Why Do We Do That? Benediction: At the conclusion of our morning worship the pastor typically has everyone rise to receive the benediction. When our pastor pronounces this he is speaking the blessing (which is what benediction means) of the Lord into our hearts just as Aaron was commanded to do in Number 6:22-26. Often people symbolize receiving that blessing by extending their hands as you would to receive a gift. This is a picture of the blessings we receive from the Lord and it reminds us of His faithful care as we leave to worship and serve in our daily lives.
Sermon Notes - Robert Johnson The Final Word Hebrews 1;1-3 First, The Final Word (1-2) John 1:1 & 14 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father. Michael Card When the Father s Wisdom wanted to communicate His love, He spoke it in one final perfect Word. He spoke the Incarnation and then so was born the Son. His final word was Jesus, He needed no other one. Spoke flesh and blood so He could bleed and make a way Divine. And so was born the baby who would die to make it mine. Second, Who He Is (2) Col. 2:9 In him the whole fullness of deity dwells bodily 2 Cor. 4:6 See glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ. Third, What He Did (3) Titus 2:14 Who gave himself for us to redeem us from all lawlessness and to purify for himself a people for his own possession who are zealous for good works. 1 John 1:7 The blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin John Donne His birth and his death were but one continual act, and his Christmas Day and his Good Friday are but the morning and evening of one and the same day. Finally, What He Is Doing (3) Heb 8:1 Now the point in what we are saying is this: we have such a high priest, one who is seated at the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in heaven Heb. 2:17-18 He had to be made like his brothers in every respect, so that he might become a merciful and faithful high priest in the service of God, to make propitiation for the sins of the people. For because he himself has suffered when tempted, he is able to help those who are being tempted. Heb 4:15 For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin. 1 John 2:1 My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin. But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous. Heb 9:24 For Christ has entered, not into holy places made with hands, which are copies of the true things, but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God on our behalf. Rom 8:34 Who is to condemn? Christ Jesus is the one who died more than that, who was raised who is at the right hand of God, who indeed is interceding for us. Heb 7:25 Consequently, he is able to save to the uttermost those who draw near to God through him, since he always lives to make intercession for them. Matt. 28:18 All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Heb 4:16 Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need. Matt. 25:24-25 the one talent came forward, saying, Master, I knew you to be a hard man so I was afraid, and I went and hid your talent in the ground.
