Enjoying God s Fellowship Sermon Prayer: A Deeper Place of Grace Pastor Bill Evans Sermon text: Ephesians 1:15-23 15 For this reason, because I have heard of your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love[a] toward all the saints, 16 I do not cease to give thanks for you, remembering you in my prayers, 17 that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and of revelation in the knowledge of him, 18 having the eyes of your hearts enlightened, that you may know what is the hope to which he has called you, what are the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints, 19 and what is the immeasurable greatness of his power toward us who believe, according to the working of his great might 20 that he worked in Christ when he raised him from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly places, 21 far above all rule and authority and power and dominion, and above every name that is named, not only in this age but also in the one to come. 22 And he put all things under his feet and gave him as head over all things to the church, 23 which is his body, the fullness of him who fills all in all. 6 Sermon Notes Ephesians 1:15-23 Prayer: A Deeper Place of Grace

Offertory Sweet Hour of Prayer Sweet hour of prayer! sweet hour of prayer! that calls me from a world of care, and bids me at my Father s throne make all my wants and wishes known. In seasons of distress and grief, my soul has often found relief, and oft escaped the tempter s snare by thy return, sweet hour of prayer! Sweet hour of prayer! sweet hour of prayer! the joys I feel, the bliss I share of those whose anxious spirits burn with strong desires for thy return! With such I hasten to the place where God my Savior shows his face, and gladly take my station there, and wait for thee, sweet hour of prayer! Sweet hour of prayer! sweet hour of prayer! thy wings shall my petition bear to him whose truth and faithfulness engage the waiting soul to bless. And since he bids me seek his face, believe his word, and trust his grace, I ll cast on him my every care, and wait for thee, sweet hour of prayer! Gathering Hymn How Great Thou Art O Lord my God, when I in awesome wonder Consider all the worlds Thy Hands have made, I see the stars, I hear the rolling thunder, Thy pow r thro out the universe displayed; Then sings my soul, My Savior God, to Thee; How great Thou art, How great Thou art! (repeat) When thro the woods and forest glades I wander And hear the birds sing sweetly in the trees, When I look down from lofty mountain grandeur, And hear the brook and feel the gentle breeze. And when I think that God, his Son not sparing, Sent Him to die, I scarce can take it in, That on the cross, my burden gladly bearing He bled and died to take away my sin; When Christ shall come, with shout of acclamation, And take me home, what joy shall fill my heart! Then I shall bow in humble adoration And there proclaim, My God, how great Thou art. S.K. Hine. O STORE GUD. 1953 Manna Music Inc. CCLI License #56194 8

Song of Praise I Will Praise Him Still When the morning falls on the farthest hill I will sing His name, I will praise Him still. When dark trials come and my heart it filled With the weight of doubt, I will praise Him still. For the Lord our God, He is strong to save From the arms of death, from the deepest grave. And He gave us life in His perfect will And by His good grace, I will praise Him still. Fernando Ortega 1997 Dayspring Music, Inc. CCLI License #56194 9

Table Song Whom Have I in Heaven But Thee? Whom have I in Heav n above? Only Thee, my Savior; Whom have I on earth to love? Only Thee, my Savior; Who my wounded heart can heal, who my every sorrow feel, Who the light of joy reveal? Only Thee, my Savior. Who has led me all my days? Only Thou, my Savior; Who deserves my highest praise? Only Thou, my Savior; In my weakness who is strong, who has loved and loved me long, Who should claim my noblest song? Only Thou, my Savior. Who my inmost thoughts can read? Only Thou, my Savior; Who for me doth intercede? Only Thou, my Savior; Who my secret thoughts can know, who such tender mercy show, Who can make me white as snow? Only Thou, my Savior. Text Fanny Crosby based on Psalm 73 Music by Daniel Delaney, Blayne Chastain 10

Table Song Jesus, Thank You The myst ry of the cross I cannot comprehend, The agonies of Calvary. You, the perfect Holy One, crushed Your Son, Who drank the bitter cup reserved for me. Chorus: Your blood has washed away my sin. Jesus, thank You. The Father s wrath completely satisfied, Jesus, thank You. Once Your enemy, now seated at Your table, Jesus thank You. By Your perfect sacrifice I ve been brought near. Your enemy You ve made Your friend. Pouring out the riches of Your glorious grace, Your mercy and Your kindness know no end. Lover of my soul I want to live for You. 2003 Sovereign Grace Worship Integrity s Hosanna! Music CCLI License # 56194 11

Sending Song Just As I Am Just as I am, without one plea, But that Thy blood was shed for me, And that Thou bidst me come to Thee, O Lamb of God, I come, I come. Just as I am, and waiting not To rid my soul of one dark blot, To Thee Whose blood can cleanse each spot, O Lamb of God, I come, I come. Just as I am, though tossed about With many a conflict, many a doubt, Fightings and fears within, without, O Lamb of God, I come, I come. Just as I am, poor, wretched, blind; Sight, riches, healing of the mind, Yea, all I need in Thee to find, O Lamb of God, I come, I come. Just as I am Thou wilt receive, Wilt welcome, pardon, cleanse, relieve; Because Thy promise I believe, O Lamb of God, I come, I come. Text and music based on Psalm 46:10, Exodus 15:26 Arr. by Lee Herrington CCLI License # 56194 12

The Lord s Supper The Lord s Supper is one of two sacraments commanded by Christ and entrusted to his church (the other being Baptism). It portrays the gospel in a tangible way. Distributing bread and wine pictures the broken body and shed blood of Jesus freely offered for the forgiveness of sin and the transformation of our character. Eating those elements illustrates the faith that embraces Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord. What s the Lord s Supper for? Renewing our faith in God s goodness and grace. Grasping the freedom God offers to live like Jesus, reconcile conflicts and find power for service. Who is the Lord s Supper for? Members in good standing of any church that faithfully teaches the gospel, and who long for fellowship with Christ today. Children may partake in communion once they have confessed their own faith publicly before the congregation. Until then, be sure to include your children in the sacrament by reminding them what you believe and letting them accompany you to the Table. And remember that you are free to take the elements at the front of the sanctuary, where you could quietly gather your family together to ask God for his blessing. How can I find out more, or ask some questions? Contact one of the pastors 13

Reflection & Preparation Reflection: Ephesians 1:15-23 This Week: Prayer: Quote Prayer is meant to be a conversation where your life and your God meet. (Paul Miller, A Praying Life, pg. 10) 1 Samuel 12:19-25 I Will Instruct You in the Good and Right Way Luke 11:1-13 When You Pray Colossians 4:12-13 Struggling For You in His Prayers Almighty and Everlasting God, by whose Spirit the whole body of your faithful people are governed and sanctified: Receive our prayers and supplications which we offer to you. Grant that we may truly and unreservedly follow and worship you. Continue to encourage us and teach us to pray, for that which we need and for your glory and the purity and peace of the church, that the name of Jesus would be lifted up and glorified; through Christ our Lord. Amen. In Preparation for Sunday: Daniel 1:1-2 The Pray for Me Campaign: Praying through the 7 Essentials for our Youth This Week: Favor, Wisdom, Love, Faith, Purity, Speech, Conduct 14
