and rural congregations as they faithfully serve God and carry out their ministries in small communities. Sunday, January 20 O God of life and hope, we pray for our military chaplains who are deployed with our men and women. May they be able to be bearers of life, hope and joy to those who are far from home and may also feel far from these realities. Monday, January 21 Pray for parents raising small children and working full time, that they might find time and patience to strengthen and enjoy family connections.
