Week 2 Leader Notes Discovering God s Authorship Jan 24, 2018 WEEK 2 FOCUS Relational connection and setting culture Discovering God s Authorship Populating our Life Discovery Grids O Lord, you have examined my heart and know everything about me. You know when I sit down or stand up. You know my thoughts even when I m far away. You see me when I travel and when I rest at home. You know everything I do. You know what I am going to say even before I say it, Lord. You go before me and follow me. You place your hand of blessing on my head. Such knowledge is too wonderful for me, too great for me to understand! I can never escape from your Spirit! I can never get away from your presence! If I go up to heaven, you are there; if I go down to the grave, you are there. If I ride the wings of the morning, if I dwell by the farthest oceans, even there your hand will guide me, and your strength will support me. I could ask the darkness to hide me and the light around me to become night but even in darkness I cannot hide from you. To you the night shines as bright as day. Darkness and light are the same to you. You made all the delicate, inner parts of my body and knit me together in my mother s womb. Thank you for making me so wonderfully complex! Your workmanship is marvelous how well I know it. You watched me as I was being formed in utter seclusion, as I was woven together in the dark of the womb. You saw me before I was born. Every day of my life was recorded in your book. Every moment was laid out before a single day had passed. How precious are your thoughts about me, [b] O God. They cannot be numbered! I can t even count them; they outnumber the grains of sand! And when I wake up, you are still with me! O God, if only you would destroy the wicked! Get out of my life, you murderers! They blaspheme you; your enemies misuse your name. O Lord, shouldn t I hate those who hate you? Shouldn t I despise those who oppose you? Yes, I hate them with total hatred, for your enemies are my enemies. Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. Point out anything in me that offends you, and lead me along the path of everlasting life. Week 4 Leader Notes Listening for God Part 2 FOCUS Sharing their story Continue connecting relationally... culture is fairly set Remind your friends of the good, hard work they are doing, especially those who went first last week in sharing Listening For God Part 2 Life Discovery Grid Sharing Part 2 Very truly I tell you Pharisees, anyone who does not enter the sheep pen by the gate, but climbs in by some other way, is a thief and a robber. The one who enters by the gate is the shepherd of the sheep. The gatekeeper opens the gate for him, and the sheep listen to his voice. He calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. When he has brought out all his own, he goes on ahead of them, and his sheep follow him because they know his voice. But they will never follow a stranger; in fact, they will run away from him because they do not recognize a stranger s voice. Jesus used this figure of speech, but the Pharisees did not understand what he was telling them. John 10:1-6 Sharing question Highlights from the Journey readings or Sunday teaching Quick Review(Tom Brawner) & Table Sharing reminders (Britton Gregory) Table Sharing Summary, assignment reminder, prayer (Tom Brawner & Britton Gregory) None Send a follow-up email to your group... example below... Wow - great sharing last week! I m feeling like I am getting to know you and being known by you. Thank you for listening to my story. This week we will continue to interpret our stories from God s perspective as we look at the ways that we naturally drift. I ve been praying for you that God would continue to give you clarity and courage. I look forward to seeing you again this week.

Week 5 Leader Notes Three Life Drifts FOCUS Continue connecting relationally Remind your friends of the good, hard work they are doing Life Drifts Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, left the Jordan and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness, where for forty days he was tempted[a] by the devil. He ate nothing during those days, and at the end of them he was hungry. The devil said to him, If you are the Son of God, tell this stone to become bread. Jesus answered, It is written: Man shall not live on bread alone. The devil led him up to a high place and showed him in an instant all the kingdoms of the world. And he said to him, I will give you all their authority and splendor; it has been given to me, and I can give it to anyone I want to. If you worship me, it will all be yours. Jesus answered, It is written: Worship the Lord your God and serve him only. The devil led him to Jerusalem and had him stand on the highest point of the temple. If you are the Son of God, he said, throw yourself down from here. For it is written: He will command his angels concerning you to guard you carefully; they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone. Jesus answered, It is said: Do not put the Lord your God to the test. When the devil had finished all this tempting, he left him until an opportune time.
