Time allowed 1 hour 30 minutes Instructions Use black ink or black ball-point pen. Write the information required on the front of your answer book. The Examining Body for this paper is AQA. The Paper Reference is 40552. Answer four questions. Each question has five parts. Do all rough work in your answer book. Cross through any work that you do not want to be marked. Information The marks for questions are shown in brackets. The maximum mark for this paper is 72. You will be marked on your ability to: use good English organise information clearly use specialist vocabulary where appropriate. 40552

2 Answer four questions. There are 18 marks for each question. Each question has five parts. Answer all five parts of each question chosen. Question 1 Religion and Animal Rights Look at the photographs below. 0 1 Give two examples of animals which are used for transport. (2 marks) 0 2 Explain religious views about genetically modifying animals. Refer to religious beliefs and teachings in your answer. 0 3 Religious believers should never support using animals for sport. 0 4 Explain what religious people might do to help preserve endangered species. 0 5 There is nothing wrong with killing animals for food.

3 Question 2 Religion and Planet Earth Look at the photograph below. 0 6 Give two examples of pollution. (2 marks) 0 7 Explain religious views about sustainable development. Refer to religious beliefs and teachings in your answer. 0 8 Religious believers have not done enough to support earth summits. 0 9 Explain what religious believers can do to help reduce global warming. 1 0 People are too selfish to protect the environment. 5 Question 4 Religion and Early Life Look at the photograph below. 1 6 Give two alternatives to having an abortion. (2 marks) 1 7 Explain different views about when a human life begins. Refer to religious beliefs and teachings in your answer. 1 8 Every new born baby is a miracle of life. 1 9 Explain why some religious believers support the UK law on abortion. 2 0 Fathers should have rights when abortion is being considered. (2 marks) 2 2 Explain two of the main causes of war. 2 3 Religious believers should never agree with a country having weapons of mass destruction. 2 4 Explain why some religious believers are prepared to fight in a war. Refer to religious beliefs and teachings in your answer. 2 5 There will always be wars.

7 Question 6 Religion and Young People Look at the photograph below. 2 6 Give two ways in which young people may learn about religion at home. (2 marks) 2 7 Explain why coming of age or membership ceremonies are important to religions. 2 8 Peer pressure makes it difficult for young people to be religious. 2 9 Describe activities that faith groups provide for young people. 3 0 School assemblies should be religious.
